So , this is mainly a buff to Garen , and Im also replacing the Movement speed Quints with Flat HP since his movespeed was buffed. If you still like the movespeed because it works well with him by all means keep them.
This is the guide on how I play Garen , The Might of Demacia. In this guide you can farm easily
with Judgement/Sunfire Cape to hel get some of the more expensive items so if your not a great last hitter you might want to try to work on that.
This is also my first serious build , constructive criticism appreciated.
Pros / Cons
High Damage with Judgement and Decisive Strike
Abilities only rely on cool downs.
Great Execution Ult , especially good against high hp enemies.
Can be countered easily with disables , you might consider using Cleanse.
Greater Mark of Desolation - Obviously , just Armor Pen.
Greater Seal of Malice - Crit chance to boost your Judgement some early game before you have items for it.
Greater Glyph of Focus - Great for Garen since he relies on only cool downs.
Greater Quintessence of Swiftness - This is controversial , can be replaced with Armor Pen , Flat HP , or Cool down Reduction(CDR). I like movement speed just to catch up with your Judgement early game even though you have boots , I like to have it. Also helps if your Q is on cooldown.
21 8 1 masteries taking one point in Utility for Improved Ghost. I like to have it just to improve my summoner spells , as I did with Exhaust.
Decisive Strike - Garen's next attack strikes a vital area of his foe, dealing bonus damage and silencing them.
Garen gains 15/20/25/30/35% Movement Speed for 3 seconds. His next melee attack deals 30/45/60/75/90 (+) physical damage and silences his target for 2.5
This skill is probably what best compensates your killing , but is NOT your main damage. This speed boost and silence gets you in your opponents' face , silences so they cant fight back , AND has an very good AD scale so its damage is great to.
Courage - Garen's kills increase his armor and magic resistance. He may also activate this ability to give himself a damage reducing shield.
Passive: Garen's armor and magic resist are permanently increased by 0.5 every time he kills an enemy unit. This bonus is maxed at 5/10/15/20/25.
Active: Garen places a defensive shield on himself for the next 3 seconds, decreasing all damage taken by 10/15/20/25/30%.
I think this skill is good if your needed to offtank , but in this guide your focusing on pure DPS and I guess it helps in turret diving , but I dont level it up until later so you have a point in it , but your focusing on maxing everything else first. but that passive drives you to farm more.
Judgment - Garen performs a dance of death with his sword, dealing damage around him for 3 seconds, and reducing the duration of slows by 50%. Garen removes any slow effects on him at the start of the dance.
Garen rapidly spins his sword around his body for 3 seconds, reducing the duration of slows by 50% and dealing 60/100/140/180/220 (+) physical damage to nearby enemies every second. Garen removes any slow effects on him when casting Judgment.
The bonus damage is further increased by Garen's critical strike chance. Damage to minions is reduced by 50%.
This is your bread and butter skill. Here are some great things about Judgement!
One : Dmg is EXTREMELY high
Two : "Rapidly spins his sword around his body for 3 seconds" lolepic? who doesn't like to Spin to Win!
Three : The Trademark yel "DEMACIA"
Four : If you type /d while spinning and dont move , your in for a long , dizzy ride. ( It doesnt do damage once the normal duration is done , you can see by the yellow glow fade off )
Five : Scales of Crit so makes your Atmas' and Youmuu's that much more effective. At the end of the guide it should do about 220(+110) or something around that and those enemies will drop like nothing.
Demacian Justice - Garen calls upon the might of Demacia to deal a finishing blow to an enemy champion that deals damage based upon how much life his target has missing.
Garen calls upon the might of Demacia to attempt to execute an enemy champion, dealing 175/350/525 magic damage plus 1 damage for every 3.5/3/2.5 health they are missing.
Garens ultimate. After seeing how awesome Garen is , you know his ult is going to be 10 times better then you expected. This is an amazing finisher as it deals extra damage to how much hp the target is missing. Say you need to finish off that enemy who decided to stack warmogs armor ( I've seen it before , and boy did they hate me after that match was over ) and has , lets say 30% hp after you burst , you might be able to finish them off there , and if not? SPIN!!!!
You really have to farm when using this guide as it cost alot. I usually dont get my Frozen Mallet unless its a very long game or Im super fed. Farming really easy with Sunfire and Judgement which is why I try to rush it.
Tip!: Dont overextend to much farming when there enemies MIA , you might get ganked.
So getting kills with Garen is extremely easy. Against Melee Champions , I try to get behind them if possible , then initiate with Decisive Strike. If they have a dash or blink , you have to get the silence down before they get away , then start Spinning. Once below about 20 percent hp or so use your ultimate and if they're still alive (unlikely) just use your combo again. Against ranged champs I do the same to open up but exhaust to make sure they cant get to far or if its someone like Ashe or Caitlyn , they might do some damage , but not with Exhaust!
If necessary use Ghost or Exaust to get kills. Never forget to scream DEMACIA!!!!!!!
Why laning partners are important.
Lets just think about this. Before Frozen Mallet ( which I dont prioritize as you dont need the slow to much with your high movement speed ) you have no CC other then exhaust. If you lane with someone like Morde who buys no Rylais or Mallet to slow , it will be difficult to keep people in your whole spin duration , which might guarantee a kill. BUT! If you lane with your sister , Lux , for example and she hits offs the double snare? You dont want to be on the other side of that combo! Even with someone like Morgana who might be able to hit off her ult in teamfights your almost positive to get a kill , if not more. But back to laning , try to get someone with a fear , major slow ( Example , MFs slow wont help much but Nasus' slow will help alot which is why I put major slow ) stun or snare.
Tip!: Laning Phase is where you can get most fed , since your damage is so high early , so this section of the guide is extremely important.
