Introduction

This build is a build for Skarner that has worked great for me! It is hybrid with good AP, AD, Health, and Attack Speed. Skarner is very useful in teamfights, and also very good at sustaining in his lane. He also has a lot of health and can hit very hard. His ult is unlike any other and is a great asset for team fights.

Skarner's Story

Centuries ago, there lived a race of creatures as ferocious as they were wise. The brackern were unusual beings blessed with the earth's primal magic, embodied in the form of crystals. Their kind knew of an arcane ritual to bind their life's essencehttp://www.mobafire.com/league-of-legends/edit-build?edit=113091# to a crystal, communing with the magic embedded in it. With this power, the brackern thrived in the Odyn Valley, protecting both creatures and crystals alike. Despite attacks from those looking to claim the primal magic, it seemed that nothing could get past the brackern's defenses. Nothing, that is, until the devastation of a Rune War.

A vicious battle was fought near the Odyn Valley and the unleashed chaotic magic poisoned the crystals. The brackern began to grow sick and die, and no amount of defensive magic could reverse the effects. To avoid extinction, their only course was to hibernate underground until the wars stopped. The strongest, most intelligent brackern hibernated closer to the surface to awaken first and assess the world's condition for the return of their race. The recent mining operations and violent escalation in Kalamanda were enough to awaken the first of these vanguards. When Skarner burst to the surface, he lashed out in anger and confusion. Reason eventually won out over his anger when he realized that the agents of the League who found him were simply functionaries. Skarner was invited to the Institute of War to share the brackern's story. In return, the summoners told him about the history that his kind had slept through. Much had been done to curb the unchecked use of magic since the Rune Wars, but it was obvious that the world was not yet safe for his kind to reawaken. For now, however, there is a place where Skarner can use his power to change the world into one to which his kind could eventually return: the League of Legends.

''The humans have not yet learned to control their magic - what once was Kalamanda is now a crystal scar on the history of this world.'' – Skarner

Runes

Greater Quintessence of Replenishment
I get three Greater Quintessences of Replenishment because early game, Skarner is very mana hungry.

Greater Mark of Attack Speed
I get nine Greater Marks of Alacrity because along with Shattered Earth's effects, Skarner's auto attacks do great damage, and this way you can get more of them off.

Greater Glyph of Mana
I get nine Greater Glyphs of Intellect to not only give Skarner more mana but also compliment Manamune.

Greater Seal of Health
I get nine Greater Seals of Fortitude to give Skarner more health early on in the game.

Summoner Spells

For my Summoner Spells, I use Ignite and Flash, although Exhaust is also very useful. Flash is used to quickly get away from any amount of enemies. Quickly using Seismic Bastion after Flash will increase your chances of getting away by greatly increasing your movement speed. For my seconds summoner spell spot, it is a toss-up between Ignite and Exhaust. Ignite is useful when an opponent is dependent on healing to stay alive, or for finishing an enemy champion off so you do not have to tower dive them. Exhaust is a useful also, for running and for pursuing a champion, but is not completely necessary for Skarner because he has Seismic Bastion to run away faster and Shattered Earth to slow.

Skills

I level Ixtal's Impact (E) first because it gives a useful heal, and very good damage that can affect more than one person. I then get Shattered Earth because it works very well with Fracture. If you see a crowd of minions, it is very easy to fracture them all, then simply move to the middle, use Shattered Earth (Q), and watch your health go up. The third skill to get is Seismic Bastion (W). After you have maxed Ixtal's Impact, go back and forth between Shattered Earth and Seismic Bastion.

Items

Because Skarner runs out of mana very quickly early game, start with a Meki Pendant and one of each potion. Get a Tear of the Goddess as soon as possible. Get tier 1 boots for some extra movement speed, then proceed to buy Manamune, which will give you lots of mana and some good attack damage. After buying Manamune, you will buy Tier 2 boots, for the items list i decided on Berserker's Greaves for the added attack speed. Next, get a Rod of Ages to improve your ability power, and also give you health and more mana. Now you will get your Stinger, to increase attack speed and lower the cool downs of your spells. Trinity Force is the next item to get because it benefits all parts of your hybrid build and gives more survivability. The first part of Trinity Force that you will get is Sheen, because you can use Shattered Earth very often, which will proc the affect of Sheen. After that, complete your Nashor's Tooth, which will give you more ability power, and much better attack speed. The Hextech Gunblade will finish up your build because it will give you some good AP and AD, and also it's active is very useful.

Teamfights

Skarner can be a very valuable asset in team fights. Impale can be useful in many ways. The first way is by Impaling the opposite teams carry, or someone who is doing a lot of damage, and dragging them back to your teammates. Before you go for the Impale, turn on Seismic Bastion to gain lots of movement speed, and also so that you don't lose as much health. After the suppress is over, activate Crystal Slash and slow the enemy so they can not run back. Another way that Impale is very useful is taking enemies away from a team mate who is about to die, or who is squishy and ranged, such as Ashe or Caitlyn.
