Throughout Valoran, the resolve of Demacia's military is alternately celebrated or despised, but always respected. Their "zero tolerance" moral code is strictly upheld by civilians and soldiers alike. In combat, this means Demacian troops may not make excuses, flee, or surrender by example. Garen, the valiant warrior who bears the title "the Might of Demacia", is the paradigm to which these leaders are compared. Thousands of great heroes have risen and fallen on the bloody battlefields between Demacia and its preeminent rival, Noxus. It was beneath their mighty banners of war that Garen first met steel with Katarina, the Sinister Blade. The infantrymen who beheld this event (and survived) commented that it seemed as though the two were locked in a mortal waltz set against a symphony of clashing blades.
Garen, the pride of the Demacian military and the leader of the Dauntless Vanguard, returned from this battle breathless for the first time in his career, though some speculate this was due to reasons other than exhaustion. The plausibility of these rumors was bolstered when, in every instance thereafter, Garen seized the opportunity to encounter the Sinister Blade again. A paragon of Demacian ethic, Garen never entertained such allegations, for he knew others couldn't understand. Even simply the pursuit of a worthy opponent on the battlefield is, to a true warrior, the reason to rise each morning. The promise of one, particularly one so beautifully and diametrically opposed, is the validation of his existence.
My summoner name is "Fishhead190" you can message me if you have any questions about this build. I wasn't that interested in building tank or a dps, so I decided to build him in between. This build has given me a 90% chance to win my games. I've played 7 rannked games with garen. My ranked score is 77/17/58.
Please give this build a try. I promise you won't be disappointed.
Marks and Quintessences: I recommend you to use Armor penetration as Marks and quitessences, because in the early game, you will destroy any one's armor, and its easy to get kills with your judgement.
Seals and Glyphs: I recommend you to use Greater seal of Resilience as seals and Greater Glyph of warding for glyphs, because in the early game, you will need to stay in lane longer to farm more.
With these runes, you can get a lot of farms early, and that will give you a great head start.
I've decided to give Garen a 9/21/0 on the mastery tree. The new defensive mastery tree with Garens passive gives him 21 hp regeneration per 5 second at level 1. If you need to regain health without going back to the base you can just stay back and your health will regenerate very quick.
Pros / Cons
-A LOT of health (4800 hp)
-A LOT of AD if SoC has full stacks (400 AD)
-Can harass well with Judgement
-Can get stacks easily with Demacian Justice
-Can use Judgement to get out of slows
-Difficult to farm against range champions
-Not much you can do if shut down early game
You want to start out with Judgement and max that skill first. Then max out Decisive strike and Courage.
If you have to solo lane against two champions I usually max out Courage first then Judgement.
Flash: Flash is a great spell with Garen it helps you escape from sticky situations and is also a good way to initiate into a fight (Flash then use Decisive strike + Judgement).
Ignite: Ignite is a good spell for close fights with other champions. It can also give you a kill when you use your Demacian Justice too early and the enemy has 100 hp left.
(optional) Ghost: Ghost is very good to use with your Decisive strike. It gives you a crazy amount of movement speed. Good way to catch up to enemies escaping.
(optional) Exhaust: Exhaust is great to use with your Judgement. The enemy takes the full on damage and is usually a definite kill.
I'd like to start off with a Doran's shield, because it will help you stay in lane longer because of it's armor and Hp. Then you should buy the Boots of Swiftness because it works very well with Garen when he uses Decisive strike and Judgement. Then, you should buy my favorite item : Sword of the Occult. I think it's one of the best items to get with Garen in the game, it gives you a crazy amount of damage when you have full stacks. I think you really got to buy this item, because it's what Garen was meant to have! Then i like to buy Warmogs Armor because you will notice that you need some Health because of your Sword of the occult since teams will try to focus you to ruin your stacks. Then you should buy an Atma's impaler which works great with your Warmogs to give you a great increase in Attack damage. The next item I like to get is the Frozen Mallet because it gives Garen survivability and slows enemies 100% of the time.
The Final item of the build is up to you. If I am doing very well in the game I like to buy an Infinity Edge to kill the enemy even faster.
Here are possible 6th items:
Force of Nature
Guardians Angel <---- Pisses the other team off
Please don't use Garen's Ultimate to Kills steal your teammates. This is the one thing that upsets me when I see other Garen's. I know Sword of the Occult requires you to get kills, but try not to kill steal your teammates.
P.S. Don't initiate with your Ultimate that's the worst thing you can do with Garen.
Please help me improve this guide or build. This build has never failed me yet.
