I use it...

...and it was ok. I have win with it many times, and it was very evil because
you have much magic penetration, much AP and much life to crush every enemy into
the ground. ( The number at the top of this (ap) is more than 700 :) )

First Max your Malefic Visions (DOT) because it makes a lot of damage in front of the mid lane
you can push with it the enemy back to his tower and farm a lot of minions.
And it gives your mana back when you kill a minion or an enemy with this dot.

Your silence is very strong as your dot. It's Call of the Void.
It is an AoE Skill (Area of effect) and can hit all minions or more than 2 enemy at the same time. The Silence is very useful when you got ganked from Warwick or other champs
who use a skill for stunning you. Or in the Team fights you can use it to make
powerful damage and Silence the entire enemy's.

Next is the Null Zone. It is the AoE DoT of Malzahar. He cast this Zone or field on the
ground where every Enemy or Minion gets damage when he goes on it.

It makes Dmg in % maybe the enemy have 1000 life your Dmg makes 10% in a second also makes 500 dmg in the full 5 seconds.

Now to your Ultimate. Nether Grasp is his name and very useful in solo fights or to pick the damage dealer or damage caster from the other team to make him the first target.

It a Suppression skill and Suppress the enemy so he can't use Heal, Flash, Ghost, or any of his Skills. The positive effect he can't get away and get damage over time. The negative effect...
you can't get away when you cast it and you can't cast another skill without break the casting from your ultimate... very bad... but you are not malzahar when you have an answer for this.

First the enemy comes to you. You silence him and give him your Malefic Visions, the you place your Null Zone under his feet and shot your Ultimate on him...
When he is lucky he can get away after this but not against you cast the Malefic Visions
after your Ultimate on him and he die a painful dead when he try to eat his hole
potion inventory =)

Only cast your Ultimate when you can get the kill.
And when you can get away...
..Don’t be greedy...
