Introduction

Hello and welcome to DeeLaY's guide about Hecarim The Shadow of War. Hecarim is at the moment one of my favorite champs and I highly recommend you to buy him if you like to play as a AD carry or AD Tank. I have been looking around at other guides but haven't been happy about how they played Hecarim so i decided to make a guide of my own. This is my first public guide on Mobafire, I'm hoping that I can give you as much information as possible to help you to be a better Hecarim player.

I have only played Hecarim as AD carry at the moment but I'm going to try him as AD Tank and Jungler and I'm going to tell you what i think about the different roles

Much More Is Coming!!!!

Guide Top

Pros / Cons as AD Carry

Pros

+ Great Burst Damage
+ Tons of Damage
+ High Damage early game
+ Good to hunt and escape with

Cons

- In sort of squishy early
- Needs items to do high damage
- Needs farm and kills to be good
- Noobs are likely going to fail with his Ultimate

Pros / Cons as Jungler

Pros

+ Great at ganking
+ High damage
+ Great burst damage
+ Good to hunt and escape with

Cons

- In sort of squishy early
- Needs [Wriggle's Lantern to kill fast and to survive longer in jungle.
- Needs farm and kills
- Mana problems so you can't give blue to someone else

Overall

Pretty slow at jungling before you get your Wriggle's Lantern. Good damage but bad survivability, because of low lifesteal and armor. wriggel's lantern is an important item when jungling with Hecarim and many other champions because it gives more damage, more survivability (lifesteal and armor) and a free ward every third minute that helps alot while jungling. Hecarim is great at ganking because of his speed and knockback from E ( Devastating Charge) and charge and fear from R ( Onslaught of Shadows). In my opinion I think that he's not too bad at jungling but a great ganker. I think that the only reason why you should jungle with Hecarim is that he's good at ganking.

Summoner Spells

Flash: is one of the best summoner spells (in my opinion) because it can save your life and even help you to get a kill, so I recommend to use is.

Ignite: is my second favorite summoner spell because it can help you to win against enemys with high lifesteal like Warwick, Sion and so on and so forth. And it can also help you to finish an enemy champion.

Smite: is a must have if you are in jungle, otherwise you are going to get some problems to kills the buffs.

Teleport: is great if you want to get back to your lane fast or if you want to help other lanes. It is also very good to have if you are solotop.

For my masteries i take 12/9/9, in the Offence Tree i improve my Ignite, attack damage, attack speed, armor penetration and cooldown reduction all those stats are importent for Hecarim. I have only 12 points to take in the Offence Tree because I choosed to take 9 points each in the Defense and Utility and that makes a total of 18 points. In Defense I max the armor stats and i only take one point in Magic Resistance (you can max Magic Resitance instead of armor if you want) and I spend the rest of the points in health to increase the survivability. Now I have only 9 points left that I need to spend wisely, I take one point in improved recall because that is always good and it can save you, and then I spend maxed Expanded Mind to get more maximum mana. With my last 5 points I choosed to max out Swiftness becuase it is always good to have more movementspeed but it especially good for Hecarim because movementspeed=damage (his passive Warpath) and last but not least I take one point in Runic Affinity because it's good to increase the buffs duration with 20%.

Items

Here is only the information why should get these items not in which order you should buy them, if you want to see the purchase order go to the top and watch under "Purchase Order"!!!

AD Carry

You want to buy these boots because it gives the most amout of movement speed in battles and that means more attack damage because of Hecarim's passive ( Warpath), and the extra movement speed is always nice to have.

This item is a must have on Hecarim because his Q ( Rampage) has a very low cooldown and you are spamming it in fights so you activates your sheen that increases your next attack with 150% damage.

The Bloodthirster is also a must have when playing Hecarim as a AD carry because of the high damage and lifesteal that it gives. As you can see at the top under "Purchase Order" I'm buying two The Bloodthirster, the first one before phantom dancers and the second one after.

Phantom Dancer is a standard item for AD carrys, it gives good amount of attack speed and critical strike chance and also movement speed, and movement speed means attack damage for Hecarim.

This is the last item I'm buying and I'm getting this because of the high damage and critical strike chance but most because it increases the critical strike damage to 250% instead of 200%, and that is great. Usually at the end when I got all my items I crit 1350 on minions and around 900-1100 on champions.

My standard build looks like this:

But you need to adapt to your enemys, I'm giving examples how you can change the build to adapt to your enemys.

Good Against Armor Tanks:

Good Against High AP Team:

Good Against High AD team:
