Introduction

Hello, my name is Cheapkill I am a mid tier player ranking gold 3 by the end of season 3. This is one of my first guides so any "Constructive criticism" is appreciated.

Any how let's get into it today I will be showing you how I play Lulu in the pre-season 4 patch.

[REWORKED: Wednesday, December 04, 2013.]
NOTE: Both builds are pretty similar with only a few changes.

Pros / Cons

Pros

+ Good peels
+ Good poke
+ Good Kit
+ Aggressive/Defensive
Lulu is a high poke, mobile support which has a bit of everything. Doesn't excel only in offense, but also in defense. Sort of all-around good pick

Cons

- Mana heavy
- Squishy
- Lacks sustain
- high cool-downs
Lulu is a squishy champion easily nuked down, she requires a-lot of mana early lacks natural sustain and has high cool-downs on her spells

Passive-Tank Runes

Greater Mark of Armor I like taking the extra armor with my tank Lulu build, it allows me to absorb more damage mainly early game. As late game the little bit of armor it provides falls off. So make the most of it when in lane.

Greater Seal of Armor These are really basic choices for any support. Seals of armor is really important and the best choice over any other rune. You will need it to handle poking and damage in laning phase specially. Which make these my main choice for seal runes.

Greater Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist So, we get back to the question of resistances over mana regeneration. Once again I highly recommend the resistances over mana regeneration, but if you want to, take the regeneration from glyphs. Also it's the matter of preference whether you want scaling resist or flat.

Greater Quintessence of Health Lulu has tons of choices, but I prefer something that gives you defense. You can really play around with the Quintessences. You can mix Gold/Armor or Gold/Health for example. I prefer the 3 health quints.

Passive-Tank Items

Twin Shadows
Summons two ghost to seek the two closest enemies.
Provides good AP/MR for a good price, the active is great for catching people out.

Zhonya's Hourglass
Active: for 2.5 seconds rendering invulnerable and untargetable.
The extra armor helps if you're against some AD damage an the active is great for absorbing the front of the enemies burst damage.

Ruby Sightstone
Consumes a charge to place a stealth ward for 3 minutes.
This is your core item, you need to get it first and if you don't second at the latest.

Rylai's Crystal Scepter
Your spell damage will slow the enemies movement speed by 35%.
The passive is great the slow makes it much easier to catch people or to get away, the health helps a lot as well.

Abyssal Mask
Reduces the magic resist of nearby enemies by 20.
Decent AP has some nice MR which helps a lot and the aura is great to give you some extra damage by lowering there MR.

Frozen Heart
Reduce the attack speed of nearby enemies by 20%.
Lots of armor/mana the CDR helps a-lot and the passive helps so much in team fights.

Talisman of Ascension Talisman of Ascension
+20% Cooldown Reduction +10 HR per 5 seconds +15 MR per 5 seconds
is great for Lulu early game since she has bad sustain it helps keeping your health and mana up.

Locket of the Iron Solari
Shield you and nearby allies for 50 + (10 per level).
What can I say about the locket people have been buying it for ages. Normally you want the jungler to buy it but it's solo que that doesn't happen often.

Alright Boot time, Boots of Swiftness for high mobile enemies. Ninja Tabi for high AD. Mercury's Treads for high magic damage. Ionian Boots of Lucidity provides you with great cooldown.

Passive-Tank Skill Sequence

Pix, Faerie Companion: Lulu's passive is Pix, her faerie that accompanies her around. When she auto attacks, Pix will also attack and do additional magic damage. The hits can be blocked by other units if they get in the way, and Pix won't damage towers. You can attach Pix to allies using Help, Pix!, and he will attack whenever your ally attacks.

Glitterlance: Both Lulu and Pix shoot out a thin, linear AoE magic bolt. The targeting is based on how you move your mouse. Basically, the two bolts will try to aim for where your mouse cursor is. Even if you hit a target with both magic bolts from Lulu and Pix, the target will only be damaged once. The slow can affect the target both times though.MAX SECOND

Whimsy: You can stop Smite and damage dealt for several seconds. It also slows down the target, it's not that good for laning phase, because ADC's don't do that much early damage and the slow is not that great. It can be used on yourself or teammate to give movement speed which is good for kiting/chasing.MAX FOURTH

Help, Pix: is Lulu's other ability that yields different results on enemies and allies. You can use it on enemy minions, not just champions. It moves Pix to whoever you cast it on which also changes his Glitterlance range. Combining them together can give Glitterlance a range of 1500+.MAX FIRST

Wild Growth: One of my favorite ultimate's among the supports. Gives really good health bonus, it's also great for initiations as if you use it on a tank in the middle of the team-fight. So it knocks everyone up and keeps the slow there. MAX THIRD

Passive-Tank Summoner Spells

Flash
Teleports your champion to your cursor's location.
is a must it's great if you get caught out of position, or to follow people over walls to kill them.

Exhaust
Reduces their MS attack/ability/item damage by 30% and attack speed by 50%.
an amazing spell, can help peel for your carry, reduce the damage of the enemy team in team-fights and to catch someone.

Heal
Restores 100-355 health depending on your level.
Not as common, you don't see heal often but it's still decent. I would still take Exhaust over it though.

Passive-Tank Summary

Aggressive-Damage Runes

Greater Mark of Magic Penetration The closer to middle, the more viable the rune is obviously. I prefer some kind of damage to increase Lulu's poke and damage which is really important early game. I don't prefer to play defensively unless I'm in very un-favored lane.

Greater Seal of Armor These are really basic choices for any support. Seals of armor is really important and the best choice over any other rune. You will need it to handle poking and damage in laning phase specially. Which make these my main choice for seal runes.

Greater Glyph of Magic Resist So, we get back to the question of resistances over mana regeneration. Once again I highly recommend the resistances over mana regeneration, but if you want to, take the regeneration from glyphs. Also it's the matter of preference whether you want scaling resist or flat.

Greater Quintessence of Ability Power Provides you with extra damage to give you that more effective early game poke, cause with the new patch Lulu's Glitterlance no has a AP scaling for slow percentage.

Morellonomicon
Dealing magic damage to a champion below 40% health inflicts grievous wounds.
The ability power is great along with 20% CDR allowing for more poking with Glitterlance

Rylai's Crystal Scepter
Your spell damage will slow the enemies movement speed by 35%.
The passive is great the slow makes it much easier to catch people or to get away the health helps a lot as well.

Reduces the magic resist of nearby enemies by 20.
Decent AP has some nice MR which helps a lot and the aura is great to give you some extra damage by lowering there MR.

Liandry's Torment
+15 magic penetration, dealing spell damage burns enemies for 6% current health.
The burn from the passive adds a lot of damage the extra penetration combines well with the other build items.

Will of the Ancients
+20% spell vamp.
Not to expensive, the spell vamp is nice provides some sustain and the extra CDR is great.

Banner of Command
Transforms a nearby siege minion to a more powerful unit.
This is more of an underrated item which is sad. It provides tons of AP great CDR and the passive and active is amazing for pushing.

Alright Boot time, Boots of Swiftness for high mobile enemies. Ionian Boots of Lucidity provides you with great cool-down. Sorcerer's Shoes great to get to do extra damage with its magic penetration.

Flash
Teleports your champion to your cursor's location.
is a must it's great if you get caught out of position, or to follow people over walls to kill them.

Ignite
Ignite the enemy for 70-410 true damage.
is a great choice for offensive supports the extra damage is nice and can help secure kills.

Barrier
Shields your champion for 95 + (25 per level).
I would use Ignite over it but it's still a great spell it provides more of a passive aggressive style.
