Welcome

Hi and welcome to my Hybrid Katarina build / guide.
I will not go into full detail but will discuss key points to play a successful Katarina.


I dare, no i double dare you to try this build. If you play it well, you won't be disappointed ;). If you want some clarification or some more info, go on and read the mini guide.

Pro's
- Cooldown based
- Good farmer
- Strong auto attacks
- Very Versatile with Shunpo / Shunpo flash
- AOE ultimate

Con's
- U will be the enemies main target to shutdown (becuase basicly your ulti rapes the teamfight)

Masteries

So you have the damage output from Archaic Knowledge and
The much needed armor / resist / health. This is very important early game in the laning phase.

Runes

Marks: Obviously Magic penetration.
Seals: Ap/lvl
Glyphs: Ap/lvl together with seals u will do noticeable damage from lvl 4
Quintc:

  • 1x Magic pen so we have 10 in total
  • 1x Flat AP for some early damage
  • 1x Move speed so you are definitely faster to trow your dagger etc

U can take other runes as well like cdr on blue and health on yellow runes or anything u like, but this extra damage from AP is great :).

Skill Sequence

Since this build is some AD heavier max Bouncing Blade first!
After u can switch some between Killer instinct & Shunpo
Killer instinct passive damage is increased when upgraded and scales something with AD

Summoner Spells

So u become very mobile with flash / shunpo to chase or escape, kinda brilliant, a must have!

If the team is AD heavy it is realy vital! Let your oponent initiate, Exaust & counterattack.
If lots of healing types in enemy team. If u see laning against vlad take it with you, will become much easier!
Teleport is always a good choice and Ghost isn't bad either, but i prefer flash.

Items

Kata scales very good with AD. Her blades, killer instinct and ultimate!
vs I've played a lot off games with both and found the cd boots be much more effective with kinda same damage output. Now u can harass faster which gives u more control over the lane. Also we have 10 MPen off runes & 15% MPen off masteries, realy enough early game!
Now we need more survivability! So we can keep a hold on to our stacks, and more health to receive damage.
Again more survivability. Also must have item on kata, speaks for itself.
If you wanna go crazy take this item NOW (BETA PHASE). I prefer more the survivability(GA and follow normal build) because we already have enough damage output. But it's really really crazy ... :]
Now you either chose to finish or If you need the slow go Rylai's, if u need more damage go Gunblade.
Enemies will have resist against you by now. Bye Bye resist.
If you get bursted/nuked down, get this. A nice revive, keeping the stacks and do your awesome combo, maybe even gain extra stacks.

Laning against?

The only one u definitely not want to lane against is Kassadin. His silence bal does too much damage, and if he has clarity or teleport ur kinda ****ed.
Then laning against a ranged AD carry or lux annie .. is no problem at all. Vlad is take-able before he reaches lvl 8'ish. U should kill him once, and after u are more offlane for ganking or get some help in mid to push tower or get kill. Kennen can be tricky but u outdamage him @ lvl 6 and after

Playstyle

U will go mid! No other then mid. You have great lane control as wel as ganking other lanes.
In the beginning u will have very low damage output. Just try last hitting with blade/shunpo and normal last hits. From level 4 damage become decent, harass your opponent as much as you can and of course with receiving as little damage as possible. You still have 3 hp pots so u should be fine. If opponent play very very defensive u can lure him by also playing behind your creep line, shunpo forward and throw dagger to harass. Make full use off the bouncing blade, throw on creep so it bounces on champ .. u know that stuff right.
By lvl 6 u need to bring your oponent low, so u can easely kill him. Turret dive him if needed but look out for stuns. Easy escape with shunpo / flash.

Basis Combo: Q ~> Z ~> Gunblade active ~> E ~> R ~> Q (finisher or use gunblade here) ~> E (chaser)
Alter Combo: Z ~> E ~> R ~> Q ~> E (chase)
Why 'Q' is a finisher? Basicly your Q does some more damage then 1 ulti blade and has a bigger range.
Keep in mind the range of your abilities. Q=600 E=700 R=550
So if target is escaping your ulti(550 range), do Q or E or gunblade..

Your first item to buy should be the Sword off Occult. U cannot not get stacks with her because she is true carry/killer with lots AOE damage.

So you go back to the lane. Push the creeps, go gank on a lane. But be sure t get back before your turret gets hit. If you see your turret will receive damage, just ge back and push the creeps. U will have enough opportunities to gank and it's not worthy to lose half a turret for a gank that might fail or win. If Mid is missing follow him to the lane u think will be ganked, and counter gank it. Even if you are MiA he might go trough with his try gank. Abilities are used on cd .. u come in and turn the fight in your teams favor.

ELIXIRS!!! blue & red both are good. If you have trouble mid, a red one can fix that.

Late game U CAN NOT INITIATE A TEAMFIGHT, NEVER. Let your tank, offtank do their job and focus the carries like cait, annie, ez, or whoever is squishy. Will you die? Maybe. As long u did the damage that u supposed to do and the teamfight is won, its all good :).

Updates

05/07/2011 : Added Rabadon's Deathcap as 5th item. Now we have insane AD from SotO and insane AP from Rabadon's Deathcap. The Damage output is not even funny anymore.. ^^. If you do not feel comfortable getting this item now, leave it out off the build or get it as last item (RD vs GA).

Re-deleted, not safe enough. Try keep the hold on your stacks and all is good :).

I especially like the hight balance between damage (AD & AP!!) and survivability which is really important.
