INTRODUCTION

(Runes description isn't finished yet + i'll add a few pictures and descriptions)


Hi everyone! i love this ugly little champ, and decided to introduce Kog'Maw, which means for all players painful endgame carry.
For beginners, there is 3 ways to play him AD, AD&AP, AP.
In the AD build and the Hybrid build, you should be bot carry creeping a lot. These builds can be compared.
In the 3rd one, you re a caster !! no DPS

I dont like the AP build (reaaaaallly hard to play early), but it exists, and is quite good if well played (require real skill). AP kog is designed to be AP mid Caster
i find this build good.

I just included AP kog build to fully describe Kog ! i did not play AP Kog a lot, but enough to speak about it!

The full AD build is really good, i played this build a lot, and i ll try to explain it the best i can, with damages explanations.
My favorite build is the Hybrid one, but the Full AD one is the best to me.

I read good builds for Kog and bad ones. People generally think Madred's Bloodrazor is a good item for Kog, and its not if played with Phantom Dancer and Infinity Edge.
The same for Hextech Gunblade which isnt as powerful as Bloodthirster in AD build.

Kog'Maw DATA

STATS

Damage 46 (+3 / per level)
Attack speed 0.665 (+2.65% / per level)

ABILITIES


Icathian Surprise
Weird passiv ability that allow you to have kills or assistances even after death

Caustic Spittle
Strong ability for the AS, and for armor and magic penetration it gives
Use it only when facing an opponent, dont try to use it in TF, better using your HIGH range

Bio-Arcane Barrage
This is Main KogMaw ability, high range for basic attacks + damage target HP /hit
Use it to increase your range in AD build, or to make damages in hybrid and AP builds.

Void Ooze
useful slow, to escape or chase, good AP ratio

Living Artillery
Amazing ulti to end low HP players escaping

3 Different Builds

THE FULL AD BUILD :


Increase physical damage, critical chances and damages, and attack speed

CORE BUILD:



USING THE MADRED : THE HYBRID BUILD :


What does Hybrid mean? Hybrid means using AP and AD items to improve abilities effects of Kog Maw (all scaling with AP), and keep a good Physical Dmg base.
As Kog Bio-Arcane Barrage adds magical damages to your basic damages, dealing 2/3/4/5/6 % of the target maximum health, it's really interesting to improve this ability using the Madred 's Bloodrazor. This item was designed for Kog'Maw!!
if you bought a Madred's Bloodrazor, you will be able to damage 10% HP per hit after level 9.
you will need attack speed (AS) and magic penetration to improve the effect.

CORE BUILD:



THE AP BUILD (SKILL NEEDED) :


Using the Abilities AP ratios!
Your stuff should be similar to High AP caster, you need really high amount of AP.

Masteries and Runes

For each build : Full AD / Hybrid / AP Caster


FULL AD BUILD


Classic Carry AD Masteries Tree
all points in physical damages + crit damages
+3% Life steal
and the great 10% armor pen + 6 pts armor pen

9 pts in Defensive Tree to get armor and HP, everything you need (you are really squishy)
1 pts in Summoner's Resolve to improve Heal
I dont think its interesting to put points in Mana Regen, you wont have to spam abilities


RUNES





HYBRID BUILD


Original Masteries
Points in physical damages, AS + 10%armor penetration
CDR (Cooldown reduction), not really needed, but the 10%magic penetration is more than needed.
I choose to put pts in Havoc because it increases both physical and magical damages

Why 3 points in Blast ?
because Malady and Hextech Gunblade provide 95 AP
and you need 5 more AP to get 1% target HP damage with Bio-Arcane Barrage
And you wont have to buy more AP items.

Same defensive tree as Full AD masteries (same needs and goals).

AP BUILD


Classic Carry AP Masteries Tree
AP, CDR, Magic penetration...
I dont think there is much to discuss here in the Offensive Tree

The Utilitary Tree will provide Mana & Mana Regen
+ Summoner's Insight to improve Clarity and Flash
+ Runic Affinity to increase Blue buff duration.

Full AD Build

PRESENTATION



EARLY AND MID GAME :
1 or 2 Doran's Blade then Berserker's Greaves to offer your champ more movement speed (really needed, for your jungler and annemies ganks)

Then, to ensure easier farming and more laning sustainability i generally buy B. F. Sword and Vampiric Scepter
Then Zeal because kog's "W" need Attack Speed (AS), and Phantom Dancer (PD) just after.
As every AD, you need Infinity Edge (IE).

You could also buy Zeal then B. F. Sword and Phantom Dancer, but i prefer having more damages early.




END GAME ITEMS :
If things are getting well, just buy and farm your Bloodthirster.

Before that, if an AP does high amount of damages, buy Negatron Cloak.
After, you will need Banshee's Veil, because you WILL be focused. I prefer banshee to Guardian Angel on AD kog, because its easier to be well placed ("W" range) in TF with Kog, and banshee allows you to avoid the first cc, and brings you HP.
(If an AD does more damages to the team, maybe go for Guardian Angel)

If there is really too much CC, just buy Mercury's Treads and sell the berserkers.

I generally finish with another PD (to get the 85% crit chance and the supplementary Mov speed).



If the game continue i sell the boots for another PD:



SPEED = (Base Movement Speed + Flat Movement Bonuses) × (1 + Percentage Movement Bonuses) × Slow Ratio

Movement speed with boots = 375 x 1.24 = 465
Movement speed with 3 PD = 305 x 1.36 = 415 (still faster than most other champions in game ^^)
you are at 2.492 AS
and 100% crit chances

Dont dream, it was on a 70mn game !! that build is awfully expensive !!



QUESTIONS ABOUT THE BUILD



Why no armor penetration item ?


because you are doing magic damages too : 6%HP per hit, and PH gives you the needed AS for your "W".

Kog Base AS = 0.665
Kog AS per lvl = 2.65%
AS from "Q" = 30%
AS from masteries = 4%
AS from runes = 5,7%
from this build (including Berserkers) = 135%

AS = AS(base) x (1 + (bonus %AS) )
AS (lvl 18) = 0.665 x (1+ (2.65% x 17+ 30% + 9,7% + 135%))
= 0.665 x (1+ (219.75%))
= 0.665 x (3.1975)
= 2.126

Now imagine you do not do AD damages but only with your "W" magics damages.
You must hit 16,7 times (dealing 6%HP of target) to kill the target, with this AS you do it in 8 sec which is the ability duration.
You theorically kill any champ in 8 sec only with AS and ur Bio-arcane Barrage.

In conclusion, buy Last Whisper only if targets (i mean more than one target) have really high armors. Never forget you shouldnt be focusing the targets with highest armor.




Why no Madred?

Unless your facing a real high HP target, its far more useful to buy another PH and get 30% more crit chance to benefit from IE, and 15% more AS.

Look :
without any armor penetration considerations (you have the 10% armor penetration and no magic penetration, and you should actually have more armor penetration than magic pen)

Dmg = 43 + 3.5 x 17 + 18 + 80 + 60 (no stack on bloodthirster)
= 260

with
with that 85% crit chance, you do :
[ "damages" x (1+"crit chance") ] x (1 + "critical bonus")
= (260 x 1.85) x 1.60
= 770

you do 770 damages per hit
and 770 x AS (2.126) = 1637 dmg/sec


with
at 55% crit chances, and with the Madred (+40 dmg) you do 744 AD damages (300 x 1.55 x 1.60) + Madred magic damages

you deal (744 + Madred Damages) x AS damages per sec
with Madred your AS is :
0.665 x (1+ (2.65% x 17+ 30% + 9.7% + 120%)
= 0.665 x 3.0475
= 2.027

So you do (744 + Madred Dmg) x 2.027 dmg/sec
To be useful, the madred (4% target HP magic damages) must deal more than :
(744 + Madred Dmg) x 2.0277 > 1637
Madred Dmg > 1637/2.027 - 744
Madred Dmg > 64

which means the target must have 64 x25 = 1600 HP at least
==> Madred should be a bit more useful



Now do the same calculs with all stacks on bloodthirster, Madred has no more effects than PH:
300 x 1.85 x 1.6 = 888
x 2.126 = 1888 dmg/sec

340 x 1.55 x 1.6 = 843
x 2.027 = 1709 dmg/sec

madred useful if:
mad dmg > 1888 / 2.027 - 843
> 88
This means if target has more than (88 x 25 HP ) 2200 HP

On the ennemy carry, the Madred has the same effect than the PD, on Off and Tanks, it has more effects, but consider the Madred price (you would be stronger quicker with another PD), and the movement speed buff from Phantom Dancer...
You know realize that Madred has no place in the full AD build ^^

= 43 + 3,5 x 17 + 18 + 100 + 80 ==> 300
AS :
items = berserkers + 2 Phantom Dancers
= + 135%
AS (lvl 18) = 0.665 x (1+ (2.65% x 17+ 30% + 9.7% + 135%))
= 0.665 x (1+ (219.75%))
= 0.665 x (3.1405)
= 2.126
Crit chance :
items = 2 Phantom Dancers + IE
= + 85%
Crit dmg :
= + 60 %
Life Steal :
= + 23 %

Dmg /hit =
[Dmg x (1 + Crit chance)] x (1 + Crit Dmg) + 6%HP Dmg
[300 x (1 + 85%)] x (1 + 60%) + 6%HP
= 888 + 6%HP

Dmg /sec =
Dmg /hit x AS
(888 + 6%HP) x 2.126
1888 + 12.76% HP

Life recover /sec
= 1888 x 23%
= 434 HP /sec

Hybrid Build (Good Use of Madred)

PRESENTATION



I almost always begin with :
Boots + 3 x Health Potion

and i buy Berserker's Greaves + Vampiric Scepter
Your stuff is at that time fully AD.
Early AP stuff would have less effect on DPS (Malady is interesting only when you do enough magical damages, after Madred).

Then you should begin by a Bilgewater Cutlass, cheap item which will make u as strong as the ennemy AD (+ active ability = 1 more slow)

Then you need Attack Speed, Recurve Bow
then Madred's Razors and Madred's Bloodrazor

Malady is now perfect item for you, followed by Hextech Gunblade to have Spell vamp now that you deal magical damages.



Your CORE build is


it provides AD damages 80 physical dmg /hit with 15 life steal
+ 90% AS
+ 10% target HP + 20 magical dmg /hit
(you have 20% spell vamp, but you will benefit from spell vamp only with the hextech active ability and for the 6% HP damages with you W, not for Madred and Malady damages)

+95 AP you will notice that 5 AP are missing to make 1% more HP dmg with your "W" (solution in masteries 3 points in Blast ) ==> + 1% damage of target HP with Bio-Arcane Barrage



LAST ITEMS CHOICE



I generally buy survibility item:
- Banshee's Veil

- Guardian Angel


Then you will need more AS so:
2 items are good on Kog to finish this build

- Ionic Spark for AS and HP

- Wit's End to increase AS and get magic resistance




ALTERNATIVE ITEMS


I dont like this item on Kog, Malady 's AS better

if they are more magic resistance needed, replace Ionic Spark by this

dont really understand this item on Kog, CDR isnt really what you aim for

You actually should choose between crits (full AD) and Hybrid, using this item in Hybrid is a mistake, too expensive, and you dont have critical damages, so ...

= 25% + 40% + 50% + 50%
= 165%
AS (lvl 11) = 0.665 x (1+ (2.65% x 14+ 30% + 9.7% + 165%))
= 0.665 x (1 + 241.8%)
= 0.665 x 3,418
= 2.273
Life Steal :
= + 15 %
AP :
= 25 + 70 + 0.75 x 18
= 108.5
Spell Vamp :
= + 20%

Physical Dmg + 11%HP Dmg (Madred + W) + 48 magic dmg
192 + 11%HP + 48
= 240 + 11%HP

(240 + 11%HP) x 2.273

192 x 2.273 x 15% = 65 HP /sec (LIFE STEAL)

AD Build vs Hybrid Build

The build changes after vampiric scepter
for the B. F. Sword price (+1645)
buy Bilgewater Cutlass (+1375)
Builds have almost the same effects
- AD early build has +10 damages
- Hybrid early build has +5 Life steal and is cheaper


I advise to take Madred's Bloodrazor now in the hybrid build. Its very expensive... but as expensive as Infinity Edge
You need 3800 golds.

Crit Dmg make the AD build a bit stronger.


After Malady + Hextech Gunblade for a total of 10170 Golds



At this time AD has (10170 Golds too)



Lets compare builds efficiency :

Kog bases stats:
AD = 43 (3 /lvl)
AS = 0.665 (2,65 /lvl)

Lets estimate your lvl 15
==> Your Bio-Arcane Barrage & Caustic Spittle are level 5 (Basic attacks deals 6% target max health magic damages + 30% AS Bonus)



AD Build:
runes and masteries ==> +18 flat dmg + 3 Life steal + 0.5 Dmg/level + 10 crit damages

damages :
items = Doran's Blade + IE + B.F. Sword
==> Base + dmg/ lvl + runes & masteries + items
= 43 + 3,5 x 14 + 18 + (10 + 80 + 45) ==> 245
AS :
items = berserkers + Phantom Dancer
= + 80%
AS (lvl 11) = 0.665 x (1+ (2.65% x 14+ 30% + 9.7% + 80%))
= 0.665 x (1 + 156.8%)
= 0.665 x 2,568
= 1.708
Crit chance :
items = Phantom Dancer + IE
= + 55%
Crit dmg :
= + 60 %
Life Steal :
= + 16 %

Dmg /hit =
[Dmg x (1 + Crit chance)] x (1 + Crit Dmg) + 6%HP Dmg
[245 x (1 + 55%)] x (1 + 60%)
= 608 + 6%

Dmg /sec =
Dmg /hit x AS
(608 + 6%HP) x 1.708
1038 + 10.2% HP

Life recover /sec
= 1038 x 16%
= 166 HP /sec

= 25 + 70 + 0.5 x 11

Physical Dmg + 11%HP Dmg (Madred + W) + 20 magic dmg (Malady)
183 + 11%HP + 20
= 203 + 11%HP

(203 + 11%HP) x 1.940
394 + 21.3% HP

Life recover / sec = life steal (on physical dmg) + Spell vamp (on abilities)
183 x 1.94 x 15% = 53 HP /sec (LIFE STEAL)
7%HP x 1.94 x 20% = 2.7%(target max HP) HP /sec (SPELL VAMP)



Full AD deals 1038 + 10.2% HP /sec
Hybrid deals 394 + 21.3% HP /sec


At this level you have :
440 (base) + [90 (HP/Level : base + masteries) x 14] + 30 (mastery) + 100 (Doran blade) = 1830 HP

If you focus a target with the same HP max
Full AD deals 1038 + 187 = 1225 dmg /sec
Hybrid deals 394 + 390 = 784 dmg /sec

If you focus a target with 3000 HP
Full AD deals 724 + 306 = 1030 dmg /sec
Hybrid deals 362 + 639 = 1001 dmg /sec

No twisted logic here, against low pv targets, your damages are below the AD build, and almost the same for high PV targets.
The Hybrid "Life Steal" (life steal + Spell Vamp) is higher than Full AD, but the AD hasn't bought his Bloodthirster yet.


With the whole stuff, Hybrid Build is strong, weaker than AD one (at full stuff), yet cheaper, but if there is High HP targets, its a real interesting option !!!
WE CAN'T SAY AD STUFF IS BETTER THAN HYBRID ONE !!
Hybrid Stuff is less interesting at late game, because items are cheaper and then less powerful (you get them before, but you get full stuff before too, so there is a cap from you can't improve damages). Furthermore, AD can sell boots and get 3
Phantom Dancer to be AWESOME !!

BUILD :

Mana at level 18 :
1015 Mana base
+ 400 x 3 + 1000 + 725 from items
200 with masteries

4140 mana at lvl 18

AP at level 18 :
355 AP Base items
(140 + 80 + 45 x 3)

28 AP from Runes and masteries

+9% Mana = +373 AP

=728 AP
+ bonus from Rabadon and masteries
==> +35% = 983 AP
Its one of the highest AP we can have ( Veigar is an exception)

W attacks will deal 6 + 9 % HP damages to targets ==> 15%
and your spells will ravage the ennemies !!!


Why this build?


This build is easy to understand, Living Artillery has even more range than Arcane Barrage (Xerath is easier to play)
and can be spamed a lot with your 4140 mana pool

so you can afford to stay far away ^^

= (160 + 328) x 225%
= 1098
