Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
Hi ^^ I'm Røxas and welcome to my very first guide. English isn't my birth language but I'm trying hard to make it understandable for everyone. As my first guide, this one had to be on my favorite champion : Jayce, The Defender Of Tommorow. First of all, Jayce isn't an easy champion to deal with, you have to get used to almost everything that makes Jayce different. For example you have to keep in mind that you don't exactly have an ultimate, you can just switch forms between melee and range, that's why you have to get use to all your 6 other spells to deal damages. You haven't a "powerfull" damage dealer ultimate like other champions, ...
Jayce can basically lane everywhere, but you usually see Jayce laning Top. I prefer to top or mid with Jayce but, having an ADC Jayce is not bad at all .
Pros / Cons
*Safe in lane
*Hard to Gank
*Low range from Cannon Form
*No hard CC
If you have in your team anaggressive jungler such as Rengar or Nocturne, I'll suggest you go 9/21/0 because Jayce can really do everything you want, such as tank or carry the team. On the one hand, it's more usefull to go tanky early on with Jayce when you have strong junglers. On the other hand, you can go 21/9/0 (the offensive way) when your jungler is more like the tanky ones such as Amumu, Maokai, ...
Greater Mark of Attack Damage
Greater Seal of Armor
Greater Glyph of Magic Resist
Greater Quintessence of Attack Damage
There are plenty of other viable runes, but it depends on personal preferences
As marks :
Greater Mark of Armor Penetration
Armor Penetration marks are really good on Jayce, it scales very well with all your abilities.
As Seals :
Greater Seal of Scaling Health
These seals are really awesome, the extra health is just huge.
As Glyphs :
Greater Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist
These glyphs are more powerfull than the Greater Glyph of Magic Resist later on and are great substitutes.
As Quintessences :
Greater Quintessence of Armor Penetration
For the same reason as the Greater Mark of Armor Penetration, Armor Pen scales really well with Jayce and these are great substitute to the Attack Damage ones.
This passive is just awesome for chasing, going back to lane faster.
(Q) This ability is your main damage tool, and your only gap closer, it's just awesome to bring pain from afar then jump toward your enemy just to say "Hi".
While in Cannon Form, Q can be paired with E to deal tons of damages at a long range.
(W) While in Hammer Form, you regain Mana when you attack and it's like you can lane forever with it... The active deals surprisingly lots of damages around you.
While in Cannon Form, you quickly strike your target three times. It's really great to push turrets or quickly harrass your oppennent in lane.
(E) Thundering blow is just an amazing ability, it helps you escape gank or finish off a single target with tons of damage.
Acceleration gate helps you get out of fights or get in with the AG+ SB combo. It aslo helps you and your teamates when chasing.
(R) This is your ultimate, it's a spamable one, it helps you benefits lots of damage output all game long.
Don't think twice before pressing R cause it provides buffs for your next basic attack.
In order to explain it, let's just say that you can either start the fight in Cannon or Hammer form then switch quickly into the other one to deal tons of damage.
By level 2, I prefer to put a point in E to help me when harrassing the enemy and desengage a fight early on.
It's about personal preferences, but I found W to be more usefull than E, the way I play it, that's why I want to max it second...
First of all, Jayce is a very versatile champion. He's as strong as your items are, and he's squishy without any defensive items.
+3 is a pretty standard start with any top laner or ADC cause it porvides Movement speed, and it improves your mobility while laning, helps you avoid ganks, ...
2* + 1*sight ward + X* is what you have to get on your first Back to base. It's approximatively 1060 gold and plus (depending on how many potions you're going to buy).
From now on, your damage output is quite good and you can start being aggressive against your enemy.
is a must-have item on Jayce, cause you're always casting spells to switch forms, farm, or harrass. Sheen (1280 gold) can be evolve in 2 good items such as Trinity Force or Iceborn Gauntlet
is an awesome item that provides everything you need such as AD, APen and CD. Later on it would be evolve in for it's huge damage output and health .
is another cool item that provides all you need as Jayce : AD and APen
The boots really depends on the situation and personal preferences, ...
Just pick :
* if you find yourself too slow.
* if you ant the extra attack speed.
* if you want some tenacity against CC.
* if you're taking too much damages from your enemy early on.
Take a if you're facing too much AD Damage from your enemies, like an AD Carry feed or more AD reliant champions on the enemy team.
Take a if the enemy AP carry and AD carry are too fed...
Take a if the enemy team has a high burst damage AP champion fed like LeBlanc or Brand.
is always a good last item to have, the ability to revive is just amazing .
is an awesome items, it provides a shield, magic resists, lots of AD, and a really cool passive (+1AD for every 2.5 % of your maximum health missing)
Take a if the enemy team has an AP carry fed with lots of CC like Malzahar to escape his ultimate. This item provides lots of AD too.
Trinity Force VS Iceborn Gauntlet
Trinity Force VS Iceborn Gauntlet
Trinity Force has always been a good item and a must have on Jayce trough the season 2, but since the preseason 3, a new item has appeared ... Iceborn Gauntlet. These 2 items are good enough to be talked about.
Trinity Force is nowadays bought for it's passive : Spellblade which provides a bonus AD on your next basic attack after landing an ability equal to 150 % of your current AD ...
Iceborn Gauntlet's passive spellbalde provides a bonus AD on your next basic attack after landing an ability equal to 125 % of your current AD and a 35 % Slowing zone on enemies for 3 seconds.
On the one hand, Trinity Force deals more damages and was proven to be a really good item on carries such as Corki, Ezreal, ...
On the other hand, Iceborn Gauntlet is a more tanky items that provides lots of damage and utility.
Keep in mind that you're Jayce, you have both a range and a melee form. You'll usually stay in Cannon form until level 3 to help you last hit and don't get too close to your enemy. You must focus on last hitting creeps before harrassing your oppenent cause League of Legends isn't about killing but farming and staying alive ...
Once you have all your abilities, you can star being aggressive in your lane, with like a quick SHOCK BLAST trough your ACCELERATION GATE to your enemy or minions.
+ or combo deals quite enough damages to scare them away too.
How to escape Ganks ...
It's really simple to escape good ganks. When you're over pushing your lane, just stay in range form and quickly drop your E to gain some movement speed and switch form into the hammer one to knock back them with your E .
I made this guide as short as possible, cause I don't wanted to prentend like I was the best Jayce NA, I just wanted to create a guide about him to help players.
General players aren't looking trough a whole guide to copy/paste the author in game, they just want to inform themselves about how to play that champion.
My purpose isn't too hard to understand, I just wanted to help players decide wether they should buy Jayce or not, cause it's an expensive champion. And I hope they'll find their own playstyle while enjoying Jayce cause he's like the funniest champion to play !!!
