I have been playing fiddlesticks more recently and noticed that he can be a quite effective laning champion. He provides excellent crowd control and also provides an effective way to shutdown top lane. It also keeps the jungle open for a stronger champion, such as WW or Wukong.

Conservatively use your E in order to poke down the enemy champion. I like to hit them with dark wind first and then allow it to bounce to the minions. This guarantees poke and also helps clear the minion wave. The best time to do this is when the champion is in the back at the caster minions. That way it will bring the minions low enough for you to last hit them with your auto attack.

Once you get your ultimate, use it to surprise the enemy champions. Poke them down enough and let your wave push. You should be ahead in farm anyway, so hide in a bush along the top lane edge and let the enemy push the wave back. Channel your ultimate and land it right on them. Fear them with your Q, silence with your E, and then finish them off with your W. This is a guaranteed kill combo. Once you have taken their tower roam mid lane and throw a surprise party for the enemy midlaner.

This is where you are most useful. You can solo baron and nuke an entire enemy team. The combo of liandry's, rylai's and your passive allow you to absolutely shred anybody.
