After playing a lot of Attack Damage builds I wanted to try something a little different with Irelia today. My initial plan was to build her as a Hyrbid, and the build still mostly reflects that. However, I quickly found that by stacking AP I could produce a lot more damage with her E. This is great, but I didn't want to cripple her other abilities so I built her as a Hybrid turning heavy AP by the end of the match.

The experiment was a huge success and I went 15-2-13 in the match I played with it. The key with Irelia is that you absolutely can not initiate a team fight. 1v1 you'll be able to burst down almost anyone and then finish them off with your ultimate when they start to run (and they will). As far as team fights go you will serve your team far better by staying toward the back or even out of sight completely and then jumping in on the squishies after your tank has initiated. You can easily get multi-kills and when the enemy team starts to focus you, flash out of there. Yes, you will be reliant on Flash to get out of the fray as soon as you start taking damage. I normally prefer Ghost, but with Irelia I've found Flash to be far more reliable due to the fact that if you get CC'd you're screwed. This build is squishy.

Pros
-Huge burst damage without crippling your other capabilities
-Excellent farming (Kage's makes this build possible, and gives you an early game AP boost)
-Tower killer (Guinsoo's passive is amazing for this)
-1v1 killer (Always use your Gunblade's active)
-Great ganking capability
-High Attack Speed
-Medium Attack Damage
-Great pusher

Cons
-Fairly Squishy
-Can be reliant on Flash during team fights because Irelia has no other escape tools.
-Your only CC aside from, your E will be the Gunblade

A tip about your ulti: It doesn't crank out massive damage but it is a fantastic deterrent if you're on the run. If things aren't going so well for you and you're being chased down, pop your ulti and as you run shoot the blades at your chasers. I've actually gotten kills this way. Aside from Flash, it is your best escape tool. When people start taking damage from chasing you they will be less inclined to do so.

Summoner Spells: I've found Flash to be almost a must for Irelia, but a Cleanse/Ghost combo might also work. I like having ignite as a deterrent to attackers and a finishing move if I can't catch or dive a low enemy, though for lane pushing and defense, Teleport is a fantastic alternative. Depends on how you want to play. Don't become to reliant on Flash, because Riot has said they are removing it in the future.
