My first Guide. But well, its no guide. I have not played this guy quite often so let's read it and try it out. Meybe.

My idea was: Taking Dmg-Items is not good, because he will be dead very quickly.
Taking Tanky-Items is not good, because there are better tanks like shen or rammus.
So - mix it.

All of his ghouls scales with Attack damage. If we want to deal more damage, we need AD.
The abilities have quite a short cooldown, in lategame you will spam your ghouls, so we need a big manapool, too.
---> Manamune is a good choise, i think.
The other items will join this effect.

Boots:
Well, you don't need atackspeed-boots, because if you go on attackspeed, you would have chosen Xin. You need survibility to have a long time to deal as much as possible damage caused of your ghouls. Stuns are not welcome. So I choose the mercury's treads.

Frozen heart:
Perfect. It will give you cooldown-reduction, so you can spam your ghouls. You get armor, which you need as melee. You get mana, which you need for your spammings AND you get damage of this mana because you have a manamune.

Banshee's Veil:
This item will provide you from stuns like tibbers, it gives you health and mana. And followed from this you get damage, too. (Cause of that health of banshee's Veil, you will get damage, too if you choose Atmas, later)

Warmog:
I like this item, if I play Jarvan. Combined with atmas you get nice damage and a good survibility. But care of skills, which damage you dependence of your max-hp (like Ulti of Mordekaiser, or Amumu's crying, or the ouddle of the prophet of the void).
It's a good choise, if you have the posibillity to farm it to his max usefulness.

Atmas Impaler:
Impaler ... remindes me to the great Soul-reaver-games ... but OT ^^
In connection with the health you get of warmogs and Banshee's Veil, you get a nice adition to your damage, which is cause of your manamune.
It will also give yo some armor, which is needed.

IMPORTANT!

!!DON'T BE A ZILEAN!!
Your ghost does 100% damage of the clone - so don't waste it on your dieing tanks in teamfight. Put it on your ashe, vayne, miss fortune, ... any autoattackers; AD carrys!
Why? You will have a 6 vs 5 teamfight ;-)
