This is build is centered around Garen being able to absorb a lot of punishment while dishing out decent damage. This is not for people that play Garen as a carry dps, "Which I think is a far inferior way to play him, but thats besides the point."

Through this build you will see that I don't get any health regen items. I find that stacking health and using his passive tends to be enough to keep me in the lane early game. One other important thing to do is make it a habit to grab a health pot every time you run back to buy more items.

ITEMS EXPLAINED
I first get the Dorans Blade with a health pot simply because the health bonus is nice on the Dorans Blade and the small vamp with the damage bonus on it are just nice perks for early game. It is interchangeable with Dorans Shield, I just prefer this item.

Next I go for the Ninja Tabbi, I never have had to go back to buy before I could one shot this item. A lot of people use Boots of Swiftness but the Ninja Tabbi coupled with my dodge mastery is very nice for improved move speed as well as the defense bonus you get from the armor. I find them to be superior boots.

The main thing this build revolves around is the two Sunfire Capes. This item is the backbone of the support tank build. When you run into a fight and pop Judgment with the two Sunfire Capes pulsing damage, nobody will want to be next to you. Once you have both of these you will be able to initiate team fights and live to tell the tail nearly every time. Timing your courage well will break their teams moral as they put five people on you and fail to bring your health down.

Next I get the Frozen Mallet to keep my hit point pool going up and also to add snare for utility. It makes it a lot easier for the team to gank when you are adding the slow.

After Frozen Mallet I always get Atmas. It is a great item for some extra damage with your hit point pool and still is adding to your armor. I follow this up with Blood Thirster 90 percent of the time, but if i find that my team is doing good enough damage without mine going up then I will get a Warmogs or Banshee Viel depending on how many casters they have.
