Always play aggressive early game, show the dominance you have in lane and force your opponent to cry for help from their Jungler! Come level 6 enemy ganks will grant you double kills easily from the two man tentacle ult, if you can only ult one your damage will still be enough from the Full AD build. With this build and laning style you will wreck lane but still go easy on the bm, from experience I have had 3+ man ganks at 12 minutes in because of bm'ing, it is important to bm, but you may struggle if 3 people gank and have cc that will put you in the dirt. The mastery Page also works well with Merciless instead of Meditation however, I find that in order to take the full potential from this build you should take mana regeneration so you can abuse the use of your abilities. This is also the reason to take Secret Stash instead of Assassin. If you tend to play a more passive lane against your opponent then you're playing Illaoi wrong!

It is best to max your Tentacle Smash (Q) first especially against ranged champions in Top Lane. For versing champions such as Irealia and Jax who jump onto their opponent, It is better to max Harsh Lesson (W) as you will be able to use it more against them in fights.
