Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
Welcome to my guide for Karthus, the undead lich.
Karthus was the second hero i ever bought. I remember I was playing against against when I was around level 10 and I was absolutely fascinated by the amount of kills he got just by using his ultimate at the right moments. I immediately spent all my 6.3k IP on him and I havent regretted i a second. Karthus is a incredibly fun hero with a very unique set of skills.
How to solomid
Your primarily goals when going mid with Karthus is farm, farm and farm. You want to get as many lasthits as you can while keeping your opponent at bay through harassing them with Lay Waste. You also want to keep an eye on the different lanes if possible to check if you can get any easy kill with Requiem.
What is very important to remember is that Karthus is not a burst hero. Most AP heroes rely on heavy burst for a few seconds and then have to wait a short time before they
can burst again. Karthus is the complete opposite, he deals continously high damage throughout every fight (until he gets out of mana). The only pure AP hero that is even remotely similar to Karthus is Swain and Morgana.
Until level 6, you can play pretty aggresive vs. Akali as long you keep distance. She won't have any way to get close to you except her Twilight Shroud, which you can force her out of with Lay Waste.
In level 6, however, she is incredibly deadly if played correctly. Stay at your tower if possible and just farm as much as you can.
I find Anivia quite easy to counter as Karthus.
Anivia got some insane burst, even before level 6, but that is only if she lands her Flash Frost. Other than that, she got worse harass than you and worse farming capabilities than you, so if played correctly you will eventually win the lane. Just play it cool, sit back and harass her with Lay Waste.
Play extremely defensive vs. her.
She can burn you up instantly with her combo, so hug tower as much as you can, recall when you have to and don't do anything stupid. There's no shame in getting a few CS behind Annie as long as you don't die.
A bit like Anivia, but much harder. He is quite reliant on hitting with his Pillar of Flame, so staying mobile is key here.
If he misses his Pillar of Flame and you feel safe, you can but a Wall of Pain on him and do some damage on him. He will kill you in a pure 1v1 though, remember that. He can farm alot better than Anivia, but still not as good as you so just keep your cool.
I got to admit, I haven't played alot vs. her. But from what I can recall she got one of the best harass in the game, so not buying Boots of Speed as first item is really stupid against her.
