Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
This is simply how I play Irelia. Hope you will like it, leave comments below on what to improve, we are all here to learn.
Runes & Masteries
Runes: I use the tanky dps runes as you can see, armor and magic resist so I cant be pushed off lane easily, together with armor penetration to maximize damage output.
Among all that I tried, these runes work the best for me.
Masteries: 0/9/21 is kinda unusual for melee, but after going through the pros and cons of each tree, the utility one comes out on top.
It offers a lot of mana regen, movement speed, xp gain, reduces CDs as she isnt really auto attack based and 15% off summoner skills is always handy.
The provided items offer a mix of great damage, attack and movement speed, while still providing resistances so you can endure focus.
Starting off with Cloth armor and 5 pots, you get good defensive stats early on so you can lane longer and safer.
First trip back is Madred's Razor and Mercury's Threads, the first item again providing armor and minion killing power, while the boots are self explanatory. Madred's can later on be built into Lantern or Bloodrazor, depending on how well you are doing and the enemy team.
Next purchases are Shen and Phage, following up with Trinity force. The item explains itself.
At this point team fights should happen, so we need to tank up, so getting Guardian Angel is of high importance, follow up with Wit's End for more MR, attack speed and the bonus 42 dmg on each hit is also nice and its also magic damage so you are harder to counter.
If the game still goes on, you should now be tanky enough and still deal high damage, but I like to finish off with Bloodthirster for more damage and lifesteal. Building Madred's Razor has priority tho, if the enemy team has high hp champions.
Skill Sequence & Summoner Spells
I like to max out E first, so you can surprise people with a 2 sec stun early on and punish them for being overly aggressive.
I take one rank of Q at the start, so farming is easier, as the CD is refreshed if the target dies, but then just leave it as it is till the final levels.
Also leveling up W will give you more time in lane and is a great fighting skill, since bonus true damage is always good to have.
Skill priority is R > E > W > Q.
As far as summoner spells go, I prefer Ghost + Ignite combo, as you already slow people with Trinity and E skill, but taking Flash + Ignite is an option as well. Some prefer Exhaust over Ignite too, but thats best discussed in the lobby, so each lane has one Exhaust and one Ignite.
One thing to keep in mind is, you shouldnt initiate team fights early on, since you're an easy target. After you're geared, feel free to do so, since you're quite hard to kill as it is.
Imo, Irelia is a great champ, all it takes is some practice to master her and carry games.

I realise the writing is not the best, but you really need to play and figure out your own playstyle and what suits you and not just copy someone.
