Chapter 1
When it comes to killing creeps and destroying towers, this build will do better than average. Of course, this build is also good for team fights and co-operative ganking. The runes are copied from the excellent "Dodge, Dodge, Killing Spree!" Jax build, which I also recommend checking out. As for spells, I personally run Heal and Teleport for the utility, but you can use Exhaust instead of Teleport if you choose to do so.
I personally pick up Empower first, to aid with farming and harassing. Afterwards, I learn Leap Strike and Counter Strike, leveling up Relentless Assault whenever it's available. The skill you should max out first is Empower, since it's going to be your main source of burst damage. Afterwards, level up Leapstrike, then Counter Strike.
Perhaps the most important advice I can give to Jax players is to be patient and pick your battles. Don't initiate fights unless you're absolutely certain that you can win. Jax is an assassin and a fighter, meaning that he's at his best in group fights that have already started, when no one notices him in the middle of the fight until it's too late. Also, remember that while Jax typically isn't very good early in the game, he starts getting better mid-game, and he becomes a force of nature once the end-game rolls around and he gets his items. So if you're doing lousy at the start of the game, just remember; it gets better later.
It makes me sad that there doesn't seem to be many good Jax players in this game in proportion to his popularity. I hope to share some of my experience with anyone who's interested in learning Jax. As a champion that's easy to learn, but tough to master, playing Jax can be incredibly rewarding. Hopefully, my advice will help somebody become indispensable to their team. As always, I'm open to advice, feedback, and constructive criticism. If you want to add me to your LoL friends list, my summoner name is Dan Highland. See you on the Fields of Justice!
