I admit to being a gold ***** and try to get a PS first than give Eye of the Storm a kick in early game (before level 6) with Lucky Pick (sell off in late game) sometimes I do and sometimes I don't pick up HoG, depending on how smooth the game is going.
Also I think you will need at least 1 gold/10 because it will help your gold income. Just one is enough ;P
+1 for a nice and well explained guide. ^^
Getting gold/10 items is really a must, however, make sure you get at least one.
I agree with the other guy that a gold per 5 item would be really useful.
I did have a game the other day where we were behind from the beginning and I did not get the assist farm that I needed, which gave me poor items throughout the game. I will agree that in such situations it is not worth sticking to the core, and GP10 will have the best effect in order to catch up with the enemy team. However, when things are going well and you get the game that you want (even though you are not dominating), there really is no need for buying GP10 items unless you insist on going for Shureliya's Reverie for instance. There is no need to delay your core if - the same reason you would not buy it for a carry. A few games where I don't see the need for GP10:
I like the build, however since you're buildning Soul Shroud, you can start off with a Mana Manipulator if your lane mate uses mana and needs an extra boost of +7.2 mp5 to deal even more damage. I lane Janna with my friend sometimes, and the mp5 really helps him ;)
Actually, I was already thinking of testing it, but I'm not sure if it is worth it as you cannot bring wards or potions with it from start. Sure your lane mate will gain from it, but then you are much vulnerable to harass and are most likely forced back to base quite early. If your lane mate knows how to use his spells in moderation and not drain his mana completely the first few levels (which most people are used to as you rarely get on lane with a Mana Manipulator from beginning), then it is not that needed. So instead I was thinking that you could go with the 2x Faerie Charm and either 3x Health Potion or 1x Health Potion and 1x Sight Ward for good support, and then when it comes to the point when your lane partner really could use the mana aura, you return to base and get Boots and Mana Manipulator and additional wards.
Other than that it is a good guide with lots of explanations why you do the things you do.
I like it.

(really annoying that I cant do this in another way...)
Skill Sequence: nothing to say, I agree to that.
Items:
- Deathfire Grasp! Best support item ever, instantly takes away 1/3 of the enemy's hp and your allies will have an easy time killing him. Also allows you to take my beloved Sorcerer's Shoes :)
- Rabadon's Deathcap! A real must-have on any AP based character, so also supports.
Masteries: fine :)
- gp/10 items are surely worth it, they have such low cost compared to what they give. Don't forget you get gold returned when you sell them, so actually they are great.
Runes: mp/5... *hate* Totally not worth it, I'd prefer AP or CDR runes. Also the health quints are marginal, I'd prefer magic pen or AP.
But, not bad at all, upvoted! :)
