Cinderhulk scales far better into the late game than Warrior, and he scales with health do to his passive. Sure it only works out of combat, but the ability to leave a fight for a few seconds and come out with a lot more health is really good.

And yes, he is a tank. More of a bruiser, but primarily a tank. He has plenty of things that help him scale well as a tank compared to a lot of other champions, and with only BC he can still deal plenty of damage. If you disagree, go ahead and build more damage. Remember that he's prone to getting kited if you're not beefy enough which is why you build tank. But thanks for the input.

Really depends on the team comp which determines how r u to build garen, but usually my core early game is Warriors enchanment, sunfire, cleaver then the other slots are to build around the enemy team. I wouldnt always go 1 damage item garen in lane or jungle unless ur either losing in trades and cant get enough gold or simply behind.

You're gonna wanna update this now with the new black cleaver, it's really strong on garen now and rage is great for ganking and chasing. Full build example #1 is the best build for jungle garen.

The thing I don't understand is why people get cinder hulk over warriors when sun fire Cape is way better for garen since he scales better with armour due to his w. Also why build visage or warmogs when his passive is only good outside of combat no point healing outside of combat cause that's not what garens is meant for. Garen is a anti assassin champ, therefore I would suggest getting warriors and sun fire early, then cleaver then randuins, maw of malmortius and boots of ur choice. U could always replace maw with last whisper. That's my jungle garen build which doesn't differ from my armour pen garen for top except of jg item I get last whisper and or maw.

Do not go flat health items as ur ignoring his passive and making him more prone to %hp based damage hence he won't live long as he should. Also saying that he is tank is the typical mistake which most ignoramus say, his silence is only good for one target, proper tanks have aoe cc which always then to disrupt peel and break up enemy formations that's what makes them tanks. Garens role is meant to be the teams secondary damage source as well as protecting the teams carries from assassins (bruiser) that's what his kit is meant for. Other than that its a decent guide.

Actually, every pro which builded garen did build Warmog's Armor and Atma's Impaler, so yeah...

Now that Atma's is out, Warmog's is still strong because of the synergy with Garen's passive and W.

But because Atma's is out, something else has to fill the spot. The perfect item seems to be either Maw of Malmortius or Warrior. Warrior is especially interesting as it grants armor penetration and that very early.

For the rest of the items, it should be obvious that you need Randuin's Omen, Warmog's Armor and Spirit Visage. Spirit Visage could be replaced by Ohmwrecker if you don't need the MR.

I just have to say despite the criticism you have recieved. I have just tried this guide out and won on my first try. I didnt build any damage until later in the game but even before that I was doing considerable damage possibly because of the crit chance in my runes. Also the execute ult allowed for some easy kills. Anyway thanks for showing people you can spin to win from the jungle.

Thank you for your criticism, sorry I haven't updated the guide. I'm gonna try a few games with your setup and update the guide with some of your items if they work well. Again it's my first guide, so I welcome all kinds of feedback.

Well I'm going to start from the good things about your guide and move on to the problems that I have with it.

I really like that you pointed out that jungling on Garen is not a good idea in ranked, but I think you should use bigger letters right there and perhaps red color to make that part stand out even more. Also I believe that reminding people to buy wards and that warding is not just the supports job.

Now on to the problems that I have with this guide/build.
The first problem that I have immediately upon looking at your build is it has no damage throughout the game.
While you might argue that you are going for a tank Garen build you still need some damage preferably early game damage (seeing as how prevalent the early game junglers are atm), because as you mentioned yourself Garen doesn't have any CC aside from a silence which requires you to be in melee range to apply it, so you can't go full tank unless you want to be ignored by the enemy team.

My second problem is your item choices. (The 1st problem was your build concept).

Spirit of The Ancient Golem

Sunfire Cape

Warmog's Armor

Avarice Blade and Atma's Impaler

Boots of Swiftness

My third, but a very minor problem is that you suggest taking Courage as second skill on Garen which is a bad idea for a few reasons:
1)If you do take Courage at level 2 and you get invaded you will get destroyed by almost every jungler in the game.

2)It doesn't help you jungle. In fact by taking Courage at level 2 you are going to make your jungle clear much worse than it should be.

My fourth problem is
Runes and Masteries

And these are my suggestions on how to strengthen your early game while keeping the theme of tankiness going into mid and late game:

Runes

Masteries

Last, but not least I would suggest going for one of these items as your second item after completing Spirit of the Elder Lizard. The Brutalizer or Hexdrinker fallowed by tanky items should ensure that you will not get ignored in teamfights.

Hope this helps.

P.s. In your Alternative item section you wrote AP Heavy Team where you meant to write AD heavy team.

Thanks for the reply! I plan on soon adding a section for both masteries and runes, and I'll take out some of the skill links.

What makes you think jungle Garen works?

You do not have to link every skill to the database ( using ), it actually messes up the guide (seriously). Other than that, your guide is quite okay but what makes a guide outstanding is the codings too, add more to your guide and it would be great.
