The Real Caitlyn
Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
This is now my second build guide, and it may not be very good. I like to try my own silly builds in real situations, and often they work very well. This is one of those builds that doesn't make sense, but works for some weird reason. I love helping people out and giving them ideas to use, so MobaFire is my go to place. The laning phase is all about watching your map, and getting CS. So, to do this, you need good mechanics. Treat the mini-map like a car mirror, check it every three seconds, or die. The truth is that with the right habits LoL is just a game of patience and focus. When CS-ing the only thing that really makes you good is getting used to that champions attack animation. Caitlyn's attack animation is quite short, which makes for easy last hitting. Use this to your advantage, and CS from afar, and take step back after each shot to avoid enemy poke. CS can really add up, enough that if you are behind it won't even matter if you out CS the enemy. For the CS war, stay in the bush to use Headshot for more poke if the enemy gets too close, BUT DON'T GET DISTRACTED.
Map awareness is crucial, and can help you win your lane very easily if you are paying attention to your teammates and your enemies. Watch for both allied and enemy incoming ganks and signal your teammates accordingly. When an enemy is ganking, it is good to check their health; Caitlyn is very bursty and can dish out tons of damage with a headshot crit combo. Many times a half health jungle will gank and lose his life, and maybe others' for it. Remember you have barrier, and know how to use it.
Having 650 range is an incredible asset to have in a team fight, learn your range and position yourself behind body blockers such as Malphite, Shen, Garen, Hecarim, Darius, Blitzcrank and of course, Thresh. Q into team fights in the direction of squishy targets, like the AD and AP Carries. Do not waste your ultimate, any good team WILL body block a shot and leave you unable to execute a high priority target. Rather, wait for the enemies to flee, in this chaos many people cannot block a shot without losing their life because of being set off their trail. 650 range provides the ability to execute high priority targets from afar, but beware, many champions such as Leblanc will dash in and burst you down. Watch for people like this and be prepared for them by placing a trap near you and having your E ready. Caitlyn's E is on a fairly long cooldown, and is an amazing escape for an adc, so keep it for situations that it will save you in.
Caitlyn has a very strong late game, but, as good as this sounds, it can be a bad thing. NEVER get too cocky and put yourself out of position, it will probably get you killed, and maybe lose the game for your team. Watch your map, keep an eye out for your team and stay in the right place at all costs.
Know Your Limits.
Knowing your role is a huge thing, playing your role is gigantic, KNOWING THAT IS VITAL! As Caitlyn you need to know your strengths and weaknesses, but i will talk about those later. Caitlyn's long range can and should be used to poke, use this to your advantage, but be wary of your distance from the enemy and their range. Caitlyn is a poke champ, so using your Q and auto attacks is crucial to winning your lane. The idea behind a poke lane is to get your enemies low enough over time that you can easily finish them off with a combo. Keep your distance, keep up the poke, and you are set.
-Being full AD makes you do tons of damage.
-Poking is easy with Caitlyn.
-High team fight damage.
-Long range for easy poking and getting off damage in teamfights.
-On hit slow and speed up.
-No bonus armor or magic resist.
-No Guardian Angel.
One of the most important things about playing bot lane is to know weather you can win a trade or not!!! If you know you won't win a trade or a full engage don't go for it. And if you are about to initiate the enemy think about it if you are stronger or not. Well if you're stronger try to zone/kill the enemy or poke them and give them hard time to farm, but take care of the enemy junglers you might forget to watch the mini map while being concentrated landing a hook/spell!
You might say what is this guy telling me? I know this stuff already. But basically this knowledge whether to fight/trade/poke or to stay safe and keep it low and choose the right moment to comeback will win you bot lane.
One of the reasons Piltover is known as the City of Progress is because it has an extraordinarily low crime rate. This hasn't always been the case; brigands and thieves of all sorts used to find the city-state an ideal mark for plunder, primarily due to the valuable resources it imports to fuel its techmaturgical research. Some even theorize that it would have fallen long ago to the chaos of organized crime if not for Caitlyn, the Sheriff of Piltover. Born the daughter of a wealthy statesman and a pioneering hextech researcher, Caitlyn discovered her natural gift for investigation when, at age 14, her father was assaulted and robbed on his way home. She snuck out of her house that night with her father's rifle and tracked down the muggers from the crime scene. At first, her parents did their best to discourage her from such risky hobbies, but she was incorrigible. Wishing to protect her daughter in the only way she knew how, Caitlyn's mother began outfitting her with techmaturgical devices tailored to her sleuthing needs.
Caitlyn quickly gained notoriety, both because she was single handedly defeating crime in Piltover and also because she soon developed into a ravishing beauty. She never backed down from a case or a challenge, and she was one of the sharpest shots in the city-state. Her services were soon requested by Demacia to help track down a mysterious outlaw who had begun committing high-profile heists. The bandit, who always left a card with an ornate 'C' at the scene of the crime, became Caitlyn's arch-nemesis. To this day, Caitlyn still searches for this cat burglar, and the chase has led her all across Valoran. She has joined the League to hone her skills and gain the influence necessary to track down the only quarry that has managed to evade her.
