Choose Champion Build:

  • LoL Champion: Jarvan IV
  • LoL Champion: Jarvan IV

Introduction

Well, I'm back again with my 3rd Jarvan build, mostly because my first two builds weren't that highly successful and because I believe that this one works a bit better. To be completely honest, I first thought of trying this after looking at EvilDice's #1 rated Renekton guide, and thought it might work well on Jarvan. And surprise, surprise it worked. But I wasn't fully satisfied, so I tweaked it a bit. What I have up top is what I usually bring with me, but I will put more builds in below.

About Jarvan

Jarvan is a unique champion, with a nice combination of cc mixed with damage. He is best known for his ultimate , and his airborne combo.

Pros-
tanky
nice damage
can stop kiting with
nice knocked airborne combo with +
nice damage output late game

Cons-
damage output early game is limited
VERY low mana pool
weak shield
needs good lane partner for full effect
item dependent
range is shorter than the skill shot icon shows

Runes

Marks-
For my marks I use 9 Greater Mark of Desolation. These are your standard dps/ad runes and are fairly self-explanatory. For those that are new to the game, these marks give you a total of 14.94 armor penetration, which is a nice amount when you start the game.

Glyphs-
For my glyphs I like to use all . Each of these gives a cooldown reduction of .65% each, giving a grand total of -5.85% cdr. While this does not seem like much at first, you must take into account that it is in percentage, so his ult's cd is normally 120 sec at rank 1, the runes reduce it to ~113 sec.

Seals-
Generally, out of all the seals I posses, I favor using my Greater Seal of Replenishment. There is one simple reason behind this, and that reason is because Jarvan has a horrible mana pool that doesn't really build well after each level. With 9 of these runes you will gain 3.69 mana every 5 sec, which doesn't seem like much but helps. With more mana you can spam your abilities more.

Quintessences-
Boy do I hate that word, it's long, awkward, and hard to spell. But I love what these bad boys do for you. Each Greater Quintessence of Desolation grants a whopping 3.33 Arm Pen each. Totaling at 24.93 Arm Pen with the Marks. Most champions start with 30 armor if they don't get something like , so by taking away all but 5 armor you will do a nice amount of damage.

Masteries

Pretty standard ad/dps masteries, with the 8 in defense to make you a bit more tanky. I find that more often the metagame has shifted to the point that you don't need a tank in your team to win, that several tanky dps champs will be viable enough to yield a victory

Skill Sequence

Yes, I am aware that currently most people start with and max that out first. But from personal experience I have found that maxing first gives me more damage output, and the armor reduction from hitting an enemy with it works well to cancel out the rest of the enemy's armor with those runes. Because and work so well together I tend to grab the standard second and again at level 8. This gives me and my ally a nice atk spd boost, along with the very nice knocked airborne combo that Jarvan is known for. The shield is weak compared to the shields of other tanks/tanky dps champs with a shield, and the slow isnt much, so I prioritize this last. As with every other champion, your ultimate takes the most priority, because of the awesome damage and epic terrain changes that are unique to Jarvan.

Second Item Build

I first used this build in my first game as jarvan the day he came out, and I did pretty well. I really tried this because I noticed how dry his mana pool was, and thought why not build ad off of the mana I was planning on buying. Then I realized, I'm a bit too squishy, and added some armor and health. Then the same thought that gave me the mana went towards health and I threw in an Atma's, which worked decently. Unfortunately I haven't really used this build lately and will start again to see if it was beginner's luck or if it really works at all. I will also try replacing the with a simply because I love what that item does for Jarvan and want to see some more damage.
