Introduction
Hey there everyone! My name is LumpfKoz, and I'm a gold Vel'Koz main! I have over 100 games played on Vel'Koz in ranked this season alone, a win rate of 59% and a KDA of 3.56 ( http://na.op.gg/summoner/userName=LumpfKoz ).
I made this guide so I can help people who want to main Vel'Koz, but don't know where to go for help! In this guide I'll tell you about the optimal summoner spells, build, abilities to max, masteries, and runes.
Many ask the question, "which summoner spells are optimal for Vel'Koz?"
Well I'm here to tell you my thoughts. I believe that the optimal summoner spells for Vel'Kzo are Barrier and Flash. Flash because it allows you to escape from a sticky situation, and Barrier because it allows for some extra defense considering that he is such a squishy champion.
Many people ask me, why not take ignite? and the reason that is, is because Vel'Koz has a kit designed to stay back and poke people, so he will rarely be close enough to use ignite.

Next I would like to discuss the skill sequence that I personally like to use. I personally max W first since it would maximize Vel'Koz's damage since you are able to use that ability so often. After that I max Q because his Q also does a great deal of damage and is a good ability for poking.
Although I'm only allowed to put one rune page at the top of this guide, I wish I could put more. I have 5 Rune Pages that I use for different matchups for Vel' Koz. The first Rune Page I use is the one at the top of this guide. I use this one usually when I'm against a mid laner that does a lot of damage and is able to get hits on Vel'Koz often, such as LeBlanc.
My second/third Rune Page(s):
9x Greater Magic Penetration Marks
9x Greater Armor Seals
9x Greater CDR Glyphs / 9x Greater Glyph of Ability Power Per Level
3x Greater AP Quints
These Rune Pages are used into AD Mid Laners, or a heavily AD team for the extra armor, and depending on their comp, if you need CDR or AP Glyphs.
My fourth/fifth Rune Page(s):
9x Greater Magic Penetration Marks
9x Greater Scaling Health Seals
9x Greater CDR Glyphs / 9x Greater Glyphs of Ability Power Per Level
3x Greater AP Quints
This build is usually used on a team where they don't have much AD, but rather it would be better to have health than armor, or if they have an even amount of AP and AD.
