The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
- AD Garen : You will be the offtank of your team and probably who carries it.
- Tank Garen : You will be just impossible to kill and will continue hurting them a lot.
Here are some general tips to use whith Garen:
- Harass the enemy in the early game and destroy their turrent as soon as possible
- Don't worry about losing health because you have your amazing passive.
- Ask for a ranged ally in your lane. ( Ashe is perfect )
- Don't think you will do multikills because your most damage is from Judgment. ( 3 seconds only)
- Play smart and as you normally play, don't think you will be the best LoL player with that guide.
Pros / Cons
• Strong all parts of the game
• Hard to die
• Doesn't use mana
• Good farmer
• Abilities require the correct time to active.
• Difficult to scape from ganks.
• Need early game kills to be good.
The 9 points in defense help you in the early game.
Utility masteries aren't needed because Garen doesn't uses mana and this is the most important thing to get utility masteries.
The Greater Quintessence of Attack Damage is very good because your abilities multiply your attack and you become very strong with an extra AD in the early game. I prefer AD than Armor Penetration because of the abilities that multiply your attack.
The Greater Mark of Attack Damage works in the same way as the Greater Quintessence of Attack Damage
The Greater Seal of Armor gives you a flat amount of armor that helps you a lot in the early game, it is very good because stack with your Courage's passive.
The Greater Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist gives you magic resist as you upon leves, it is very good because stack with your Courage's passive.
Exhaust: I like this spell very much because you will be much better than your enemy during 2.5 seconds. When you are using Summoner's Wrath it becomes stronger because the affected enemy loses Armor and MR.
Flash: It's always a good spell defensively and offensively because it makes your mobility better and you can jump walls.
Heal: One good spell for tanks that can save you from diyng and help in kills.
Ignite: It's a good spell because get kills that you wouldn't get and reduces the target healing done. Very important vs Dr. Mundo, Warwick and Olaf because they have an amazing healing.
Ghost: It's good to use it to keep your enemy inside your Judgment range.
Clarity: Please don't ask why it isn't viable!!!
Clairvoyance: You don't have ranged abilities, it's better to ward the map.
Cleanse: You already have Decisive Strike to get out of slows and you have a lot of HP, the Mercury's Treads substitute it well and the 30% crownd control from Courage.
Revive: Terrible spell for most of the LoL champions.
Promote: You already farm really well and are an excellent pusher.
Surge: You don't need AP and your DPS comes from Judgment, not from Attack Speed
Smite: You aren't jungling!!!!
Teleport: You have one awesomeone Helth Regen with Perseverance and won't need to return to your base very frequently.
Skill Sequence & ExplanitionDemacian Justice> Judgment> Decisive Strike> Courage
Perseverance:If Garen has not taken damage from neutral monsters, enemy champions or turrets in the last 9 seconds, he will regenerate 0.5% of his maximum health per second.
• If you can damage your enemy and be damaged for the same amount it's ok because you have an amazing passive and he doesn't.
Decisive Strike: Garen removes all slows on him and gains 35% movement speed for 1.5 / 2.25 / 3 / 3.75 / 4.5 seconds. His next melee attack within 4.5 seconds will deal 30 / 55 / 80 / 105 / 130 (+1.4 per attack damage) physical damage and silence his target for 2.5 seconds. This attack can critically strike.
• Use it to be certain you will get one more minion.
• Try to silence the enemy team's AP champion.
Courage: (Passive): Garen's armor and magic resistance are permanently increased by 20%.(Active): Garen places a defensive shield on himself, decreasing all damage taken by 30% and reducing the duration of crowd control by 30% for 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 seconds.
• Stacking Armor or MR combines very well with the passive effect.
• If the enemy has a lot of CC, use it when running.
Judgment: Garen rapidly spins his sword around his body for 3 seconds dealing 20 / 45 / 70 / 95 / 120 (+0.7 / 0.8 / 0.9 / 1.0/ 1.1 total Attack Damage) physical damage to nearby enemies every half second. Garen can deactivate Judgement early by activating the ability again after 0.5 seconds. Garen cannot use Decisive Strike or Demacian Justice while Judgement is in effect. Damage to minions and neutral monsters is reduced by 25%. Garen ignores unit collision while spinning, but takes a 20% movement speed penalty when passing through minions.
• This is your DPS abilitie that can kill enemies quickly.
• Use as a escape mechanism because you ignores unit collision.
Demacian Justice: Garen brings down Demacian Justice on his opponent, dealing 175 / 350 / 525 magic damage plus 1 additional damage per 3.5 / 3 / 2.5 health his opponent is missing.
• Only use to kill because of the long cooldown.
• if you can attack once and use it or use it and attack once do the first opition because it becomes strongly when your enemy has less health.
Starting & Early Game Items
Starting ItemsChoose one of this items to start the game.
Good starting item for Garen because you will have more than 750 HP in level 1 and your passive will be better. (More HP, better passive)
For agressive palyers and good farmers because it isn't part of your future build.
+ 3 I don't recomend it because with your passive, HP pots aren't needed.
I prefer Ruby Crystal because it will be part of the build.
First RecallTry to have 2,5k in your first recall.
or Buy one of this boots depending on the enemy team: AP Enemy Team = Mercury's Treads and AD Enemy Team = Ninja Tabi
With this item the enemy will have troubles with you.
Garen only needs AD and HP, so this is one perfect item for him because it can be the item that provides more AD in the game, if you are a good player. Try to get a lot of kills and assists and please don't die.
This item provides a lot of health and it's very good in Garen
Provides a lot of AD, 25% crit chance and crits of 250%. Remenber that Decisive Strike and Judgment can crit.
This item provides a lot of health and its very good in garen
Finishing it ends with your problems with AD carries, stacks well with Courage.
Finishing it ends with your problems with AP champions, stacks well with Courage.
Finishing the Build
There are a lot of good items to use in garen to finish the build.
Offensive ItemsUse this items if you want to be agressive.
If fully stacked provides 100 AD (it is relevant) and life steal (it isn't relevant). (I strongly recommend it)
Very good if the enemy is stacking armor.
Good because gives a lot of AD but you will never use the passive.
Deffensive ItemsUse this items if you want to be more tanky.
Health is never too much and 2 Warmog's Armor can stack really well with Perseverance and Force of Nature. (I strongly recommend it)
Gives a lot of HP and a small amount of AD but gives you a slow that can help a lot.
HP, armor and a good passive for team fights.
Balanced ItemsUse this items if you want to be strong hurting and don't want to be hurted a lot.
Good balnced item prncipally because of the improved Sheen's passive. With 400 AD, one attack after one abilitie will deal 1000 damage. (I strongly recommend it)
Good if there are one Karthus, Veigar or another AP with an OP ult in the enemy team.
You need to remember this to play well with Garen:
• Be an offtank because you need to be close to deal damage.
• Don't basic attack the enemy because you won't have a good Attack Speed.
• Initiate one combat with Decisive Strike then active judgmente and Courage and finalize the enemy with Demacian Justice.
• Use Decisive Strike to quicly run in the map.
