Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
I dedicate this build to all Janna players from beginners to experts.I would also like to say that my build is not perfect and it will all depend on how you play with it in the different situations of the game.
Pros and Cons of playing Janna
- Excellent support
- Quick farmer with Howling Gale
- Severe slower
- Good movement speed to chase or escape
- Strong spells
- Can be hard to master
- Very squishy if targeted
- Abilities require great skills and timing to be done right
Howling Gale: (Active): By creating a localized change in pressure and temperature, Janna is able to create a small storm that grows in size with time. She can active the spell again to release the storm. On release this storm will fly towards the direction it was cast in, dealing damage and knocking away any enemies in its path. The distance traveled by the whirlwind increases for each second it channels.
Cooldown: 14 / 13 / 12 / 11 / 10
Cost: 90/105/120/135/150 Mana
Damage: 60 / 85 / 110 / 135 / 160 (+0.75 per ability power)
Info: This skill is one of your main damaging and escaping skills along with Zephyr. It also works great for pushing and also provides aoe damage as well. Though it can be easy to target minions with this, in order to hit champions, this skill requires you to aim and predict their movements because they will try to dodge it while the gale charges up.
Zephyr: (Passive): Janna summons an air elemental that passively increases her movement speed and enables her to pass through units.(Active): Janna launches her elemental to deal damage and slow an enemy's movement speed for 4 seconds.
Cooldown: 12 / 11 / 10 / 9 / 8
Cost: 40/50/60/70/80 Mana
Damage: 60 / 115 / 170 / 225 / 280 (+0.8 per ability power)
Slow: 24 / 30 / 36 / 42 / 48 %
Info: Zyphyr is would be Janna's slow skill and it also does great damage too. You can use this skill to harass early game and combine it with howling gale if they chase you. Overall, its main use is to slow your enemies for you and your team to chase or is just for you to escape your enemies.
Eye of the Storm: (Active): Janna conjures a defensive gale that shields her target from incoming damage while increasing their physical damage for 5 seconds (can target Turrets).
Cooldown: 10 seconds
Cost: 70/80/90/100/110 Mana
Damage Shielded: 80 / 120 / 160 / 200 / 240 (+0.9 per ability power)
Info: This ability is Janna's defense skill and it also increases the target attack damage as well.It works on you, your allies, and also on towers when your holding a lane. When laning with a range dps hero like Ashe or Teemo, it would be best if you spam this on them to increase their damage in harassing. If you lane with a tank, just use this to help them survive damage. If your solo, which is what i always love to do, then i don't recommended getting this skill early.
Monsoon: (Active): Janna surrounds herself in a magical storm throwing enemies back. After the storm has settled, soothing winds heal nearby allies while the ability is active. Enemies that re-enter the storm have their movement speed slowed by 40%.
Cooldown: 120 seconds
Cost: 200/275/350 Mana
Heal per second: 90 / 150 / 210 (+0.35 per ability power)
Info: This ability would be Janna's ultimate and it is one of the main reasons why Janna is known as a support hero. Its main effect is to heal all nearby teammates near you which can decide which team wins the fight depending on your timing of this skill. It also has a second effect that pushes your enemies away and slow them if they go back into the circle. This second effect can be useful in team fights when you could use it to separate enemy champions apart and let your team kill them one by one.
Tailwind - Increases the movement speed of all allied champions by 3%.
How my build works:
First, lets talk about the build above such as mastery trees, skill sequence, runes and item purchases.
As you can see, i put 9 points in offense just to mainly get the 15% magic penetration and this will help your spells do damage. Mainly for the late games where all the tanks have already got lots of magic defense. Now as you look to the left, i put 21 points in utility. All of this is mainly to help you with mana/heath regeneration, some move speed, and also 21% cooldown reduction of your skills which will help you spam your skills in the game.
On to skill sequence, which should be follow as provided but if this order doesn't seem to fit the game's situation, i would recommend you switching it around a bit. First, at lvl 1 , get howling gale which will help you gank in the grass and if solo , then just get zyphyr first then gale. Next, it would be time to try and max out zephyr to harass and gank other lanes. Then get your ult and then onto eye of the storm. You might be wondering why i put eye of the storm last, this is because you don't really need it until mid or late game where its more effective with Janna high ability power and there is more team fights. If your team complains about this, pshh let them die :D
For runes, i mainly focused on ability power but there is some magic penetration and mana regen as well. There is about 30 ability power, 2 mana regen and 4 magic penetration. These three will aid your stats and help you kill through out the game.
When it comes to items, it is important that you follow the order until you get the two item rod of ages and swift boots. They will help you greatly on your survival early on in the game. Then onto ability power items like mejai soulstealer which is great since you get lots of support kills and kills themselves. Then get Zhonza which will boost your Ap tremendously and can save your life with its effect.By mid or late game, you should make a void staff to penetrate those tank's magic defense. If the game ever get to Rylai's sceptor, then this is just an item to add heath, extra ap and slow to your spells.
Example of how you should play this build throughout the game;
Game's two given spells:Ignite to finish off kills in your lane or ganks.Flash to combine it with Zyphyr for a jump slow in chases or Monsoon so you can have a place to cast it on. It can also be use to just escape enemies.
In the beginning, i personally loves to have a solo lane because i wont need to get eye of the storm early and there is only 1 enemy champion to harass and worry about. For items, you can buy a doran ring for some better stats and a heath pots for times in need. Now, when your in the lane and the action begins, i would play very aggressive and harass with spells unlike most Janna players but this is how my build works. To do this, just hit them with zyphyr and run. If they chase you, add a howling gale to it for some extra damage and stop them. While harassing can get you early hero kills, you should also remember to farm up on minions with howling gale for extra gold so you can buy rod of ages as early as possible.
Summary: Play aggressive, smart ,and also remember to farm.
By now, you should have a mejai soulstealer in the inventory with the boots and rod of ages. This is the time where you should go gank other lanes such as bot or top or mid if your not in a solo lane. Hide in the grass and ping out which hero to kill and then strike strike them with zephyr. Now go and put Eye of the storm on the dps hero so they can deal more demage. Soon after that, add a howling gale to the combo and aim carefully at where they are running. Ignite and flash should be used in ganking if necessary. You can combine your ult and flash if they run too far and push them back. If the ganking is successful, then it would be wise to help your allies push that lane. With some kills and support, the majai soulstealer should be building up stacks which mean its time to make a zhonya to get even more ability power.
Summary: Mid game is mainly for gaining ability power, ganking, and helping push lanes.
By late game, your spells are starting to deal less damage and buying a void staff will help raise it back. With all those ability power(around 300-500) still on you, i would recommend switching to become a support because it is important that you help your carries and tanks around this time. It is not important to farm or gank anymore but you should mainly focus on helping the team fight or push. Spam Eye of the storm on dps/tanks to help them survive and save Monsoon for the right moment because at this time, all fights are crucial to be won. By doing all of this, you can ensure you and your team a good win.
Summary: Turn from playing aggressive to being a good support for your team. Spam eye of the storm or Monsoon and help the team in team fights, lane pushes, or even to kill baron.
Please note that this is just an example of how a game might go with this build. There can be many interferences such as dieing too much or having a bad team.
This would be the end of of my build and I would like to thank you for reading it. If you have any questions or concerns about my guide on Janna, please be more than welcome to add me in the game. My IGN is Synto. Other than that, i hope my build works for you and help you win many games =)
