Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
Hello, I'm zyze, an season 1 platinum elo player from NA playing currently on EUNE and this is my first guide. In this guide we will we focusing on building irelia and how she plays as an antiadc bruiser. Irelia is known for being able to win games easily by snowballing the whole game, as she can shed out of CC almost instantly, wich makes her the best adc catcher in the game. This is my first guide so please don't judge too hard :)
Irelia deals all types of damage in the game (Physical, Magic, True), but her main damage is physical and both Blade Surge (Q) and Transcendent Blades (R) benefit from ARP, so I recommend taking flat arp marks, armor seals, magic resist glyphs and attack speed quintessences to maximize the overall damage of your irelia and also giving her a bit more sustain since she gets to swing more W with attack speed.
Pros / Cons
Can snowball very hard into lategame
Decent crowd contol
Easy to farm with if not countered
Tanky and easily sustainable
Can catch ad carries extremely fast
Can be countered hard laning phase
Melee attack range
No actual escape
Knockback limits her actions in teamfights since tenacity does not work agaisnt it.
There's not much to say about masteries, this is the usual Irelia mastery page setup and it improves about all of her stats wich really helps laning phase and %increase scales well for lategame.
The above build is the usual build I end up with. If thinking in general every item of irelia should give one of these; magic resist, armor, health. Wit's End is a great boost for hitten style and also gives magic resist. Wit's End is also one of the best items in the game against ability power heavy teams. Casters usually are running low magic resist before 8k gold mark, so building an Wit's end early agaisnt an caster/AP heavy team is not a bad idea. Having a guardian angel forces the enemy team not to ignore you and causes terror lategame agaisnt the enemy team.
For summoner spells I use Flash and Ignite to dominate laning phase and also to later on kill important targets faster. If you want to passive farm and join dragon fights take Flash + Teleport , but never go with both teleport and ignite; these two spells don't have any synergy since teleport is for passive lane and ignite for aggressive and you will also get mass ganked by the jungler and due to that, won't be able to do much in dragon fights. For some reason people have been recently starting to use this kind of summoner spell setups.
After getting advandage in the lane with irelia you will start to dominate. If you feel like the enemy is squishy, feel free to take sheen fast. With sheen you can use "W" and oneshot caster creep with Q and close the gap by using Q again on the enemy champion. If you are achieving to kill the enemy laner multiple times and your creeps start pushing tower before 15/20 minutes a good tactic is to go behind enemy turret to tank and kill the enemy creeps and if the laner challenges you, poke back. The following tactic should be mixed with your map awareness and having a ward in the trybush so things don't go badly wrong :P. Also you can still farm with your ulti even tho phreak dissagrees.
Well irelia has tons of counters for laning phase, but is able to beat almost any of them by getting a slight advandage. So I will just list general counters that are most known. Don't pick irelia agaisnt these until you are 100% sure you can beat them.
I guess this was my guide :). I was feeling kinda lazy so I decided not to make a long guide(I might update this more later), but this guide has the basics of irelia and more.
