Introduction



Sinister Steel
Hey dudes, my name Aikairi, and I play on the North America (or most commonly known as NA) server. I played League of Legends for almost a year now. The lane I main is MidLane, and the champion most commonly used when i'm playing MidLane is Katarina.

Anyways, welcome to my guide for Katarina! This is my first guide so don't expect something really fabulous or amazing, in addition i'm Silver 5, but climbing up very quicky. But I will try my hardest to be a senpai and give information about Katarina to you. :)

Katarina, the Sinister Blade is a assassin. Who specializes in teamfight when the time is right and try to kill off as many high-priority targets as possible, also utilizing the full potential of her passive, Voracity. She's a goddess in Bronze due to the lack of Crowd Control (commonly known as CC) and tanks, but knowing your damage and when to go into the teamfight and quick good reflexes is critical, without the skills, you will do absolutely nothing.

The reason why I played Katarina is because she's extremely fun and easy to play, and also wrecks havoc in lower ELO, but most of all, she's sexy as hell (really). But keep in mind that easy to play and easy to master are different things, you might take longer than usual to master her if you're new. But, as your senpai, I will tell you how to become a better Katarina. ;)

Pros and Cons

Pros

+ Shunpo makes you very hard to catch.
+ Her Ultimate, Death Lotus deals alot of damage if not handled.
+ High Snowballing Potential.
+ She has 3 AoE Abilities, which makes her a great teamfighter.
Katarina is really one of the fun-ner champions in League of Legends. Her burst potential is over the top when she's fed. Her teamfights are really good if your team have hard CC, she's also really easy to work well with, for example, she can Death Lotus into the fight when everyone's being CC'd.
Cons

- Her Ultimate is channeled, meaning that it can be stopped by a Hard CC (Stuns, Knockups)
- Very weak laning phase.
- To escape a fight, you will have to get a kill first.
- Her Ultimate deals most of the damage.
Katarina certainly have Cons to worry about. Her Weak Laning Phase means she can be ganked easily until she reaches level 2 or 3, that's when you get your Shunpo. And if you don't have your Ultimate which pretty much deals most of your damage, you will be useless, and your Ultimate can be stopped easily.

Fleet Footwork
Phase Rush

Mark of Magic Penetration - Always get this because your target will be stacking Magic Resistance if you're fed. Just get it so you deal more damage.

Seal of Armor/ Seal of Health - Makes it easier to lane against a AD Champion, especially against a Zed. Can be replaced by Health Seals.

Glyph of Scaling Ability Power - More damage late game.

Quintessence of Ability Power - You will have about 16 Ability Power at level 1, which is great for your Q and W procing.

Summoners

Flash
Teleports your champion a short distance towards your cursor's location.
You should always get this no matter what champion you're using. Except for a few that can benefit from other Summoner Spells. You can use Flash to escape a gank, "jump" over a wall, or secure a kill. It also combos well with most Summoner Spells.

Ignite
Ignites target enemy champion, dealing 70-410 true damage (depending on champion level) over 5 seconds, grands you vision of the target, and reduce healing effects on them for the duration.
Most of the time you should always get this. It haves alot of good uses. If you're going for a 1 v 1, this is your buddy. You can use it to secure a kill, and such. One thing to note is, you can use Ignite while casting your Ultimate, Death Lotus.

Alternatives



Exhaust
Exhausts target enemy champion, reducing their Movement Speed and Attack Speed by 30% for 2.5 seconds and reduces their damage dealt by 50% for the duration.
This is actually quite useful if you're against a Tryndamere, or Zed as it will reduce their Attack Speed and Damage, allowing you to gain the advantage.

Teleport
After channeling for 3.5 seconds, teleports your champion to allied minion, turret or ward.
This is quite useful as it can be used in many ways, it can be used to get back to lane, or secretly teleporting to a ward in bot lane to get kills. But for a cost, weakening your laning phase.

Heal
Restores 95-475 Health (depending on champion level) and grants 30% Movement Speed for 1 second to you and target allied champion. This heal is halved for units recently affected by Summoner Heal.
Heal actually wins Barrier in terms of usefulness, you should try to use it when you're low on health or doing a 1 v 1. Remember, never use heal when champions ignite you unless you are extremely low (100 health). You can also use it to block turret shots as well.

Cleanse
Removes all disables and summoner spell debuffs affecting your champion and lowers the duration of incoming disables by 65% for 3 seconds.
Katarina can also benefit from Cleanse to help with her ultimate, Death Lotus, although this require good timing and is not really common. Usually when you use your Ultimate, Death Lotus, people will try to stun you and stop you from using Death Lotus, since if Katarina gets crow controlled she is basically dead, Cleanse helps you avoid the stun and Shunpo away to an allied/minion/ward, you'll still lose your ultimate, but not die.

Barrier
Shields your champion for 115-455 (depending on champion level) for 2 seconds.
It haves the same purposes as Heal, but you only get this if the enemy have a spell with Grievous Wounds or Ignite. You can use it to 1 v 1, or block a turret shot.

You get your Bouncing Blades at Level 1, as you want to harass your opponent early as it's damage to a marked target is really high. Next, you will either want to get Shunpo or Sinister Steel. Get Shunpo if you're facing a person skillshot-reliant or have a dash, and get Sinister Steel if it's vice-versa. You will max your Bouncing Blades against a ranged champion, and Sinister Steel against Melee. In my opinion, you should max Shunpo last as it is only used as Mobility. Grab your ultimate at Level 6, 11 and 16.

This spell is why Katarina can easily get Pentakills. This seperates the Good and the Bad Katarinas. Although, this skill have taken quite a beating (read patch notes), it can still be a very good skill. It's useless in the laning phase, but shines out more in the late game.
Tips for Voracity:

This Skill is usually your first ability you use to initiate. In Early Game, you use this to farm minions that are unreachable without taking damage. In duels, you want to hit them with Bouncing Blades and then Sinister Steel, Shunpo or autoattack after to proc the mark, dealing damage. You can also usually use your Shunpo, then Bouncing Blades the enemy to secure the kill if they're low enough.
Cooldown: 10/9.5/9/8.5/8 Seconds
Bouncing Blades Damage: 60/85/110/135/160 (+45% of ability power) magic damage
Mark Damage: 15/30/45/60/75 (+15% ability power) magic damage



Sinister Steel
You should always use Sinister Steel whenever you marked a enemy. Always know the range of it and use it when you're trying to escape, as it deals damage to enemy champions and she will gain speed for a short duration.
Cooldown: 4 Seconds
Damage: 40/80/120/160/200 (+0.6 per bonus Attack Damage)(+25% ability power) magic damage.



This ability should be used to harass or get in range of a harass, or maybe escape harass. You should always use this after you marked them with your Bouncing Blades, then try to get a Sinister Steel, because of the speed you get for hitting an enemy champion, you will be out of harass.
Cooldown: 12/10.5/9/7.5/6 Seconds
Damage: 60/85/110/135/160 (+40% of ability power) magic damage



This is your Ultimate, it haves a fairly short cooldown and spam it when possible. One thing to note is that you can use it to see enemies stealthing ( Evelynn, Teemo, you can't use it if there's no enemy around, and when you can use it, it will shine brightly. And the daggers will show you where the enemies are. Always use this ability last when teamfighting.
Cooldown: 60/52.5/45 Seconds
Damage: 400/575/750 (+3.75 per bonus attack damage)(+250% of ability power) magic damage

Lane Matchups


Summoner Spells - Flash and Ignite
Difficulty - 3/10
Starting Items - Boots of Speed and x4 Health Potions
Laning - She's a easy target for you, she is a sustained Mage, so you probably will deal more damage than her in 1 second. Just remember, always bait her E, Charm, and dodge her Q, Orb of Deception using your Shunpo. Try to waste her Ultimate, Spirit Rush when she's 6.


Summoner Spells - Flash and Ignite
Difficulty - 3-5/10
Starting Items - Doran's Shield and x1 Health Potion
Laning - She's easy to win against, just don't give her a kill or you will cry like there's no tomorrow. Don't let her attack you when she uses her Q, Mark of the Assassin or you will take alot of damage. Never fight inside her Twilight Shroud unless she puts it in late. Remember, her Twilight Shroud can't stop your Ultimate. And when she's escaping, the daggers will show where her location is regardless whether she's stealthed by the shroud or not. Also, always recall when you're below 300 health, as her Ultimate, Shadow Dance can chase you effectively.


Summoner Spells - Flash and Ignite/Clarity
Difficulty - 3-6/10
Starting Items: Doran's Shield and x1 Health Potion
Laning - Really hard to snowball as she haves her passive. Make sure she uses it before you turret dive her. Dodge her Flash Frost as it is her only Stun spell that can stop your Death Lotus. And make sure to waste her Passive.


Summoner Spells - Flash and Ignite/Heal/Barrier
Difficulty - 6/10
Starting Items: Doran's Shield and x1 Health Potion or Boots of Speed and x4 Health Potions
Laning - Don't get hit by her Incinerate as it will deal plenty of damage to you, dodge her Ultimate, Summon: Tibbers by using your Shunpo, use your Ultimate, Death Lotus immediately after she uses Summon: Tibbers, its hard to dodge but worth the effort. Don't try to fight her when she haves her stun, Pyromania up.


Summoner Spells - Flash and Ignite/Heal/Barrier
Difficulty - 4-6/10
Starting Items: Doran's Shield and x1 Health Potion or Boots of Speed and x4 Health Potions
Laning - Dodge his Pillar of Flame, and make sure you don't have ablaze, and also make sure he used his Sear, which can stop your Death Lotus easily. Just bait them, incredibly easy laning. But A smart Brand will save his Sear for when you jump on him.


Summoner Spells - Flash and Ignite
Difficulty - 5/10
Starting Items: Doran's Shield and x1 Health Potion
Laning - Incredibly easy, make sure to be leveled ahead of her, if you're ahead and level 6, then use your Death Lotus, as she don't have any basic abilities that can stop it, until she is level 6, using her Petrifying Gaze.


Summoner Spells - Flash and Ignite
Difficulty - 7/10
Starting Items: Doran's Shield and x1 Health Potion or Boots of Speed and x4 Health Potions
Laning - Cho' Gath have 2 spells that can stop your Ultimate, Death Lotus. And he is very tanky, so it's hard to snowball. Make sure to dodge his Rupture and Feral Scream before you use your Death Lotus.


Summoner Spells - Flash and Ignite
Difficulty - 4/10
Starting Items: Doran's Shield and x1 Health Potion
Laning - She will probably try to engage on you first, and will probably use her Moonfall so you don't escape, immediately after that, use your Death Lotus on her. Incredibly easy farming. Make sure not to get hit by her Q, Crescent Strike, if you do, immediately back out as she can use her ultimate, Lunar Rush 2 times on you.


Summoner Spells - Flash and Ignite/Barrier
Difficulty - 4-8/10
Starting Items: Doran's Shield and x1 Health Potion
Laning - Don't let him use Playful / Trickster on you, dodge it with your Shunpo or just run away, after he uses it, use your Death Lotus on him. If you're not experienced, then you will cry in lane with Fizz.


Summoner Spells - Flash and Ignite/Barrier/Heal
Difficulty - 5 - 8/10
Starting Items: Doran's Shield and x1 Health Potion or Boots of Speed and x4 Health Potions
Laning - In his Mini Form, dodge his Boomerang Throw as it will deal damage and slow you, giving him a free stack of Hyper, he will then proceed to Autoattack you to deal Hyper's damage. He haves nothing to stop you from using your Ultimate, so you can use it freely unless his Rage Bar is around 90~. In his Mega Form, you want to stay back and farm for a bit, as he haves two abilities that can stop your Ultimate, Wallop and GNAR!, wait until he turns Mini then you can be agressive. You also don't want to target him under turret when he is in Mega Form, or about to be unless he's super low (200 health and down).


Summoner Spells - Flash and Ignite/Barrier/Heal
Difficulty - 6/10
Starting Items: Doran's Shield and x1 Health Potion or Boots of Speed and x4 Health Potions
Laning - Don't let him damage you with his Barrel Roll, he haves constant sustain with his Happy Hour, don't him get close to you as he can use his Drunken Rage to deal bonus damage on the next attack. Make sure he used Body Slam or Explosive Cask before you use your Death Lotus.



Summoner Spells - Flash and Ignite/Heal/Barrier
Difficulty - 6-8/10
Starting Items: Doran's Shield and x1 Health Potion or Boots of Speed and x4 Health Potions
Laning - Very easy to lane against, make sure you come to lane fast, in case he is being safe and planting turrets before minions spawn. Always destroy his turrets the moment he plants them or you're going to be in trouble. It is incredibly hard for him to hit his CH-2 Electron Storm Grenade as you can just Shunpo out of it the moment he uses it. But if you get harassed alot, you will cry in the laning phase.


Summoner Spells - Flash and Ignite/Heal/Barrier
Difficulty - 8/10
Starting Items: Boots of Speed and x4 Health Potion
Laning - Make sure not to get hit by her Q, Inner Flame, if she haves Mantra on it. You're going to be hitted by a truck. When you Death Lotus her, she can just use her Inspire to move quicker, and kill you when she haves Focused Resolve on you, you want to play safe in this matchup and not get caught.


Summoner Spells - Flash and Ignite/Barrier/Heal
Difficulty - 2/10
Starting Items: Boots of Speed and x4 Health Potion
Laning - Don't get hit by his Lay Waste and he is done, you even have a Shunpo if it almost hits you. Be careful when you're low because he can use Requiem on you easily. Rush Zhonya's Hourglass first as it will negate the damage from Requiem, Lay Waste, and Defile!


Summoner Spells - Flash and Ignite
Difficulty - 4/10
Starting Items: Doran's Shield and x1 Health Potion
Laning - Really easy matchup, make sure he wastes his Null Sphere before you try to kill him using Death Lotus. He is also squishy too, but be careful when he hits 6 because he will have the infamous Riftwalk.


Summoner Spells - Flash and Ignite
Difficulty - SKILL MATCHUP
Starting Items: Doran's Shield and x1 Health Potion
Laning - This Matchup depends on your build and your skill with her. If she builds a Rylai's Crystal Scepter or a Hextech Gunblade, you win this fight unless you're still very weak with her. Anyways, good luck!


Summoner Spells - Flash and Ignite/Barrier/Heal
Difficulty - 6/10
Starting Items: Doran's Shield and x1 Health Potion
Laning - She might not have any abilities to stop you, but in early levels, she can harass you easily using her E, Righteous Fury, and when you try to kill her using Death Lotus, she can just use Intervention. Make sure she dosen't have her Ultimate when you try to towerdive her.


Summoner Spells - Flash and Ignite
Difficulty - 4/10
Starting Items: Doran's Shield and x1 Health Potion or Cloth Armor and 5x Health Potions
Laning - Easy matchup, always go aggro on him (it?), he can't possibly do anything to stop your Ultimate, yes, he's ultimate can stealth him, but Katarina can still hit stealth targets like Akali.


Summoner Spells - Flash and Ignite/Barrier/Heal
Difficulty - 6/10
Starting Items: Doran's Shield and x1 Health Potion
Laning - This matchup is easy, as of Patch 4.10, Riot disables her Silence, so none of her abilities can stop you. But make sure to dodge her Ethereal Chains so she can't root you. But she still have insane early game damage.


Summoner Spells - Flash and Ignite/Barrier/Heal
Difficulty - 4/10
Starting Items: Doran's Shield and x1 Health Potion
Laning - She only haves her Ultimate which can stop your damage from applying to her. So hit Level 6 before she does. Try to kill her as quick as possible, or when you have your Ultimate. Dodge her Ring of Frost as it will root you, specially when you're turret diving her.


Summoner Spells - Flash and Ignite/Barrier/Heal
Difficulty - 4-6/10
Starting Items: Doran's Shield and x1 Health Potion or Boots of Speed and x4 Health Potions
Laning - Really easy lane if you know how to dodge skillshots using your Shunpo, don't get caught up in her Light Binding, as she can use her Ultimate, Final Spark to force you to go back. She haves no ability to stop your Death Lotus so it might be a easy lane for you.


Summoner Spells - Flash and Ignite/Barrier/Heal/Clarity
Difficulty - 7/10
Starting Items: Doran's Shield and x1 Health Potion
Laning - Incredibly hard lane, Malzahar haves his Call of the Void to silence you when you use your Death Lotus, also his Ultimate, Nether Grasp is hard Crowd Control that can stop your Ultimate too, just play safe and don't get caught out of position.


Difficulty - 4/10
Starting Items: Doran's Shield and x1 Health Potion
Laning - Very easy lane, don't get caught by Dark Binding, you can also delete most of her health if she does not react quickly and use Black Shield, be careful when using your Death Lotus when she haves Soul Shackles which can stun you. Bully her in lane, ward and you will be fine.


Summoner Spells - Flash and Ignite/Barrier/Heal
Difficulty - 2/10
Starting Items: Doran's Shield and x1 Health Potion or Boots of Speed and x4 Health Potions
Laning - Don't let her use her spear on you or it will deal alot of damage, with the update, Nidalee will probably use her cougar form to farm, this is a perfect time for you to harass her. She haves become a easier target than before.


Summoner Spells - Flash and Ignite
Difficulty - 6/10
Starting Items: Doran's Shield and x1 Health Potion or Boots of Speed and x4 Health Potions
Laning - Make sure not to get hit by her Command: Attack as she can use her Command: Dissonance afterwards. She can also use her Command: Protect to shield her from your combo, and Death Lotus. Never use your Ultimate when she haves Command: Shockwave, her ultimate.


Summoner Spells - Flash and Ignite
Difficulty - 9-10/10
Starting Items: Doran's Shield and x1 Health Potion or Cloth Armor and x5 Health Potions
Laning - Make sure she used her Ki Burst before you use your Death Lotus so she can't stop your Ultimate, she can use her Valor to shield her from damage which can mean trouble. Always dodge her 3rd Broken Wings too before you use your Ultimate as it is a knockup and can stop your Death Lotus. Riven is the single best counter for Katarina in the game. High damage early game, even higher damage at level 6, mobility, two forms of hard crowd control. If she's only a little smart you stand no chance against her.


Summoner Spells - Flash and Ignite/Barrier/Heal
Difficulty - 6/10
Starting Items: Doran's Shield and x1 Health Potion
Laning - He has no way to stop your ultimate, is pretty mana hungry before and in the early stages of his tear, and your ultimate cuts his spell vamp in half. You have a pretty easy time farming against him and you can absolutely kill him at level 6.


Summoner Spells - Flash and Ignite
Difficulty - 1/10
Starting Items: Doran's Shield and x1 Health Potion
Laning - I don't know why there is a Sona in MidLane, but harass her everytime your cooldowns comes up, she haves the most fragile health.. ever.

Laning - Don't get hit by her Starcall. Make sure you don't get silenced when you use your Ultimate, Death Lotus, easy lane.


Summoner Spells - Flash and Ignite
Difficulty - 6/10
Starting Items: Doran's Shield and x1 Health Potion or Boots of Speed and x4 Health Potion
Laning - Make sure you don't get hit by Swain's Nevermove, the titles says it all, you will never move. Don't underestimate his Decrepify as it can deal alot of damage to you. His Ultimate, Ravenous Flock gives him a lot of sustain as well, so be careful of it.


Summoner Spells - Flash and Ignite/Barrier/Heal
Difficulty - 7/10
Starting Items: Doran's Shield and x1 Health Potion or Boots of Speed and x4 Health Potion
Laning - Don't get hit by her Dark Sphere, as well as Force of Will, make sure she dosen't have Scatter the Weak when you use Death Lotus on her as it will cancel your Ultimate. Don't overstay your visit when you're low as she can use her Unleashed Power to kill you even if she haves no Dark Spheres, there are 3 spheres around her literally.


Summoner Spells - Flash and Ignite/Barrier/Heal
Difficulty - 8/10
Starting Items: Doran's Shield and x1 Health Potion or Cloth Armor and 5x Health Potions
Laning - Very hard to lane against, don't let his Rake hit you as it is his main source of damage, make sure he attacks you first using Cutthroat so he haves no silence and you can activate your Ultimate.


Summoner Spells - Flash and Ignite/Heal/Barrier
Difficulty - 2-3/10
Starting Items: Doran's Shield and x1 Health Potion
Laning - His Blinding Dart is absolutely useless. Even if you're blind, you can hit your Bouncing Blades, Sinister Steel, and Death Lotus, Teemo is such a fail. Also make sure you don't get hit by his Toxic Shot, and don't step on Noxious Trap as it is your ultimate enemy, besides from the demon of course.


Summoner Spells - Flash and Ignite
Difficulty - 4-5/10
Starting Items: Doran's Shield and x1 Health Potion
Laning - Don't let his Gold (Stun) Pick A Card hit you when you're using your Death Lotus as it will cancel your Ultimate, don't get hit by his Wild Cards as they deal quite the damage. Always tell your team when he uses his Destiny so they can escape freely.


Summoner Spells - Flash and Ignite/Heal/Barrier
Difficulty - 5/10
Starting Items: Doran's Shield and x1 Health Potion or Boots of Speed and x4 Health Potions
Laning - Make sure you don't get hit by his Dark Matter and stunned by his Event Horizon, don't get hit by them and you should be okay.


Summoner Spells - Flash and Ignite/Heal/Barrier
Difficulty - 5-6/10
Starting items: Doran's Shield and x1 Health Potion or Boots of Speed and x4 Health Potions
Laning - It's important that you don't get hit by his Tectonic Disruption or Plasma Fission as he will be able to land his Life Form Disintegration Ray more easily on you because you're slowed or knocked airborne.


Summoner Spells - Flash and Ignite
Difficulty - 8/10
Starting Items: Doran's Shield and x1 Health Potion or Boots of Speed and x4 Health Potions
Laning - Don't get hit by his Death Ray, and don't stay in Gravity Field for too long. Also make sure that Gravity Field is not up if you want to try to use your Death Lotus on him.


Summoner Spells - Flash and Ignite
Difficulty - 6/10
Starting Items: Doran's Shield and x1 Health Potion
Laning - Don't use your Death Lotus when he haves Sanguine Pool as he can just block the damage. Don't get hit by his Hemoplague or you will need to back.

Difficulty - 6/10
Starting Items: Doran's Shield and x1 Health Potion or Boots of Speed and x4 Health Potion
Laning - Don't get hit by Xerath's Shocking Orb as it can stun you when you're using Death Lotus. Also, dodge his Eye of Destruction, as well as Rite of the Arcane using your Shunpo and he should be no problem for you.

Difficulty - 4-7/10
Starting Items: Doran's Shield and x1 Health Potion or Cloth Armor and 5x Health Potions
Laning - Don't use your Ultimate when he haves his Windwall as your Death Lotus is a projectile and he can just negate all the damage easily. Don't get hit by his Steel Tempest, most importantly, his third Steel Tempest as it can cancel your Ultimate. Just do that and you will be fine.


Summoner Spells - Flash and Ignite/Barrier
Difficulty - 5/10
Starting Items: Doran's Shield and x1 Health Potion or Cloth Armor and 5x Health Potions
Laning - Don't let him harass you using his Razor Shuriken, it hurts alot if his Living Shadow hits you too. Make sure he uses his Death Mark before you try to kill him as your Death Lotus will not hit him for about a second, which is about 45% of the damage. Just do that and you will be fine.

Difficulty - 7/10
Starting Items: Doran's Shield and x1 Health Potion or Boots of Speed and x4 Health Potions
Laning - Kinda easy as his Satchel Charge is the only thing that can stop your Death Lotus. Don't get hit by his skillshots and that's it. If you get hit, they will hit like a truck to you.

Difficulty - 3/10
Starting Items: Doran's Shield and x1 Health Potion
Laning - He's easy to take on, make sure he dosen't have his Ultimate if yo decided to turret-dive or kill him when you're low. Try to waste his Ultimate so you can kill him.

Teamwork

You might already know this, but i'm going to tell you anyways, Teamwork is very important on a champion like Katarina, who is a assassin. Some examples apply telling your team to bait for you while you are waiting in the bush to gank him unexpectedly. Or maybe, you used Zhonya's Hourglass Active and needed a Shunpo to a teammate, so communication is very important on her. So it's suggested you use a device or application that can record your voice and such in live. So you don't have to type in chat.

Early Game

Before 6, the things you want to do is just last-hitting, and trying to harass your opponent out of lane. The reason why I say so was because if you harass your opponent out of lane, they would miss about 2 waves of minions, almost equal to what you gain from a kill. The only thing you want to use to farm is your Bouncing Blades and your Sinister Steel. If you're always using mana-hungry champions, you might have trouble farming with Katarina, as she is manaless and you can spam all her abilities if you want to.

A important thing to note is after you force your opponent out of lane, rather by killing them, or harassing them, DO SOMETHING if you have the vision of the jungler, or if you're still high enough to escape the jungler rather easily. I advise you to push the waves, so the turret would take all of your opponent's creeps, tell your teammates to compete for Dragon , as it would be a 4 v 3, including the bot lane and the jungler, or lastly, ROAM. It's an important part of Katarina's playstyle. You roam to get kills and carry the game, and as Katarina is very bursty, it would be very easy to score kills in the bot lane, together with your support's Crowd Control.

In the Early Game, it is also very important to take note of what items counters your enemies, example, you're facing a Zed, it would be a wise option to get Quicksilver Sash, or rush Zhonya's Hourglass first. Don't just go the straight-forward build and not change your pathways on your items. This would help you counter your enemies very hard, and would prove alot of usefulness in the future League of Legends games you play.

Mid Game

Here comes the Mid-Game stage, in the Mid-Game, what you will be focused mainly on is ROAMING, and WARDING. As I said earlier in the "Early Game" stage, Roaming is a important part of Katarina. Before 6, you probably wouldn't have your Ultimate up, now you do, and you add alot more burst, together with your ultimate, items too if they are bought wisely. Also, many people often never ward their lane, and their reason is, "I thought the support wards it for you!", no. You're in a solo lane, you do it yourself. When you back, always get about 2 to 3 Stealth Wards. This would help to prevent successful ganks from the jungler, and would help a lot. You would want to use a ward or two on the bushes that the enemy usually wait for ganks, and one on the Dragon , and after 25 minutes or so, Baron Nashor .

During Mid-Game, you will also want to push to enemy towers more often, due to more wards you're placing, it usually safe, doing this allows you to "conquer" the land and makes it easier to get kills, that the enemy usually don't have a turret near them to save them from the troubles. You usually want to push towers either with your jungler, or alternatively, your Bot or Top lane if they're wrecking the opponents they're facing.

Late Game

As Late-Game comes, you will need to be more cautious when near the enemy team, as they can easily ambush you and your team will be forced to lay back, or fight a 4 v 5. You would usually want to stick with your team at this point, and always upgrade your ward when you have the chance to, also, ward Baron Nashor ALL THE TIME. Don't let it be secretly taken. As Teamfights happen, so does your special abilities shines. Also, after a teamfight, ALWAYS do something, rather it's taking a turret, taking a inhibitor, getting Baron Nashor or Dragon , DO SOMETHING. Even though you're low, there won't be some Ghost Garen like in Doom Bots coming to secretly kill you.

Also, when taking Baron Nashor or Dragon , you can just plant a ward just outside the walls of the Baron Nashor or Dragon , so you can shunpo to it if your team faces danger. If you don't know where to plant, the Dragon 's is near the Red Buff, and Baron Nashor 's is near the Blue Buff and tri-bush too, just be sure no one is there so you won't get killed anyways.
