Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
This is my first guide I have written on mobafire and hopefully not my last. I have been playing Garen for a while now and noticed that my build is a little bit different than all of the guides on this site so I decided to make one. I can't count how many times I've gotten legendary using this build. I hope it helps you out.
1. Extrememly strong early and mid game
2. Can escape using Judgement and Decisive Strike
3. Great Survivability with Courage
4. Good chaser
5. Good kill stealer with Demacian Justice (If you are into that thing)
1. No stun or slow
Decisive Strike (Q)-
This is a great skill for initiating fights. It gives you a speed boost which is great for catching up to a fleeing enemy and it is also a great escape mechanism for fleeing from the enemy. If you use this ability and attack a turret it will use its bonus damage so make sure to use it against turrets.
This skill is really good for tanking towers and at late game great for getting your armor and magic resistance up. Make sure to keep killing creeps to get the stacks up.
This ability by far does the most damage. At low levels this attack will get your enemys under half health by landing all of its hits. It also reduces the durations of slows by 50% according to the new patch. With your sunfire capes you will be doing massives amounts of damage in team fights.
Your ulti is great for finishing off enemies. Since it does more damage the less health they have you want to use it when the enemy champion is around 30% health. You can also cast your ulti when using judgement, so if they are getting out of range use it to finish him off before he gets away.
Personally I prefer Exhaust and Ignite and i would say the second best set up is Flash and Ignite which gives a little more survivablity being able to blink through walls.
This is one of the most important stages of the game for Garen. Since judgement does so much damage at a low level you should be able to gets a few kills early on by using Decisive Stike - Exhaust - Judgement - Ignite. The more kills you get the faster you will get your items and the higher level you will be compared to the people you are laning against. Don't be afraid to run to mid and gank using the same order of attacks. In early game you also need to decide which boots to get. You can get either Mercury treads if the other team has a lot of stuns and slows, but if they don't get yourself a pair of Boots of Swiftness.
By this time you should have your boots, The Brutalizer and a Giant's Belt. You want to start ganking and pushing lanes at this time. If there is just one enemy champion by himself and you know where at least 3 of the other enemys are then go for the kill. On the other hand if you see that they are pushing top and mid and you are bot push the hell out of it. If you get into team fights Decisive Strike - Courage - Judgement - Decisive Strike - Ulti. If anyone is getting away use Exhaust and Ignite on them. Use your Ulti on anyone when they are about 25% as a tank and up to 50% as a low hp caster or dps. At this point in the game you also have to choose a Force of Nature or a Spirit Visage. If you are making a lot of money either through farming or getting champion kills go for the FoN, if not the Spirit Visage will do just fine.
Use the same combo that you were using mid game for fights. By this time you should have two Sunfire Capes and should be doing massive amounts of AoE damage between them and judgement. If you are either being targeted a lot or if you are the main tank on your team(not suggested) you should get Guardian Angel. If you are the last person being targeted in every battle getting yourself an Atma's Impaler is a good way to increase your damage and armor(about 64 damage). Remeber to use Decisive Strike on towers to do extra damage. Grab a Baron kill with your team score an ace and win the game.
