Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
My thoughts on GP after the rework
Gangplank has always been a pretty straight forward champ. Due to meta changes, there hasn't really been a solid spot for GP in the top lane for a long time. His Parrrley was his only real damage dealing ability, and his E was hella boring and just plain sucked. His old passive was decent but activating E gave you a **** damage boost and didn't allow you to stack grog soaked blade anymore. After playing more then 50 games in a row with the new GP rework, I have to say, the mechanics with his passive and Barrel placement overall just make him so much more fun to play. Whether you're setting up barrels in a bush to ambush an unsuspecting enemy or trading in lane with your new passive or dropping your ult on someones head to hit that 300% true damage upgrade, the new GP offers a lot of outplay strategies, zoning capability, and of course Tons of damage.
About the build
I'm not going to go to in depth about this build but I will tell you what it's main purpose is and why I choose these runes and masteries. The first thing about this build is that you are trying to obtain 100% crit chance. To do this I get 10% crit chance from runes, 10% from triforce, 60% from the IE's and 20% from shiv. Keep in mind also even though having 100% crit is really nice and can really ruin someone's day you are a glass cannon with this build, it really works best when you get the drop on your enemy first or catch them by surprise with you're barrels when you are out of harms way and can shoot one with your Q and have the one furthest away on the chain deal the damage. For the glyphs and 1 quint you get 10% CDR plus 5% from masteries giving you 15% flat CDR at lvl 1 starting the game, this really helps with Q farming minions to get those silver serpents and last hits. If you go with boots of lucidity you will have a total of 30% cdr. With this build you will need to farm quite a bit as safely as you can. For yellows HP per lvl gives your oranges a little bit bigger heal since you get a flat amount + 15% of your missing health, You can still take flat armor is you choose to. Finally to answer the main question people will be asking about this build, why 3 IE's? isn't there another item that would benefit you more? Arguable yes, there very well could be another item that might suit your needs better for the situation, but that isn't what this build focus's on. The more AD you obtain the harder your crits hit, the more TRUE Damage your passive does, and the more damage your barrels will do. Could you replace triforce with a Last whisper? Sure you could replace it with that, but True damage isn't effected by armor, and your barrels already shred 60% armor at rank 5, this basically means that if the enemy is not a tank, they are getting close to one shot by 1 Q'd barrel, if they are not dead AA them and the passive will finish them off.
