Summoner Spells

I play poppy in every lane/role and will make guides for them if people request it, but for not I am going to focus on top lane.
As we all know ignite is a great spell to finish off a kill.

I rarely run exhaust in a solo lane. I know it sounds odd, but I run poppy as a support occasionally with certain AD carry's poppy pairs very well as a support which I may write another guide for. For now though this guide will be focusing on top lane.

In my opinion there is no summoner spell that comes close to ghost. It allows you to escape the craziest of situations especially in combination with Diplomatic Immunity, catch nearly anyone in the game(even if they flash), also you already have a gap closer with your Heroic Charge .

Building runes for poppy is fairly simple. My style of play with poppy is very aggressive because early game she can trade positively with nearly any champion in the game.
Every game I run dual pen red even if I am building AP because it deals more damage than just flat damage runes.

For Seals Armor is the best way to go because everyone does physical damage.

As for Glyph's and Quints it depends on the lane. If I am against a bruiser I run lifesteal and attack speed.

If I am against an ap champ or a tank like shen/malph I will run health regeneration runes and magic resist glyph's.

I have yet to play with new new mastery tree however moving forward I think this set will help poppy out a lot with her style of play. The Increased mana and health regen will really help a lot early game as well as the improved potions. For now the defensive tree does not appear to be worth it for poppy, but I will update this as I collect more data.

Most of the time I find my self starting off with long sword and 2 pots with the lifesteal quints, but If i know I can win lane I will start dorans blade. There is not a AD bruiser I cannot do well against with 1 of those 2 starts.

As far as AP champions top, Most of these ap tops with either be tanky or will have really good poke against you. I will start dorans shield and then get life steal in order to sustain well.

RED POT START - Why would you every start red pot? The item costs 350g which you will never get back. Even if you do by some chance get first blood you still are going to go back and buy one of the items that I started with or a sheen. Why would you want to make the build take longer? Red pot is a start for champions that can snowball early.

In most situations Paragon of Demacia is going to be your best choice for your first point. This gives you armor and attack damage allowing you to win most trades in your lane early especially if you have full stacks. On the occasion that your team chooses to invade I would recommend Heroic Charge.

Second I usually like to get Heroic Charge unless my lane is all over me in which case Devastating Blow will help you trade better.

From there Max Devastating Blow if you are doing well in lane or max Paragon of Demacia if you are getting dominated by a top with mostly physical damage.

Always get your Diplomatic Immunity every 6 levels because near invulnerability is what makes you so good!

Why Play Poppy?

1)Simply stated in my opinion Poppy is the best hyper carry in the game.
2)She can dive an entire team 1 v 5 kill the ad carry and get away.
3)She almost always can avoid being killed by ganks post level 6.
4)You can play her as a glass cannon effectively even in high elo games.
5)Your mid - late game is monstrous.
6)She is very effective vs the normal meta team since you can just focus their carry and not be tanked.
7)She can tower dive early game with ease.
8)Her passive confuses other players in to thinking they can kill you.
9)She is difficult to gank with her passive, movement speed and her charge being used to escape.

Guide Top

As I have been writing this guide it got me thinking about all the tips and tricks that I use in the game. I will list them in this section as i think of them.

1)Many top lane champions have the ability to push the lane fast and poppy is not one of them. Make sure that you are very proficient at farming under the tower as some of the matches will require a lot of this.

2) Heroic Charge Is a utility move and can be used in multiple situations. Although the best use is probably to stun someone into a wall, you can also use it to charge a minion to escape a sticky situation, or just use it to close the gap and catch someone. Remember even if someone is not in charge range you can charge a minion in order to catch them.

3)If you do happen to charge someone into a wall(especially early in the game). It is very important to do maximum damage. Always let poppy auto attack once and then use Devastating Blow which will reset the hit timer. You can do this in normal trades also, but they cant walk away in this instance. This is much less important late game when you have fast attack speed and your Devastating Blow hits very hard.

Gunblade vs Botrk vs Hydra

Which items build provides maximum dps

- With a build of Trinity IE BT botrk and PD with no buffs, ult or potion – Your AA DPS will be 1071 AA + Skills damage 1375 and A combo will do about 1265 damage to a normal AD Carry.

- With a build of Trinity IE BT hydra PD with no buffs, ult or potions – your AA DPS will be 806 AA + Skills damage 1124 and A combo will do about 1275 damage to a normal AD Carry.

- With a build of Trinity BT BT Gunblade Hydra – Your AA dps will be 413 AA + Skills damage 769 and A combo will do about 1450 Damage to a normal AD Carry

As you can see the Botrk build does the most dps and skills dps, but has the smallest amount of sustain and burst. The hydra build does decently high dps and about the same burst as bortk granted that this is calculated vs a single target so hydra does more in actual team fights. Also hydra has slightly higher sustain. The build with the gunblade has a much higher burst damage and sustain, but the DPS was very low on this build. Both of the BOTRK and GUNBLADE builds have their perks and are viable in different situations.

Some items that did not make the list:

Last Whisper : This item goes up in efficiency if the targets have much more armor, but AD carries and AP carries do not and you should be killing them.

Static Shiv: This item provided less damage and slightly less burst than PD in a full build situation.

Manamune: In the full build it still does less damage than ie or blood thirster and it has no utility.
