Introduction

Introduction

Hello everyone and welcome to my Nunu & Willump guide. This is my first guide on Mobafire and I'm hoping you guys like it. Nunu is a very strong champion able to fulfill almost every single role in the current Meta (excluding AD carry.) You, however, will be playing him solo top so that we can shut down their solo top while being fed yourself. Please do not forget to Upvote, Comment, and +Rep

Edit: Wow! In the first week I'm already in the top 10 Nunu & Willump. Thanks to everyone that voted and commented!

Skill Rundown

  • : Hmm. Every 7th autoattack you get a free spell? THAT'S FREAKIN' AMAZING. One of the best passives in the game imho.
  • : Get back almost all of your health lost and instantly kill just about any minion early game? Count me in!
  • : This skill is just simply amazing for Teamfights. It's the equivalent of giving your AD carry a Phantom Dancer.
  • : This is your bread and butter skill. Amazing scaling (1:1, that's just amazing), high slow, low cooldown. What more could you ask for?
  • : And then there's this. One of the best spells in the entire game, highest damage at max level, best scaling, amazing slow. Only weakness is it's susceptible to cc but using this in the bush helps immensely. More info on this skill later.

Skill Sequence

> > >

You should max first for more damage and slow early game.
Next you should max for more sustain in lane.
After that max for teamfights, pushing towers, and movespeed.
You should also take whenever you can at levels 6, 11, and 16.

Runes

For this build I go for Magic Penetration while still being tanky and fast.
  • Greater Mark of Magic Penetration: I chose these marks because they make all of your abilities hit much harder. After getting wrecked by your enemies will most likely build MR.
  • Greater Seal of Armor: As solo-top, many of your matchups will do physical damage. This helps your sustain early in the game.
  • Greater Glyph of Replenishment: Early game you are mana-hungry if you are constantly using on minions for health. This helps in all aspects.
  • Greater Quintessence of Ability Power: With A 1:1 Scaling on Ice Blast this helps with early game damage. With Masteries this starts you out with 19 AP. You will be doing about 100 damage with this at level 1.

Summoner Spells

Summoner Spells

:Essentially your get of jail free card. Great for escaping over walls and catching up with an opponent for a last minute .

:Great for backdooring which Nunu & Willump excels at. Also good for getting back to the lane quickly when having to recall. Can be used for dragon fights if your support wards it.

Items

Spawn

For items I start out with boots and 3 health potions. This allows for early game movespeed and that extra bit of sustain to help you stay in lane longer. However if you are playing against a champion who doesn't have quite as much damage early feel free to take Doran's.
First Time Back

After 1400 gold, the amount you need for items, buy catalyst the protectorCatalyst the Protector and a sight wardSight Ward. We are getting catalyst the protectorCatalyst because it benefits you in everyway and also builds into Rod of Ages, or Banshee's, both extremely good items on Nunu & Willump.
Second Time Back

Once you go back, finish your Merc Treads, or if they lack cc, Sorc Shoes. If you have about 1710 gold to spare go ahead and finish your Rod of Ages. This item is extremely strong on Nunu & Willump due to its high HP and MP boosts which help Nunu & Willump be tanky while still doing insane amounts of damage with your skills.
Mid-Game
All right, it's midgame. A few towers are destroyed and small skirmishes are breaking out across the map. What do you build? Now is when you look at their comp and how well you are doing.

[*] Do they have a lot of AD?: If so buy a Zhonya's.
[*] Do they have high AP? If so feel free to buy an early Banshee's.
[*] Are you fed? If so buy a Deathcap or a Rylai's.
[*] Are they stacking MR? If so buy a Void Staff

Late Game

Towers are falling left and right, teamfights are going on, vying for objectives. You need to keep up with the action. What do you buy? Refer back to Mid-game list first. You can also start getting Aura items for your team to help in Teamfights, and your support will love you forever. Some support items you could buy are, Zeke's HeraldZeke's Herald, Aegis of the Legion, Shurelya's, and also Locket of the Iron Solari.

Early Game

Okay, so you are in the game. Pick up your boots and 3 pots. Head on over to your jungler's position. If he is on the opposite side of the map leave at 1:30. If he is on the same side of the map as top feel free to grab first and give him one of the best leashes in the game. After you return to top lane you can either keep pacing around the minions so you're not auto-attacking or tap 's' to stop moving and only attack a minion to get the last hit. This prevents your lane from pushing to the enemy tower, thereby leaving you susceptible to ganks. Every 7 cs (creepscore) feel free to launch an Ice Blast at your laning opponent's face. Keep doing this and eventually you will force him to retreat, causing him to miss cs and subsequently gold. Or you can cause him to go back to base causing him to lose experience AND cs.

If the enemy laner harasses you simply launch a snowball in his face and Consume a minion to heal back up. Rinse and repeat until you either; a.)Can get a kill b.)Have your jungler gank and get a kill c.) buy your next item.

Mid Game

The first tower has fallen, marking the beginning of Mid-Game in most cases. Keep farming top lane and hopefully you are fed by now. If you are fed, gank mid and bottom lane to give them extra help. If you are not fed just keep wards down top so you aren't able to get ganked and just keep farming so that you can keep up in items. Make sure you take advantage of Dragon and Baron while keeping both warded, you can also ward enemy red and blue so that you can counter-jungle safely.

Late Game

You and your team should be traveling in 5-man gank squads trying to catch somebody out of position if you get 2 or more of them dead feel free to take an objective whether it be Baron, Dragon, or Towers. In teamfights is where Nunu & Willump shines. Cast Blood Boil on your AD carry and permaslow whoever gets in range with Ice Blast. Once both teams commit run into the middle of the action and use along with to prevent them from disrupting it. Unless your team is extremely out of position or they are underfarmed this should win most team fights.

Using Absolute Zero

Absolute Zero

Absolute Zero is in my opinion one of the strongest ultimates in the game, it certainly hits the hardest. With 1125 base damage at max level and one of the highest scalings in the game (250% your ability power) it certainly hits the hardest. It also can be used for utility with a 50% movespeed decrease and a 25% attack speed decrease at all levels this ultimate is great for teamfights. The following video shows how to position yourself for a succesful ultimate.

P.S: R.I.P headphone users.

Warding

  • Yellow: Vital to protect your jungler.
  • Blue: For lane protection.
  • Red: In order to protect Dragon and Baron.
  • Orange: In order to counter-jungle safely.
