Lore

Gangplank was born the son of the dread pirate captain Vincent the Shadow - one of the most wealthy and feared pirates in all of Blue Flame Island. One might think this would have spoiled the boy with a cushioned life of privilege, but the truth is quite the opposite. Growing up in the city of Bilgewater isn't easy; pirates are not known for their compassion, and that most certainly extends to their families. Vincent wanted his son to grow up tough and strong, so he was extremely hard on the young Gangplank. Even as a child, Gangplank was as mean as a snake and is said to have slept with his eyes open. As he grew, the young man rapidly became the most ruthless and feared pirate in all of Bilgewater, and his daddy was never more proud than on the day of his son's eighteenth birthday - when Gangplank stabbed his old man in the back and claimed the famed pirate ship, the Dead Pool, for his own.

The continent of Valoran, however, is a dangerous place for pirates; Gangplank could read the writing on the wall. The den of pirates known as Bilgewater would soon be pulled down by the undertow of Valoranian politics and the Institute of War. It was time for Bilgewater to have their own champion to represent them in the League of Legends, and who better than the fiercest pirate of them all? It is said that Gangplank has enough power and favor to claim the title of the Pirate King back home, but that he is simply biding his time and building his reputation as a champion before he returns to a life of piracy.

Yo ho, blow the man down. Or at least shoot him when his back is turned and steal all his booty.

Introduction

Gangplank is one of the most popular solo top laners and for good reason. His W allows for great sustain in lane. He can succure a kill with either his q, ulti or his damage over time from his e or his passive. You can either build him pure crit and lifesteal or ad off tank. Here I have both of these choices and how I build him in game.

TankPlank

This build is purely late game. This build is extremely hard to deal with early game, but if you keep your CS up and get your avarice blade you'll have plenty of gold to build what you need.

CritPlank

This build is my favorite way to build Gangplank. It is great for that early game lead and holding the mid game lead. It doesn't truly fall off late game, but you aren't very tanki, so you'll need to rely on your lifesteal to survive.

Items

TankPlank
These items will give you amazing sustain in lane and team fights and allow you to be the last survivor to pick up the remaining kills.

Critplank
These items will allow you to secure kills in lane and in team fights in literally seconds. With this build games shouldn't last any longer then 20 minutes. You will get fed and you will pwn. Trust me with this build you will be able to afford the end game trinity force. You don't really need it, but who cares your fed. XD

*Avarice Blade is strictly for the gold/sec and the crit chance. The seventh item in each build will replacey our avarice blade at the end of your build.

Masteries

TankPlank
You wanna build it 13/13 because you still need that early poke and the extra defence, health and health reg will help with your sustain
Crit Plank
Your gonna wanna put the majority of your points in offense do to that fact that this is an offensive build. Put the remainder in defense just cause its nice to have.

Summoner Spells

TankPlank
Your gonna need exhaust to secure kills because you don't have much damage out put. Your building to stay alive not to do damage, so exhaust is there for that extra help.
CritPlank
Do to the fact that you are dishing out so much damage over time with your E, passive and executioner's calling might as well just add to it to secure kills in lane.

Flash should always be taken for a quick escape or initiate.

Closing

Try out these to builds. These should be the only builds on Gangplank that should see the light of day. Some items could be substituted but is not recommended. See you on the fields of justice and above all have fun.
