Introduction to Jarvan IV...

Hello everybody. My name is PatalacX and I main Jarvan IV.
I tank him, and sometimes I mix it up with a little bit of
jungle fever.
Over all he is a great tank.
This is my first guide and I hope it works for all of you who decide to be the big J4.

Pros / Cons

Pros!

Great overall damage.
Tanks like a baws.
Ult can catch out of position champions.
Dat pop up
Is a prince.


Cons!
Ult is a total jerk to teammates if you use it unproperly.
Can throw early game
Just not shiny enough...

Masteries

Armor masteries are the basic necessities of any tank. Magic resist fot that pesky AP carry in mid. Armor for about everyone else. Simple like a triple.

Items

The item build for Jarvan is pretty basic. It depends on the team you are up against. If they have an AD carry that is going to town on your team and getting fed,


If they seem to have their mid going insane it's pretty obvious you need to start build


Same thing goes with boots. AD CC (Stuns, snares, AP, etc...0



I would have to say everything else is pretty NASUSary...

Abilities

Martial Cadence is your passive. It gives you a boost into your early damage. Say you rush up to an enemy and smack him with an auto attack. Your passive will kick in and deal a percentage of their health (capping at 400). It helps out with the harassing in lane and in team fights even.

Dragon Strike is your Q. It is the second part of your combo. It has a great deal of range, giving you that little poke if you catch my drift, Use it after your E so you can perform your popup on the target to help out with ganks, 1v1s, and team fights. Just might give you the edge.

Golden Aegis is your W. It is not only your shield but is also your slow! I don't know if you guys/girls just read a guide then follow it exactly (The build, skill sequence, runes and all) but you need to read as well (Which is what your doing right now :D ). This as well helps with ganks but not too much. The shield is not as great as Udyr's in which it's up every 4 seconds, but it helps.

Demacian Standard is your E. It does damage and gives you a nice deal of armor in its passive. I LOVE IT. FIRST IN YOUR COMBO. As i've said in the dragon strike ability section, use your E first. If you q then e, you will look like a fool! NO POPUPS FOR YOU. Always do your best to popup when you are getting a gank or teamfight or if you're getting away use it as an escape. THINK SITUATIONAL.

Cataclysm is your R. MY GOD IF YOU CATCH YOUR TEAMMATE IN THIS THING AND THEY DIE, YETI WILL FIND YOU. Your ult can be prevented by ghost... I've learned that they can run straight out of it... PRETTY LAME. Flash also prevents this but that's obvious. Kassadin's ult, Katarina's shunpo, actually Amumu can bandage toss out of it, etc... WHEN YOU USE YOUR ULT YOU HAVE HAVE HAVE TO YELL DEMACIA! (IRL)

Skill Sequence

The reason I take my over my Is because Jarvan's passive is granted to nearby allies for eight seconds as well as yourself if you just used it. It also give bonus armor and attack speed to Jarvan.

Now I see alot of people maxing E, which is fine and all, but I guess it's all about preference. Obviously I prefer armor and damage rather than just damage.

Summoner Spells

Summoner spells... I normally take the above spells. Both are for catching up to the enemy and both can be very helpful in your early game attempt to get your lane fed. After all Jarvan's early game is his weakest. You can also run instead of ghost. But ghost and shurelya's is always hilarious.

Using your ult to HELP

NEVER TRAP TEAMMATES IN YOUR ULT IF THEY ARE RUNNING FOR THEIR LIVES.



If a teammate is being chased by, say 3 enemies, try to pop all 3 up and use your w to slow them, then catch all 3 in your ult and throw your e then q out of it or flash out if you took it. I've done it plenty and it most of the times I save my teammate.

Conclusion of Jarvan IV...

Now that we've gone over the basics hopefully you will understand even more on what Jarvan IV is capable of. Towers? ARMOR. AD Carry? THORNMAIL.. Etc... If you ever ult... YOU MUST MUST MUST YELL DEMACIA!
