welcome to my first guide. in this guide i will be talking about sion. sion is a melee dps tank that can do massive damage to the enemy team, and take out specific targets such as the ranged ad carry or the ap carry.
I have added an Ap sion build , in case you like your mages super tankie , or just want to play sion the extraordinary way.
(by the way, i am sorry if my lack of knowledge offends anyone , but i hope you will understand.
Also , everything that is written in this guide is a RECCOMENDATION. if you don't like it , don't use it. :)
I prefer playing sion as a solo top role , however it can fulfil every single role in the game (except for the ranged ad carry... coz he is melee).When you are playing sion , make sure you understand the defensive and the offensive ways to play him. for example , you can take exaust and flash, exchange some damage , and make him think you are backing off, and he will continue farming . prepare your shield , flash back in , stun him , exaust him blow the shield on him and the basic attacks should do the trick. FIRST BLOOD. I like using this trick to take down the ad carry or the ap carry in the teamfights. very useful.
The best summoner spells in my opinion are exaust and flash like i said before , however there are some more options for you.
1. exaust& flash . -i have explained this at the Gameplay chapter.
2. Ignite & exaust .
It isn't very surprising like flashing and exausting from a bush or a place they don't see you , but it is pretty effective for ensuring kills and it is a deadly combo early game. also ignite is always useful against champions like mundo , warwick , vladimir , nasus , and of course sion :)
3. cleance can help you in case you get ignited during your ulti , and it may save you or your team mates from dieing.
let's talk about less useful spells:ghost is not a very effective spell , since with the boots , the masteries and the phantom dancers , you have above 500 movement speed. i doubt you need ghost since you have the stun , and the shield , so you will probably be able to catch anyone , and to get out of almost every situation.
heal is pretty much useless . you only need it early game to survive early dives. besides that , it won't help you at all. you got over 3500 hp and alot of lifesteal, heal is not reccomended.
teleport is a spell that i never take on summoners , except for shen (ulti)
because if you need to get to somewhere that fast, that means you have made a mistake that you shouldn't have done. for example , genking bot while the enemy solo is alive.
However, teleport can be used to teleport to a teamfight and may change the odds and give you an advantage. Therefore , if you like to do that, feel free to take it.
clarity. Sion's mana pool is quite low. And if you ever played sion , i bet you noticed that you always run out of mana if you use your skills too often. clarity might help you with that , but i prefer a blue buff. if you can't get the blue buff , try to you your skills more wisely or buy some mana pots. I do not reccomend this spell.
the other spells are pretty much useless. so i don't really want to talk about them.
in a solo top lane , the survivability is one of the most important keys of winning the lane.
I start with boots and 3 pots so that i will be faster than my opponent (to run away or to chase) and 450 hp (pots) that can really help stay in lane longer so you won't lose xp going back all the time.
At my first buy i like to get at least one ward , a vampiric scepter , and if i can , to finish berserker boots, for more movement speed and faster attacking for more damage , and better last hitting chance.
Since sion has a built in damage skill ( E gives 25/35/45/5565 damage ) , i prefer to max it first , and get attack speed and movement speed. (to get away from genks [that's what the wards are for] and to outdamage and chase easier my targets).
The phantom dancers serve them both.
Afterwards , i want to get the atmas impaler , because the E doesn't deal enough damage, ( I WANT MORE) , and sion gets bonus max health for every enemy unit he kills. also it gives armor , so why not?
I now complete the bloodthirster ( because there is nothing bad with more damage and lifesteal)
and for last , i build guardian angel for the defences, because you need to initiate the teamfights , and if something bad happends , it can revive you , and also it protects you from some of the enemy team damage. ( guardian angel might help you win 1v3 fights )
These are the reasons I got for my build , but of course you can change some items based on your enemy team. if they do alot of physical damage , go for thornmail or frozen heart instead of the guardian. if they do alot of magical damage , go for force of nature that also regens your health quite fast.
if the enemy team has malzahar or warwick , feel free to get a quicksilver sash. (if it is on cooldown , cleance is a great backup plan against them both)
