Introduction

First allow me to say thank you for viewing my build for Mordekaiser, Master of Metal. In this guide you'll see how incredibly durable Mordekaiser can become in mid to late game using his abilities to their fullest.

Runes

For Runes you'll take 9 Greater Mark of Insights, 9 Greater Seal of Vitality Greater Seals of Vitality, 9 Greater Glyphs of Celerity, and 3 Greater Quintessences of Potency. These will give you Magic Penetration (As Morde's abilities do not scale too well with flat Ability Power) great cooldown reduction for mid-late game (the ability to use your Ultimate every 40 seconds is a godsend) as well as a decent starting pool of health that will get bigger as you level even without health items.

Masteries

For Masteries you'll take the "standard caster" setup of 9/0/21 which on a Mordekaiser works wonders since you'll be building him tanky and with your Masteries set in such a manner you can chase and harass early game.

Pros / Cons

Pros:
Incredibly durable and impossible to 1v1.
Great damage output using your abilities.
Able to push harder than almost any champion in the League.

Cons:
Tend to be focus fired early game due to Morde's ability to ramp up quickly with gear from farming minion waves and jungling.
Always a target for "lockdowns" (stuns being chained so that you cannot move/cast/react).

Farming

Mordekaiser is by far one of the most superior farming champs in the entire game. During the earlygame/laning phase you will be last hitting minions using your "E" Siphon of Destruction, if your opponent is within the reach I recommend you also hit them with Siphon to harass them and perhaps get them out of experience range. At Level 2 you'll put a point into your "W" Creeping Death. With Creeping Death you can now charge your enemy while the shrapnel shreds apart minions around you, this will allow you to keep your laning counterpart at bay and give you a chance to out level them. At level 4 you will have your first point in your "Q" Mace of Spades, utilizing these 3 skills in conjunction will allow you to clear an entire creep wave with just 1 skill rotation garnering a nice chunk of change towards your final build. Also I believe that it should be noted that you should ALWAYS be killing something for gold, whether it be an enemy player, minion waves, or heading into the nearby jungle and downing a creep camp. Mordekaiser is very gear dependent and so to be an immense lane presence you must get that gear as soon as possible.

Team Work

Mordekaiser is great in teamfights as he has the innate ability to turn the tides of most any battle. When you are engaging in a teamfight always focus their lightweights (mages or other "squishy" damage dealers). When you have your Ultimate Children of the Grave you will be able to turn a losing fight around by slaying an opponent with your Ultimate and then using the enslaved soul produced by their death to take on their teammates. All too often I see Mordekaisers who do not control their pet and so allow me to remind those people to hold down the "Alt" key when you right click and the ghost will obey (I'll also point out that Riot slightly tweaked the "ghost" pet in that it can now only go a set distance from you before resetting and returning to your side, which inherently means people QQ'd about the ghost being OP but anyhow I just wanted to mention that little tidbit). The teamfight will almost always start with you initiating so I suggest you pop your "W" on yourself (use the Alt Key when you press "W" to cast the skill on yourself) and charge into the enemy. Focus a target with your team hitting them with Siphon and Mace of Spades when they are at around 1/3 of their health you will use your Ultimate and Ignite them to ensure a timely demise. From that first kill you can continue onward as Mordekaiser becomes much more powerful when he has an enslaved champion ghost, so push down a tower or kill the rest of their team whichever is more suited to the situation.

Playstyle and Final Words

Now this build works incredibly well with my playstyle, I am equally offensive and defensive... I harass early game with Siphon of Destruction as often as possible and maintain a constant lane presence by walking through the minion waves with Creeping Death up. While my minions are pressed on their tower I will fall back to the nearby jungle and reap some coin from them as well as maintain a constant shield from my passive Iron Man. Later in the game this build will be so durable that, unless you make foolish mistakes or are not that good at League, you will not die. I've been able to tank a whole team, a tower, and still kill 3 of the 5 and make it out with 1/3 of my health (of course they engaged me while a minion wave was present which was bad on their part). When you purchase Randuin's Omen be sure to ACTIVATE IT, it's passive abilities are great but when you're chasing someone down or want to save a teammate from that Warwick who's fast approaching slow things down with Randuin's active and clean house. The Doran's Shield is meant to be sold later (IF the game lasts long enough for you to do this...) and replaced with a Rylai's Crystal Scepter. Now go on out there, try this build and show some love for the Master of Metal!

Don't forget to rate/comment ^~^
