Introduction

Mordekaiser's a fun champion, a ridiculous tank, and a great caster when built correctly. In this guide I'll be showing you a few different ways to utilize Mordekaiser in different situations. So let's get started with the build I use the most - focusing on AP and health regeneration.

You wanna start out with a Regrowth Pendant and a Health Potion or 2
and

Whether you're soloing or laned with a partner, you don't want to play too aggressive. Remember that Morde's a great farmer, so utilize Siphon of Destruction (the first skill to get and max) and Mace of Spades to farm minions while harassing the enemy champion(s).
and

When you have enough gold from farming, it's time to buy some boots. If you're going against a team with a majority of casters and/or champions with crowd control, your best bet is Mercury's Treads. If you're against a team with a lot of dps, go for Ninja Tabi to add do your dodge from runes and masteries.
or

You should be around level 6 by now, when the real killing begins. Continue harassing your enemies, and when they're low you can use the combo of Children of the Grave and Ignite to do continual damage and reduce their health regenerating abilities. If you do get a kill while Children of the Grave is active, you get a nice little ghost partner of the person you killed, and these ghosts are great for both pushing and farming.
and

Now it's about mid-game, and as long as you keep busy farming minions and jungling when you're not going for kills or defending your towers, money shouldn't be too much of a problem for you. If you're against a team of casters, you're gonna want to buy Force of Nature next, which gives you tons of health regeneration, magic resist, movement speed, and a great passive that restores hp based on your maximum hp. This is a great combo with Warmog's Armor, because you'll have a ton of health and health regeneration. This is where Mr. Immortalkaiser comes into play, as you'll be able to initiate fights and tank just about anything.
and

Now that you've got tanking covered, it's time to start working on your AP for damage. The first item on the list for this is Rylai's Crystal Scepter because of the slow when you use an ability and the nice boost in AP. The slow is great for team fights, because not only can you tank and do some damage, but you slow down everyone you hit with your skills. So here's a little recap of what your build should look like right now:

Late game is closing in fast, and you have to make the choice of further adding to your tanking capabilities or making yourself a powerhouse. I almost always go the route of getting more AP, because you're gonna kill just about anyone before they can kill you. Rabadon's Deathcap is a nice little boost to your AP, and Lich Bane will seal the deal. You're gonna have at least 300 AP, and every time you use a skill your next attack will deal damage equal to your AP (yes, even to towers). Because of Mordekaiser's small cooldowns, he's a champion that can use Lich Bane to its fullest extent, and that's why it's a great choice. You won't be able to finish your build every game, but let's take a look at the finished product:

Alternative Items

Another great thing about Mordekaiser is that he can adapt to any situation by buying a quick item or two. So now I'm going to show you some nice alternative items to help you out in different situations.

Sometimes I find myself starting with Doran's Shield instead of Regrowth Pendant. You'd be surprised how much of a difference 100 health makes at level 1, and you still get some health regeneration. You sell this item later, but it's great early game.

Here we have the Frozen Mallet. This item will give you 700 health, 20 attack damage, and a passive of slowing down whoever you hit with a standard attack by 40%! With this and Rylai's Crystal Scepter, their entire team is gonna be slowed every second in team fights, which obviously makes escaping much harder.

Next we have something known as Hextech Gunblade, it gives you spell vamp, life steal, attack damage, and ability power. It also has a nice passive which does 300 magic damage and slows the target by 50% for 3 seconds. Not a lot of people think it's useful on Morde, but I've tested it in both practice and normal games and it's something I've been incorporating more in my build lately.

If you're against a team with heavy crowd control, you have a few options. Obviously your Mercury's Treads will help you out, but sometimes that's just not enough. Allow me to introduce you to the Quicksilver Sash and Banshee's Veil. Quicksilver Sash gives you magic resist and an active ability which removes all debuffs from you. You can also buy Banshee's Veil, which gives you health, useless mana, magic resistance, and blocks a negative spell every 30 seconds. I usually choose Quicksilver Sash, just because it's cheaper and you don't need the mana from Banshee's Veil, but the choice is yours!
or

If you have a team of casters to support, Will of the Ancients may be a nice choice for you. It gives you 40 AP, but also has an aura which gives all nearby allies 30 AP and 20% spell vamp

Finally we have the Leviathan... if you're feeling cocky, go ahead and buy this item. Once you get 20 stacks, you'll be taking 15% reduced damage which is insane.

Runes

I chose the runes that I felt complimented Mordekaiser the best, magic penetration, dodge, and flat cooldown reduction.

Marks - 9x Marks of Insight for 0.95% Magic Penetration

Seals - 9x Seals of Evasion for 0.75% Dodge

Glyphs - 9x Glyphs of Focus for 0.65% Cooldown Reduction

Quints - 3x Quints of Insight for 1.89% Magic Penetration

Summoner Spells

I'll be posting summoner spells in order of their importance:

Ignite is great for last hitting and works well when you combine it with your ultimate. It also reduces health regeneration, which is nice against champions with disgusting amount of health regeneration like Dr. Mundo.

Ghost is a great spell for escaping or chasing people down. Combined with your slows from Rylai's Crystal Scepter and Frozen Mallet, Ghost is effective for cleaning up people trying to escape.

Flash is another nice spell for making a quick escape. You can flash over walls or into brush to try and trick your opponents.

Fortify is a nice choice for defending your turrets, and it's commonly used by the tank, but it's not as useful in combat as the other spells.

Summary

I hope this guide helps you guys out, I know most Mordekaisers focus on tanking, but I've come to find that he also does a ridiculous amount of damage with some AP under his belt. I'll be updating this guide and looking for feedback, and I'll also be sure to post some of my match history soon. If you're going to give a negative rating, please write a comment so I know what I can do to make improvements. Thanks for reading guys, peace and love.
