Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
Welcome to my Jax guide! This is a guide about how I typically play Jax and my advice on how you should play as him also. There are three ways to play as Jax: tank, AP, and DPS. I have tried the AP and it isn't that bad of a build for Jax, but it is nowhere close to as good as the DPS build. Keep in mind that I probably have a different playing style for Jax than you do so this build might not be for you. Also, there are many different way to build a DPS Jax... so feel free to edit the build some in your own way and also please comment on this guide about your personal build so I and many others may try it out.
Summoner spells for Jax aren't too important at the end of the game, but can have a huge impact at the beginning. I personally love to go with Heal and Exhaust because Heal is a lifesaver and Exhaust is a summoner spell that actually does help you at the end of the game.
Masteries can really piss you off, but they can make a huge impact on your game. I personally like to go 21/9/0 to get the Attack build up for DPS and Defense masteries to help with dodge (necessary for Counter Strike).
I won't spend a lot of time talking about runes, although I may update this guide in the future for some more info on runes. Just try to get attack and dodge up.
For the second section of the build, I will talk about items. The items I picked for Jax are pure DPS.
Ninja Tabai: This is the only item on my build that doesn't directly help with DPS, but it does give you dodge % which helps with your Counter Strike (stun).
Zeal/Phantom Dance: Zeal/Phantom Dancer gives you some much need attack speed, crit %, dodge %, and as an added bonus, movement speed!
Vampiric Scepter/Bloodthirster/Malady: For life steal you have a choice. There is Bloodthirster which when it has all of its attack damage stacks gives you 100dmg, and there is Malady which gives you 50% attack speed and some damage against champions. This is purely your choice but more recently I have been going with Malady.
Infinity Edge: This one should be pretty obvious. Lots of attack damage and crits deal 250% damage instead of 200% now.
Madred's Bloodrazors/The Black Cleaver/Sword of the Divine: Pick 2/3 of these items. Madred's Bloodrazers gives some attack speed, but what I really like about it is that it adds 4% of the target's health to your attack damage. The Black Cleaver gives attack damage and armor penetration. Sword of the Divine gives a lot of attack speed and on every 4 strikes, your next attack does a 100 extra damage... so it's like another ulti! It also has an ability where it doesn't allow the enemy to dodge... perfect when you are playing against another Jax.
Time for the abilities! Jax's abilities are extremely useful and are able to be used in many situations.
Leap Strike: This is mainly for catching up to enemy champions and very rarely, initiating a fight (I say very rarely because usually the tank will initiate the fight and Jax is NOT going to be a tank in this build). I try to level this first, although you may want to level up Counter Strike first.
Empower: Since the last patch, Empower has been improved A LOT! It now does an 20% of your attack damage and ability power with an additional 40/60/80/100/120 magic damage. You will want to level this whenever you can't level up Leap Strike.
Counter Strike: My favorite ability. Stun. That's all there is too it. That and the passive to the ability which increases your dodge % by 10%. Although it is Jax's best ability, in my opinion, you will want to level it last because the stun duration only lasts one second.
Relentless Assault: This is an awesome ulti. It's a passive ulti (which is unheard of) and doesn't require any mana. It increases your attack speed every hit and does (I quote) "devastating damage every third strike". A truly amazing ulti.
I hope you enjoyed reading my first ever guide! Please leave comments about how you play Jax and some tips for other players. Also feel free to correct me on any part of the guide! I just want to say thanks! And thank you for reading my guide on how to play Jax: The God of Killing.
Note: I will update the guide on gameplay for Jax and some further information about the build.
