Introduction ( WHY!? )

( I changed Captain Jack with Jungle Jax, it is one of the cadences my unit marches with. )
Jax is probably my best jungler, and is great in 5v5 ranked / normal and 3v3 ranked / normal.
He isn't the most common ban, but you will see him banned in ranked.
Jax is one of those, "get him if you can" champs.
He is strong because he can do AP / AD / Hybrid, and can counter a lot of different lanes.
Runes
Jax leans either AD / AP / Hybrid,
Therefore this all in 1 guide for him will allow you to properly decide what you team needs.
Take the Armor Pen ones if you're going AD (Desolation)
- Quints & Marks
Take Magic Pen ones if you're going AP (Insight)
Take Armor Pen or Magic Pen Marks if you're going AP/AD Hybrid
- And Destruction Quints
-- As for Yellow Seals, go armor
-- As for Blue Glyphs, go some form of magic resist.
No matter what you build / lean towards one, but you're never completely one. You're always good as hybrid.
Masteries
This chart should answer most of your questions with masteries.
The only thing that you should change with in the build is.
Hybrid can go either.
Summoner Spells
The spells!
Smite
You never,
EVER, EVER, EVER, jungle on Jax without smite.
Ghost
Gets you in the game quicker. Allows you to chase down those buggers.
Flash
Your Leap Strike onto a ward already counters this. Waste of a summoner spell for Jax.
Ignite
It is alright, but nothing special. Usually melee don't go with ignite, but feel free to.
Exhaust
It is certainly a viable summoner spell for Jax. I'm not a fan of it, but the slow helps you nuke and into a stun.

You really don't have any other viable options for any other summoner spells.
Abilities
Passive
Basically increases attack speed. Makes you one hell of a tower pusher.
(Q) Leap Strike
Jump over walls onto wards, onto friendlies, or splatter an enemy.
(W) Empower
Makes you hit like a truck on your next autohit.
(E) Counter Strike
Your Dodge / Stun / Miss Everything, Damage Abilty.
This does damage, so it is great for when someone like Akali is in her zone bubble, and shes low HP. You can hit her with this and take her for the killing blow.
Or run next to an enemy, stun, and jump to an ally.
ORRR... You're getting focused, BAM to quick to hit.
(R) Grandmaster's Might
The best part of this is the passive. Gives you a lot more damage, and clearing speed. You start really hitting hard with AP and Attack Speed. You could take away the defensive part to Jax's Ultimate, and he would still be amazing.
However, activated ultimate is great when you're getting focused or getting your face kicked in. Tower dive? NO PROBLEM!

Pros / Cons
Pros
- Fantastic Ganks
- Can Counter Jungle
- Tanky, and escape routes
- AOE Stun
- Not easily countered.
Cons
- Take time to get use to timing.
- Relies on items.
- Snowballer = You don't do well early game, you won't late.
- Easy to jump into enemy on turret and die.
Team Work
You should be ready to be the main person to engage.
With a proper timed leap strike with counter strike. You'll be gold with an AOE stun.
You will work well with Anivia, Galio, Nunu, Brand and other champs that have an AOE ultimate.
Coordinate jumps and the timing that way you can stun quickly and smartly. You can save people with this.
Run next to an Enemy and counter strike. Soon after jump to an ally to live.
