Introduction

Hello guys and welcome to my guide for Irelia . I have done this guide of my own ranked experience. So if you dont like my way of playing, thats up to you. BTW i play Irelia as an tanky assassin character with high damage output.

So enjoy!

Pros/Cons

Pros:

Great damage throughout the game
Sick sustain in lane QQ
A very good 1v1 champion
Can carry a game pretty easily
Really good on jumping onto the enemy carry blowin him up

Cons:

If shut down..... she is gonna be bad.
Must have farm solo lane+farm to be good
Item dependant

So to prevent this cons is to make a good early game and you´ll be fine.

Runes

For runes i got Attack Damage Red, Armor Yellows, MR Per Level Blues and Attack Damage Quints.

The reason behind this runes is that you get lots of damage early on with the total of 15 ATK DMG. And the flat armor gives you that defense you often need in a top lane cuz most of toplaners deal physical damage. I go for MR per level cuz after level 9 when you start taking more magic dmg from tf and stuff they´ll be better then flat, they can be swtiched out to flat if you face for example Rumble , Mordekaiser or any magic damage top laner.

Runes

Precision
Fleet Footwork
Phase Rush

Masteries

I go for 21/9/0 cuz i think its the way that fit me the most and you will be able to be aggressive in lane and do ALOT of damage. And those 9 in defense give you some nice defensive stats.

9/21/0 also works just perfect if you wanna be a little more tanky Irelia but i believe that 21/9/0 works better for me.

Summoner Spells

I go for Ignite and Flash in most cases. I go for Ignite cuz the sick dmg she does with Hiten Style+ Transcendent Blades+ Ignite. And i think Flash is good on any character no matter what, it could be switched out to Ghost if your more that kinda person who likes running around fast.

In some cases i switch out Ignite with either Exhaust or Teleport depending on the match up.

Exmaple: if i face Tryndamere in my lane i will consider taking Exhaust cuz of his crazy damage.

I take Teleport mostly when i'm premade and we decided to pick dragon fights. With Teleport i can just port to dragon and that's often 180 free gold for each team member.

i don't find any other summoner spell good enough to use.

Items

So... now to the build. My build always depends on who i am laning against.

Start Items:

Cloth Armor 5x Health Potion if i lane against Riven , Tryndamere or any hard physical damage dealer. This is what i pick in most cases.

Boots 3x Health Potion if i lane against a fast moving champion or someone with alot of skillshot example: Cho'Gath , Karthus (rare)

Regrowth Pendant 1x Health Potion if you are facing a low damage opponent (i do not take this much anymore cuz i find other options more valuable) example: Malphite , Cho'Gath

There is so many options, but its you who gonna decide which one fit you and your playstyle the best :)

I try to get my Wriggle's Lantern as soon as possible cuz after that you´r sustain will be SO good.
Then i will get upgrade Boots depending on the situation

example: lots of physical dmg= Ninja Tabi
Lots of magic dmg/CC= Mercury's Treads

I dont think any of the other boots are viable enough to be used.

Then i get my core item which this build is all about Trinity Force . That item is so good for Irelia , every single stat give something thats good for Irelia . After my Trinity Force i usually build defensive items making me a good tanky damage dealer.
An exception is the Wit's End cuz it synergies so well wit Irelia+it gives some nice MR.'

The thing with tanks is that you will rarely go for the same build all the time.

Example: If they got lots of attack speed champions like Teemo or Tryndamere you should consider getting Frozen Heart but if they got lots of magic damage like Cassiopeia you should consider getting Force of Nature or Banshee's Veil .

A build I've noticed that synergies very well with irelia is to rush Berserker's Greaves and wits's end as early as possible. This will give you sick fighting potential and you will be able to beat almost anyone in a direct 1v1 as you will have so much attack speed which means alot Hiten Style procs. But i'll recommend this build to more experience players and if you are ahead of your opponent as this wont give you any defensive stats like Wriggle's Lantern and Phage will do.

Viable Items

I do really like this item cuz of the amazing slow it gives. The thing about this item is that without a Warmog's Armor and Atma's Impaler i will never fell like a very big threat. I dont say it's bad, it's good cuz you will be really tanky but it doesn't fit my playstyle as Irelia .

A great item combined with Frozen Mallet and Atma's Impaler but without those two items i actually think its pretty worthless, Exception if you play a character who stacks with HP items like Sejuani and Volibear . The reason is you only get health and some hp regen, not any utility or damage.

this item is really good if you're stacking health or atleast having a decent amount of health. I have found this item also very good if you have Atma's Impaler+ Trinity Force+ Infinity Edge with this items you will have insane damage but you will lack survivability which is the reason i don't use this very much.

Hexdrinker=55 I haven't really been able to try this item out but the stats that it gives look really cool. I find that would do very good against bursty ap casters like Veigar or Malzahar . But as i said i haven't tried it out yet.

While this item isn't in my build i actually tend to use this item alot. The reason is that it gives some nice defensive stats and that revive thing. So i definitively recommend this item for those who really like it.

This item is really luxury imo, it will give you sick damage but at a very high cost. I would personally don't recommend this item for ranked gameplay but if you go a game and you feel you'r lacking some damage then buy this item. It will do superb if you also have a Trinity Force and Atma's Impaler which will result in a 58% crit chance which is very good for a tanky dps.

Really, i don't recommend this item personally. I have tried it out and i get sad every time i use it. You will not get as much stats for the money if we compare to Wit's End which is a really good item on Irelia . Leave it to the AD carry.

I actually like this item a lot. If the enemy team got a Mordekaiser I will get this item cause it can cleanse his ult away and it gives some nice MR.

If you started with Regrowth Pendant and built into a Philosopher's stone definitively get this item. It's really really good, it will give your team a speed boost which is great for escaping/engaging/chasing and it will give you some very nice stats.

This item is so underrated. Just look at the stats. You will heal yourself for huge amounts with Hiten Style and Transcendent Blades and you got a Soraka or any kind of healing champion on your team that's also nice.

I've seen many Irelia with this item. It looks very good and it is very good. But personally i don't really think it's so good that i would buy it constantly. But i do recommend it for players to try and see if you like it, go for it.

I rate this one just like infinty edge just the fact that Infinity Edge is better imo. And you don't really need much Attack Damage as you dont scale very good and lifesteal isn't very needed either as your W Hiten Style and ulti Transcendent Blades heal enough.

This item is really really situational. Those times you get this item is when the enemy got like 80% physical damage or a really fed Tryndamere or Master Yi .

This item gives you sick damage is you just remember to activate the active ability which i always forget >.<. But if you can remember to activate it this item is the most cost efficient item in the game for physical damage dealers.

I don't use this item very often but the stats seems legit. If i would use it is if they got many health stackers Sejuani , Volibear etc. The problem for me is that you would rather build a Wriggle's Lantern as both build from Madred's Razors and because it cost so much i don't feel there is any room for it. But as i said if enemy team stack HP, it's viable imo.

And remember magic resist lower the percentage dmg as it deals magic damage %.

This item is kind of situational imo. I would not recommend having this item in a core item build because the only time i would buy this is when enemy team is stacking armor or you have to carry a game.

snowball item imo. It's good to lower armor on tanks. but as you as your job is to blow up Carries this won't be as effective as it would be on example: Vayne or Caitlyn etc.

I think these item are the viable ones if there are any more items you want to be posted let me know in the comment section below.

Skill Explanation

=A great passive. It give's you reduced CC duration the more people you got around you, so its a pretty straightforward passive, no need for deeper explanation.

=Your farming tool. This will be your early farming tool and in late game it will destroy squishy targets. One thing to note about this one is that is apply on-hit effects, so if you got any on-hit items like Wit's End or Madred's Bloodrazor they will proc on Bladesurge

=Your main ability. The sustain it gives early game is sick and the true damage is also incredible. Here's another thing to note that your Q Bladesurge apply on-hit effects so pop your W Hiten Style before using your Q Bladesurge.

=Your only CC. It's actually pretty good in lane if you go up to your opponent and stun them and start ripping their face off with your Q Bladesurge+W Hiten Style and i can almost promise you will come out ahead in a 1v1 situation if you do like this.

=A fkn sweet ultimate. Low cooldown, high damage and it heals you for a fair ammount. What else can a ultimate offer ? Remember, you can shoot this while moving normally.

Skill Sequence

I max out my W Hiten Style for the sick dmg and sustain it gives. Then i go for my E Equilibrium Strike cuz of dmg but mainly cuz of the stun/slow duration. I dont think its that important to have many ranks in q Bladesurge until later on because it apply on-hit-effects and your w counts as that same with Trinity Force and Wit's End . So you will be doin much dmg on it either way.

A possible way to go is maxing E but i find that useless cause W Hiten Style will give more sustain and if you strike the champion more then 4 times it will also deal more dmg at max rank. Maxing Q just seem waste to me as it scales so bad in ranks. Of course the cooldown gets lower but i don't think it's necessary.

Farming

Farming, as i said before this is VERY important for Irelia to be the beast she is.

Farming shouldn't be a very big problem though. You can farm pretty easily with you q Bladesurge, but dont overuse it.

NERF

Soo..... alot people is talking about this nerf that Irelia got. IMO it was not that big of a nerf as it only hurted her passive farming sustain and not her fighting sustain. OFC you will feel that
