Introduction

This is the way I like to play gangplank. I go for early farm, and I am defensive but if they push I can take them out. It's best to lane with a tank or support so they can give you farm and heal you so you don't have to waste time/mana.

Runes

This is just what I like, there are many other viable options

Masteries

The only thing that I would allow to be changed is swapping awareness for expanded mind.

Items

Start out with a Meki Pendant so you have more mana to farm. Parrrley is very useful for farming as it gives GP range and extra gold. Go back pretty soon for a tear of the goddess and Avarice blade and teleport back and work on getting that extra mana while you farm. Then go for a zeal. I didn't get boots because you shouldn't be running too far past your turret, you are just farming at this point. Ionian boots give nice cooldown and you don't need anything that the other boots have to offer, since Remove Scurvy makes mercury treads obsolete and Raise Morale makes you faster. After the boots go for a Sheen into a Trinity Force.

Trinity Force is an item made for gangplank. You use every part of it for something, and using an ability gives you a fake-crit no matter what.

Once you get a B.F. Sword you can start harassing pretty hard. Then Zeal for extra crit/speed. Then Inifinity Edge for that awesome crit/damage boost. Phantom Dancer is another one of those "made for gangplank" items, and at this point it should be gg. If not, get more damage from Manamune and sell your avarice blade for some lifesteal/crit from Executioner's Calling

Summoner Spells

I get Teleport and Flash so I can farm more and if the enemy is close to death a quick flash parrrley to take him out. Also Flash is great for escaping.

Skill Use

Use Parrrley to farm exclusively in the beginning. Try not to waste your Parrrley on enemy champions, unless they're getting too aggressive. You need to be very good at last hitting with Parrrley for this build to work, so keep in mind that if this is your first time playing GP, you might have a difficult time using this build since it takes a while to actually be a participating member of your team.

Try not to use your heal so much since it wastes mana, but if you're going to die obviously use it.

Cannon Barrage makes you a very useful team player. Keep an eye on the map, look for heroes with no health and take them out. Also use this to cut people off or right on them during a team fight. This skill does more damage than you think.

Summary

This is my favorite build for gangplank since it's an investment build. If done right, you will dominate the field and everyone will fear your crit Parrrleys
