Nice guide, first time when I did Jarvan IV solotop as Off-Tank I made late pentakill! That was awesome. Well I its not 100% from your build guide, swapped Banshee's Veil for Warmog's Armor so I have more chances to live and Atma's Impaler gains more Attack Damage bonus if I build Warmog's Armor (I know then I dont have alot Magic resist but doesnt matter cos Ability Power Carries die so fast) (;

Please explain how an Atma will help you do an extra 60-70 damage when it only deals an additional 1.5% of your health. In your first build, you have ~3600 health, and 1.5% of that equals only 54AD, not 60-70, and you have even less health in your second build which only decreases the amount of damage you will do. Needs to be fixed.

Hello Crazieshado,

Since I've followed your guide on item build - Masteries, I still following my own runes:

- marks: 9/9 0.95 Attack damage
- Seals: 9/9 1.41 armor
- Glyphs: 9/9 magic resist

This happend after look up on your build :D!.

This guide is solid, well prepared and looks really clear.

Really loved the focus on Trinity force, and the full explanation on how good this item is for Jarvan.

I never built it on him, and now, thanks to this guide, i know it was a big mistake.

I really like your guide on how you can play him as both tank and offtank. However I did find a problem with your skill order for tank, you have 6 points for Dragon Strike and only 4 for Golden Aegis. Otherwise it's very well done, keep up the good work.

In your "A Note on Offtanking and Why It's Practical" section, you made a mistake. Well, kind of. You mention how stacking resistances isn't practical since the %damage mitigated decreases as you increase resistances. This is correct, but misleading. It is in fact the case that for every point of resistance a stat is increased, your effective health increases by a constant amount. Therefore, for a tank, or any champ for that matter, there is no "sweet spot."

I see that everyone recommends 09/21/00 masteries (defense), I've tested it out on Irelia when she was F2P as well as on Gangplank and to be honest I really hated those, and that's why I'm actually playing jungle/solotop jarvan as 21/09/00.

Can you tell me if this is sort of viable or if I'm doing something very wrong ? I've got a feeling this isnt too bad, but seeing guide writers recommending 09/21/00 every single time sort of makes me wonder whether I just need to get used to these defense masteries.

Thanks in Advance,

Nash

Thanks for reading my guide! I figure most people just snag a look at the item builds before playing. Anyways, about your question, it's definitely viable to run 21/9/0 on Jarvan. Anyone who would insist upon only using any one set of masteries is somewhat dense and stubborn, and I think that as long as it feels right, any reasonable tree is viable. I've been using 21/9/0 myself sometimes too. Coupled with life steal quints and a doran's blade, it can be an excellent aggressive opening with (conditional) sustain.

Hey, I've been playing Jarvan quite a lot lately and even though I don't get many kills nor a really good k/d ratio, I still do feel like I'm very useful to my team. I'm mainly playing him as a jungler, I sometimes solotop if noone else wants to do it.

I see that everyone recommends 09/21/00 masteries (defense), I've tested it out on Irelia when she was F2P as well as on Gangplank and to be honest I really hated those, and that's why I'm actually playing jungle/solotop jarvan as 21/09/00.

Very nice build, almost similar to how I build Jarvan IV myself.
Note: I based my build off this one and it works great ;)

But anyways, I go with a FoN due to the lack of MR and at the same time you will have very bad regen (and no lifesteal!) with Banshee's. It feeds your atma's, true, but overall I find FoN great on Jarvan.

Nice Build, but do you think flat Magic Resist Blues would work instead of Per Lv.

They work for sure, and I used to use them as well, but the thing is, following my Purchase Order in the build, at the end of the game you're a bit short for mres, so I make up for some of it with that. Also, mres/lvl become better than flats pretty soon, so I find that while the early game difference is negligible, I get quite a bit more by endgame.

Mmm, I think you underestimate the power of the Randuin's passive. The active is also really powerful in teamfights, and I basically consider it a staple however I build Jarvan. My 2nd build is a bit lacking in mres, yes, but I would rather switch Wit's End for a more mres-oriented item than lose my Randuin's. A GA is definitely a legitimate idea though.

On the second build, I would take the 1 extra AD and put it into the move speed mastery instead. Move speed is so much better. :)

I like the masteries on the second build but not so much the build itself.

If you want to build a DPS style of Jarvan, I'd recommend using Youmuu's/Triforce/Infinity Edge core. I'd also get a GA, because you're bound to die. There's a reason people don't do it xP It's not very great.

Jarvan even as full tank is liable to die when he initiates.

Good guide, everything I could praise about this has already been said by the people above me, so I'll stick with things you can improve.

Use BB codes to help break up the walls of text, and constantly using the same color can be distracting. The Black Cleaver turns into The Black Cleaver by
Code:
[[The Black Cleaver]]

Or either into by
Code:
[icon=The Black Cleaver size=40]
(the size can vary, with 60 being the highest).

Otherwise, great explanation. Adding a third section for jungling will improve your guide even more, allowing you to get those votes! :)

P.S Check my guide out (in sig), and tell me what you think ^^

Definitely appreciate the help, I was actually trying to figure how to do that. I'll still be working on the build for sure. As far as a Jungle section goes, I do believe I touched on the fact that I wasn't well informed on the topic and would rather not misguide people. However, I have been looking into jungling and will add/update that section if I feel that my information will be valuable.

@CookieMunzta Seriously, dude? If you're going to downvote me at least find a legitimate reason to do it.

I think that this is a great guide, and your build is pretty solid. However, even as an off tank I would still go for the 21 Defensive Masteries. Your only tanky item is Mercury's Treads, and you're leaving your Golden Aegis skill for last. It would also be awesome if you had a 3rd section for Jungle Jarvan.

hmm... Good stuff. Lots of explination, however, instead of saying, take some farm, or take more farm, explain. Same with how you gank and what you should do in teamfights. Describe exactly what you are supposed to do.

Good build anyways.
