Introduction - Who am I ?

My name is HeRbY, I am a former main Jungler and started maining midlane at the end of Season 3. The reason why i did this, was because I felt and I am still convinced that midlane is the most impactful lane in the game.

When I took this step, I was only Gold I. However midlane and especially Ahri allowed me to climb the ladders during 1 year, so I was able to reach at the end of Season 4 Diamond V.

WINRATES on Ahri :

Season 4

Season 3

So I played many ranked games with her and managed to have a constant 62% winrate on her. That surely indicates that i am not a perfect Ahri player, however everything above a 55% winrate is massive to climb the ladder.

I think that now is a good moment to write my FIRST guide, so i can share my knowledge with other. However, I guess my guide won't help high elo players that much, since i am only Diamond V, but it will definitely help people from lower divisions, which is the point of this guide.

Besides Ahri, I also really enjoy playing Syndra and Fizz.

To who is this guide directed to and why should you pick Ahri ?

To begin with, this guide is mainly for people on lower divisions (Bronze-Platinum), to give those players insight on how to climb at least some divisions at THEIR elo . Therefore, I don't include items like Morellonomicon in my itembuild, eventhough it is a must buy on competitive matches (since patch 4.20) but not required, in my opinion, in lower divsions. Furthermore, I will also give you general tips about roaming so you can catch people effetively, which is the key to win soloq games in lower elo.

So now why should you pick Ahri? Disregarding the fact that she is very fun to play and that you improve your general ability to hit skillshots (Q + E). On top of that, you can learn how to roam correctly as a midlaner, if you dont know it yet. Of course, you can transition all the stuff you learn by playing Ahri later on other champions or roles.

Her laning phase is in most cases very easy and the moment you hit level 6, you gain a lot of mobility and can impact the entire game succesfully and her late game is quite decent (more details later in the guide).

Pros + Cons

PROS

+ Extremly fun to play
+ 2 Skillshots ! Orb of Deception + Charm
+ Amazing Sustain in lane Essence Theft
+ Great mobility with your ultimate Spirit Rush
+ Insanely good at roaming
+ Very good oneshot potential with your Charm and Deathfire Grasp
+ In teamfights, if you follow my itembuild, you aren't reliant on your team to defend you, since you got a lot of mobility and a Zhonya's Hourglass
+ One of the best Ap late game champions
+ You can learn a lot for other champions and lanes by playing her

CONS

- You got no escape before your level 6
- Strong opponents can dodge some Skillshots

Mastery Pages

Always take Feast over 5% cdr in your Mastery Page (on any midlaner).
There are basically 2 Mastery Pages i recommand, you don't need any others for Ahri :

Utility 21/0/9

Explanation : This is the Mastery Page that you should take if you want to harass your opponent in midlane.

Defense 21/9/0

Explanation : This is the Mastery Page you can take if you think that you will get bullied in midlane.

Passive + Abilities

Your passive is very important in the laning phase. Upon raching 9 charges, your next ability will heal you. The more minions/champions you hit, the bigger is the heal. So normally, you want to use your Orb of Deception in order to get the maximal heal. Always have an eye on your passive it can make you harassing people easier since you are full hp or it can save your life in critical situations.

Your Q is your main damage and harass ability. It deals twice damage. The first time you land it deals magic damage and when it bounces back, it does the same amount of damage but true damage. If you hit your first Q damage max range, it's impossible for your opponent to dodge the second part of damage.
Always remember that your Q works like a boomerang, so that means even if you miss your Q initially, you can land the bounce-back with the help of your Flash or Spirit Rush.

Your W does some nice damage. Many people tend to underestimate the damage of this abilities, therefore you can sometimes catch people offguard with Flash + Ignite, auto-attack and W.

In opposition to your Orb of Deception, your E doesn't go through minions. If you want to get as much burst damage as possible, you need to hit your E first and directly spam afterwards your other abilities. If you already have an Deathfire Grasp, don't forget to use it directly after you hit your E.
It is also possible, to E + Flash in order to surprise your opponents. Here is video from Shiptur, who uses this trick to kill the ennemy.

Your ultimate doesn't deal much damage, but it provides you a lot of mobilitiy and outplay potential. Keep in mind once you you used your first charge, you still got 10 seconds to use the last 2 charges.

Skillorder : R>Q>W>E
Level 2 : E so you got your cc and you can deal more dmg with your q
Level 3 : I personally take Q, so you can farm and harass better
Level 4 : W

Trinkets and Wards + Roaming

Trinkets and Wards are very important for an assassin like Ahri. Of course, you start level 1 with Stealth Ward. On your first back, switch your trinkets and take a Sweeping Lens. If your team and you are able to place some Stealth Ward deep in the ennemey territory while sweeping their vision away, you will get great opportunities where you can easily kill opponents or get good fights.

Drake Fights, which become very important since the 4.20 patch are the ideal place where you can kill an ennemy before the teamfight even starts, when you camp in an sweeped bush and got wards to spot the ennemy in time. Like this, you can either guarantee your team a drake or if the opponents don't pay attention, you will get a 5v4 fight which most likely will end in your team's favour.

Personally, I put a Vision Ward often at the ennemy red buff myself, because you can get sometimes the ennemy adc there.

Roaming is the key to victory in Soloqueue when you play midlane. Always remember that winning your lane isn't how you win games or how you carry a game. You win games by using your lead, to make other lanes stronger. So if you are already 3-0 in lane, don't try to kill the ennemy midlaner 10 times but try to roam and help your teammates. You have to push out your lane of course before you start romaing, but that shouldn't be an issue with Ahri. Afterwards you need to look at your minimap and make the right decision. You can kill the ennemy Toplaner, ennemy Botlane or even their jungler if you have deep wards. It just depends on how much life they have or if they are out of poisition or not. With the time, you get a feeling if your roam will pay off or not.
You can also fake roams, when you know the sidebushes of the midlane are not warded, in order to kill the ennemy midlaner who might try to follow your faked roam or simply to create some chaos in the ennemy team.

General Informations + Final Words

Respect your teammates as much as you can. I also tend sometimes to have a suboptimal behaviour, which led me to many defeats. It already starts in the championelect. Don't flame people if they pick off-meta champs and if you feel unconfortable with your team, just leave and wait for 5 minutes.

Secondly, you don't need to be carry of every game. If your team is in a 12-0 lead and you are still 0-0, don't feel ashamed or anything just lean back and get yourself carried.

Lastly, always believe in comebacks. In every elo, you can come back from huge deficties. Just try to find out what your win conditions are or turle as a team, people will often throw victories to you and your team for bascially no reason.

So this my first guide, I hope some people will like it. I will update it quite frequently and if I find the time and people love this guide, i will do also a Fizz and Syndra guide soon.
