Zhonya's is amazing, since you will be targeted in teamfights and the active can help you stay alive for longer, while still doing massive damage with your E :)

love the guide just one thing

why movement and death reduction over mana masteries sense he's so mana heavy and he mostly sits in back and spams Q I find mana would be much more helpful

but that's me aside from that great i give you a thumbs up

best Karthus guide out there to be honest most of the other ones are troll joke guides >_>

I mostly agree with this build as a person who mains Karthus. However, please consider adding Boots of Swiftness instead of Boots of the Sorcerer - as Karthus, I find the added mobility of Enhanced Movement 3 over Enhanced Movement 2 to be really, really good if you're laning against someone highly mobile such as Morgana, Orianna, Kennen, Miss Fortune, etc.

Zhonya's Hourglass seems to be the most disputed thing about building Karthus. All I'm going to say is, in a teamfight, that's an extra 600ish(-MR) damage to everyone in the green circle of death before you go into Death Defied. Karthus works really well as an initiator with Zhonya's, and even though you may die a lot, you're going to still get a lot of kills and assists.

The difference in Zhonya's while being focused and not being in Zhonya's is a couple of kills, typically; those two extra seconds before people start scattering out of the team fight means Requiem is likely going to snag you a kill while you're all ghostly.

Just my experience. Overall, nice guide. :D

Well, I began playing last june, and I read a very similar guide when I bought my first champ (which was karthus), the guy used to take clarity and a mejai's soulstealer instead of Arch Staff, which worked very well for me to get level 30, but with the runes I think a build like yours works best.

I personally prefer the meki pendant so I can harass a lot mwahaha, and Will of the Ancients instead of abyssal scepter (which perhaps your support can get) for extra survivality and taking advantage of Zhonya's. But oh well, as you said, items are situational.

Optimal default build in my opinion, good job with the guide.

There are two issues that you greatly missed in this build: first two archangel staffs in not effective with the amount of mana, since it has a unique passive, you dont get the mana from the second and 3% more AD from 3500 mana at the end is only about 110 AD. Second crystal scepter does not work with your wall, and your wall is one of the best slows in game. So two slows, no need. Other than that its a good build, and i agree with it, but this build has been made many times already. An idea for you is void staff instead of archangel staff. It will add to your boots and you will get 60% pen. That is worth alot when there is little weak champions around and you will do at least some damage to tanks too.

well the build that gives the most ap is to get alot of aa staffs atleast two or three and then u will have about 800-1000 ap. so people get alot of aa staffs
