Introduction

Welcome to my first guide, which just so happens to be for . I peaked Plat 3 this season in North America. I have been playing a lot of Ivern in ranked lately, and decided to make this guide because every guide I saw was not giving the right advice on how you should be playing him. Here is a sample (not the best) of my recent ranked games with him, for some credibility.

Pros / Cons

PROS
-Insane engage potential
-The fastest jungle invade of all time
-Tons of CC if used correctly
-Brushes can hide jungle camps, including while you are doing Baron and Dragon
-Brushes can hide allies running away, which helps them avoid that last deadly auto attack
-Can tilt your enemies EASILY by spamming ctrl + 1

CONS
-Extremely hard to play
-Will be useless if used incorrectly
-Can fall behind extremely fast
-Slowest jungle clear in the game past 20 minutes
-Almost no damage at all (Hard to take Dragons)
-Forced to build tank to be useful

  • Greater Seal of Armor: ALWAYS TAKE THESE! as you don't have any armor items that are as useful as Magic Resist and Health/AP are for him.

Here are the masteries you should be using on Ivern. Every match, all the time.

Jungling

The best part about playing Ivern is his ability to steal half of the enemy's jungle camps solo. It is a bit risky, but way better than a standard clear, as it messes up the enemy jungler's early game, and very easy to do if you follow the pathing maps I will show you in the Blue and Red side start sections. You never want to invade the enemy's bot side, only the top side.

Blue Side Start

Note: Do not put any points into your skills yet. The reason you do this is because if you are found invading before jungle camps spawn, you need to put your first point into your E Triggerseed so you have a shield and a slow for better chances of getting out alive. If you weren't spotted and you start the first camp, put your first point into Q Rootcaller, so you can get to camps faster or escape from the enemy jungler by hopping to a jungle camp if they find you.

The first thing you want to do on a Blue Side start is make sure the enemy jungler is starting bot side. You do this by following the path shown below.
The red circles in the bushes are checkpoints. When you reach each of these, wait in them for about 5 seconds. If you don't see anyone, go to the next one.

If you see the enemy Jungler while walking, not the enemy laner, go back to your side and do a standard clear. If you see the laner, run back to your side of the jungle, and then proceed again to the enemy's side before the camps spawn.

The Clear

Starting from Blue Side is more dangerous and complicated than if you had started from Red Side. You can get caught between the enemies easier due to the way the top side jungle is designed, and in order to do a fast clear, you need to do everything as fast as possible.
FOLLOW THESE STEPS EXACTLY
The first thing you want to do is start your grove on the Raptors as soon as they spawn. Use both charges of your Refillable Potion Refillable Potion. You then want to walk over past the Red Buff, and use your Q Rootcaller to hop to Krugs. Start another grove on Krugs as fast as you can. Walk to the Red Buff, start a grove, and instantly smite it. Place a ward in the bush shown on the map. (Note: If you want, you can place the ward after you are done clearing the whole side of the jungle) Put your second ability point into your E Triggerseed.

Wait at raptors and free them immediately when the grove is finished. If you see an enemy coming towards you while you are waiting for the grove at the Raptors to finish, follow the black line shown on the map above. If not, continue with the clear. Use your Q Rootcaller again to hop to Krugs, and free them when the grove is finished. Follow the gray line shown on the map above, and continue to clear your own jungle.

If you want, you can use your W Brushmaker to put bushes on top of where the Red Buff and Krugs spawned. This will force the enemy jungler to have to actually walk inside the bush to see if their camps were taken.

If you successfully do this, the enemy jungler will either
1: Be forced to go back after clearing only one side of their jungle.
2: Be forced to gank a lane even when there isn't a good opportunity.
3: Be forced to invade your jungle, where you and your team can easily kill them, since you already know exactly what he is doing.

Red Side Start

Note: Do not put any points into your skills yet. The reason you do this is because if you are found invading before jungle camps spawn, you need to put your first point into your E Triggerseed so you have a shield and a slow for better chances of getting out alive. If you weren't spotted and you start the first camp, put your first point into Q Rootcaller, so you can get to camps faster or escape from the enemy jungler by hopping to a jungle camp if they find you.

The first thing you want to do on a Red Side start is make sure the enemy jungler is starting bot side.

The Clear

Starting from Red Side is safer and easier than starting from Blue Side (It is still risky though). A Red Side start only has one path that is needed to follow, and it is a lot safer since there aren't any extremely dangerous walls to get caught between, unlike a Blue Side start.
FOLLOW THESE STEPS EXACTLY
The first thing you want to do is start a grove at Wolves right when they spawn. Use both charges of your Refillable Potion Refillable Potion You then walk over to Gromp, and start a grove there as well. Proceed to walk over to Blue Buff, put a grove down and instantly smite it. Put your second point into your E Triggerseed, and place a ward in the bush shown above (If you want you can place the ward after clearing everything). Wait at Wolves for the grove to finish, then immediately free them, along with the Gromp right after.

If you want, you can use your W Brushmaker to place bushes on top of the Blue Buff and Gromp, which forces the enemy jungler to check the bushes to see if you took the camps. Follow the black line on the map above and continue clearing your own jungle.
