I use a simple mixture of flat AP for early lane phase and some AP per level for mid game when you focus on getting mana and HP providing items.

Skill Sequence Notes

I start with the Soul Shield for some early damage output and better protection for the carry I'm playing with.
Comparing to Heavenly Wave, Sould Shield is much more powerful and flexible in usage at level 1.

Masteries

Skill everything that gets you extra gold and experience. The last 7 points go to AP and cooldown reduce.
Simple.

Important Gameplay Notes

Get at least one invisible ward in the beginning to counter enemy warding and enable save and effective ganking for your jungler. With the extra gold from your masteries you should be able to afford it.

If lane dominance is on your side:
- use the 'Soul Shield-Mantra-Combo' on minions to harm nearby enemies
- slow enemy with Spirit Bond to infict damage and catch up

If lane dominance is to the enemy:
- keep up Soul Shield only for protection in order to make farming possible for your carry
- use Spirit Bond to create distance between you and the enemy and lern to use the full range!
