What you want to do is fight normally til level 3 and then you need to farm minions for your courage til you max it out due to the factor that this is ur biggest defensive weapon. I'm not saying kill just minions i'm saying power it up gradually. Your first ability is the biggest make squishies mad ability due to its silience add on and mass damage.
If you follow the skill sequence you should be well balance and able to fight and escape when jumped. His first is a speed-up ablility and this third is a remove all slows on you at the time ability. His second is really interesting you only want to pop this when you know everyone on the other team is targeting you so you can make them use all their abilities to kill you and not your teammates.
Garen has a problem with tanks every now and then due to the nature of his build which is why this build focuses in armor pentetration. this allows you to continue his build at a regular pace. The defense and magic resist part is a stregth because your not a tank the extra damage kept from being substain from these abilities helps you be able to dish out some more dmage and stay in the fight longer.
all these items help garen in a individual way The shield and warmog's both provide health regen and health. Altma' impaler helps the damage aspect of garen while providing defense for melee annoyances. Maw of malmortious does three things it offers help against ability powered champion due to the shield and magic resist and it offers damage and the more your enemy does damage the more attack you gain. the two final items are your choice due to the fact of who your going against for instance your going aqainst tanks i recomend last whisper, mages force of nature, super melee's aka yii and tryndemere thornmail its all based on who your going against.
Your materies consist of damage and defense the damage aspect is to get by armor and to thrive against mages and people with lower health. now the defense part is to make up with the fact your not a tank your a mobile infantry unit.
Don't get me wrong this build can take some damage but the objective in this build is to dish damage and survive as long as need be. there is very few champion that can stop garens most of them are teemo, heimdinger, Graves late game if he has been fed. But teemo is easy to get around let your first ability silence him and he just another squishy for you.
Pros / Cons
the pros of garen are passive health regen which allows you to stay in battle long periods of time. his first ability is a silence. his third removes all slow efeects on him when activated. his second negates a certain percentage of damage while active. His cons are he is build for one vs one in most cases. if he cant get enough minion kills in his second ability to keep him moving long periods of time.
How each ability works
Skill Decisive Strike
Deals (on Lv 5) 90 Physical Damage (+150% Damage per AD)Silences afterwards for 2.5 secs and gives you a speed boost (35%)
Gives you passive Magic Resist and Armor,(on Lv 5) 25 Magic Res. and Armor
Active reduces all damage for 36% (on Lv 5) for 3 seconds.
Deals (on Lv 5) 220 Physical Damage (+1.2 Damage per Bonus AD), removes on spellcast all slows, and reduces their duration while casted for 50%. Duration is 3 seconds.
Besides Judgement can crit, but it will just deal the Bonus Damage of Judgement, if critted a sword Icon will appear over the unit.
Skill Demacian Justice [Ultimate]
Deals (on Lv 3] 525 Magic Damage + 1 Damage for each 2.5 Health the target is missing.
Trivia: Demacian Justice CAN be cast while using Judgement but it will deal damage afterwards
You need to stay in sight of the Enemy Champion if you want to use Demacian Justice.
His Q silences and damages and speeds him up. Whatever you're trying to do from hit an enemy to run away Q helps.
His W works even if you can't time the skill well, applying a passive bonus.
E lasts 3 seconds and it's pretty obvious you should move toward enemies while using it. But even if you use it to escape, you can't be effectively slowed, so it works no matter how badly you use it.
Only R isn't even remotely tricky. If you aim for 30% health, you're spot on. Either way you get good damage.
And his passive heals players that are too dumb to attack
Creeping / Jungling
garen can only jungle with smite which i dont recommend you jungle with him due to this garen is a straight foward champion he only has one objective that to beat you in the face.
