Introduction

Hello I'm Chrome and this is my first build, which I'm really just doing because I enjoy playing Graves.

So now I understand why a gravedigger champion named Yorick was summoned to the League quite a long time ago. He has a lot of work ahead of him, as the bodies begin to pile up and the killstreaks grow. Graves - the newest addition to the League - is a ranged AD carry, whose beefiness and survivability permits a close encounter with his victims and hence outrageously high burst damage output. He almost seems like the love-child of a steamy night between Caitlyn and Garen (no - not as formidable as the Cho-Gath x Master Yi obscenity "Yi'Gath"). And then there's his smoke screen. My god I'm in love with that skill.

Pros / Cons

Pros

- Survivability (tankiness, look at his passive)
- Escapability (smoke screen/quickdraw)
- High burst damage
- AoE slow/vision impairment (good for ganking)
- AoE ult
- Good DPS
- Consistent from early through to late game

Cons

- Survivability is item-dependent
- Expensive build (lucky Graves can farm well)
- Long cooldowns
- Requires positioning
- Skillshot skills (W and R)
- Large nerf target (and also a target in team fights)

Runes

Flat ArP marks.

Flat Armour Seals.

CDR/lvl Glyphs.

26 HP Quintessences.

I use this runeset so that Grave's early game consists of killing and not dying. The celerity glyphs help with those pesky CD's late game, so that you aren't relying on auto attacks and you can frequently use those awesome skills.

Masteries

21/0/9

The runes and items cover survivability, allowing for a focus on the offensive tree.

I take the exhaust point, along with critical chance. 4 points in AttkSpeed, with 3 on CDR, 3 in ArmourPierce and then the big three - AttkDamage, CritDamage and Havoc.

In the Utility tree i take 4 points in EXP and 1 in BuffDuration (after 3 in GoodHands), so that blue buff lasts longer.

Summoner Spells

Exhaust - Cripple those evasive or aggressive champs.

Flash - Escape or gank, which, when followed with smoke screen and/or quickdraw, seals the deal.

Skill Sequence

Upgrade Buckshot first. Primary damage skill. Useful for farming large waves. First priority non-ult skill, and advised if seeking first blood.

Upgrade Smoke Screen one point (level 2), and then upgrade Quickdraw one point (level 3).

From then on skill priority is this:

Collateral Damage > Buckshot > Quickdraw > Smokescreen

The reason I get Smoke Screen level 2 and not Quickdraw is that it's slow and vision impairment is of more use in getting those early level kills than a low level attack speed increase from one point in Quickdraw.

Combo

With Graves, you want to get close to your enemy to maximise the damage output of Buckshot. I often initiate with Smoke Screen in 1v1, or allow my initator to initiate in a 2v1 or 2v2 and then use the Smoke Screen's vision impairment to whittle down speed and synchronisation between the two paired opponents.

Quickdraw into the slowed champs and let them have it with you auto-attacks, reducind Quickdraw's CD to the point that you can use it again to close distance and finish them off with a buckshot.

If their amount of HP does not permit this, snipe them with the Collateral Damage, sneding damage to the champs/minions behind the target also and likely securing a double kill (of course depending on circumstances and your positioning).
