Introduction

Hi, this is my first time ever posting a build.

Jarvan IV is a very fun champion to play. The first time I played him was in bot lane. His unique abilities make his zoning abilities amazing, but without a ranged dps he often has trouble finishing anyone in lane. If you want to lane jarvan, go ahead, but i often have to fill the role of jungling, and his flag ability helps him greatly in the jungle.

Runes

Runes are completely debatable. I use armor pen reds, armor yellows, and mana regen per lvl blues. The mana regen is nice because it prevents you from having to recall all the time. Quints are what ever you choose.

Masteries

I choose tank spec rather than havoc because i like to get out of the jungle with a little more health for ganks, but if you want to play havoc go ahead.

Items

I've played both pure dps Jarvan and pure tank Jarvan and decided neither is as effective as hybrid.

My build is pretty simple

I only have two true damage items, but i have BV and Sunfire to feed atma's. You should end with around 200 ad, decent attack speed, and over 200 of each resistance.

Of course you need to change the build if you have ad/ap heavy teams. This is just a general blue print for a balanced team. Needless to say if they have someone like jax or yi along with someone like both ashe or mf who's getting fed, you might want to sway something for thornmail.

Skill Sequence

This is controversial, i like the passive attack speed with razor so i max the flag first, but if find if you're in a lane you might focus more on Q and W.

Summoner Spells

I like flash on him just because it's a get out of jail free card, but if you want something like ghost instead then so be it.

Smite makes your jungling not take 20 minutes, but if you're laning almost anything besides heal, revive, or clarity can be substituted.

Summary

Just remember that as a melee dps champ and because of your abilities you're going to be constantly facechecking enemies. Building him as a glass cannon or a lifesteal tank means a single stun will be your downfall.
