Heimerdinger the revered inventor is one of the most unique champions in the game. Assuming you really on your H-28G EVOLUTION TURRET(S) you will have a very unique map control style of play. Heimerdinger is one of the best pushers in the game along with being the best defensive champions.
Runes & Masteries
I use very standard Runes and Masteries. Magic Penetration Marks, Mana Regen/ Level Seals, Cooldown Reduction Glyphs and Flat Ability Power Quintessences.
My Masteries are 9/21/0. Rushing the magic penetration in Offense Masteries and taking standard Defensive Masteries, extra magic resist and armor, health regeneration and health, increase ability power and garisson, and overall damage reduction. Heimerdinger is one of the most squishiest champions in the game this is why you use the Defensive Masteries instead of the Utility Masteries and let your Runes pick up the lack of utility.
Road of Ages: This item is great for Heimerdinger, it gives you health to help with your squishyness, mana that will help with your use of abilities and your strength of spirit mastery and ability power which will allow your turrets and other abilities to deal more damage.
Sorcerer's Shoes: Increased magic penetration and movement speed. These can also be replaced with Mercury Treads if the opposing team is crowd control heavy (stuns, snairs, etc).
Rabadon's deathcap: Best ability power item in the game, this is always a must have item.
Rylai's Crystal Scepter: Increased health and ability power. This is also another must have item as this items passive slows enemies that are hit by your Rockets or Stun Grenades.
Thornmail: Great defensive item for making your self more resistant to champions basic attacks and deal damage back to the enemy every time they hit you, you want to use this item when teh enemy team is mostly about doing regular Attack Damage. This item can be easily replaced though with a Force of Nature if the enemy team is focusing more on their Ability Power. If the enemy team is a mix between the two then I would recommend getting a Zhonya's Hourglass which when activated you become unable to receive any damage or activate abilities so try to throw your turrets down before activating this and use your ultimate.
Abyssal Scepter: More ability power and magic penetration, this is a must have item.
Fallow the exact skill sequence above, it works the best and is the most rewarding.
Turret Tips: Place your turrets a little in front of the tower when defending and stand in the middle of your turrets and the tower (Best to set them up like a triangle shape with your tower being one of the points of the triangle). Also when pushing make sure to place your turrets behind your melee minions to prevent them from taking more damage.
Rocket Tips: try to kill all surrounding minion before launching these off to ensure that you hit a champion. Also these have a lot of range so try to remember that most of the time you will be able to sit behind your turrets and still hit your target.
Grenade Tips: Basically try to lead the throw by judging where the enemy is going to move, also if a enemy has ability that allows them to jump to you wait for them to jump to you and then stun them.
Flash: Great for escaping or flashing closer to an enemy to last hit them with your rockets.
Garrison: Great ability to have when multiple enemies rush your tower and when combined with your Reinforce mastery it will will splash damage to all enemies. Combining this with your ultimate can make enemies flee or if they stay and fight earn you a ton of kills.
