Laning Phase

Harass the enemy at Level 1 with your Q. Be careful not to go too deep. This is very useful because Garen's Q has massive damage even early in the game and the enemy would also be silenced unable to use any spell to return the hit. Once you get your E, you can harass them even more with Q - E combo. Play smart though, not all champion can be harassed easily by Garen. Harassing the enemy would prevent them from taking CS effectively, therefore giving you the upper hand.

In the first part of the game refrain from using your E to clear out minions. First, because your E wont be that powerful and you'll in the end miss a lot of CS and your lane would push.

Once you got your ultimate, harass the enemy even more often with your Q-E Combo. You can also start use E to clear out minions. Once the enemy is backed up at their turrets and your health is full enough, you can safely Dive and finish him off with your Ult. BE CAREFUL OF GANKS. Also! if it were against Tryndamere or Kayle, unless they are not level 6 yet, it would be stupid to dive them.

If you are dominating the laning phase it would be easy for you, you'll be tanky enough when you are entering the team fight phase of the game.

Team Fight

You should've got Spirit Visage and some item with armor in team fight, if not, you wont be that useful in team fight, hone your CS skill!...

But if you already got them, you are a viable tank. Protect your ADC and be the first one to enter the fight. Be smart and don't initiate when your team mates doesn't want to. Once your health is low, try to flee, but not too early. If your health is full and your team wants to push, be the bigger person to tank the turret if there are no minions.

If you play smart, and you build your items right, you will have a lot of sustain. Not killing you would mean you can finish the rest of the enemy with your E, Q and R and 200+ AD. Killing you would mean they use all their skill to kill you letting your ADC friend to finish them off. Once I did a Quadra Kill because the enemy doesn't want to kill me first because I was tanky as hell and they think my AD is small. You would have massive damage also, able to 1v1 the enemy member. Don't be too cocky though, which would kill you.
