Not Updated For Current Season
Hi and welcome to my guide where i shall present to you a great way to play lux, me myself have played her for a while and i really enjoy her skill set. During this guide i will've helped you to get some pointers on how to become a better lux and how to do so step by step!
Lux is a mid champion who has great zone control under her lane, and can put a lot off pressure unto you, she is known for her low CD abilities and can shoot off her ultimate that deals a lot of damage each 30 seconds.
If you're not that familiar with Lux and what she's all about, you will be in the end of this guide.
Hope you enjoy!
Pro's / Con's
Let's see what Lux excels at and what she's weak at;
* Easy to zone enemy laner
* 2 spells to give vision
* Short CD on ult
* Good shield
* Insane burst damage
* Skill shot
* Long Cooldowns unless building it.
* Mana hungry
* a bit weaker late game then early-mid.
x9 Greater Glyph of Magic Resist
x9 Greater Mark of Magic Penetration
x9 Greater Seal of Mana Regeneration
x3 Greater Quintessence of Ability Power
These are the runes i've chosen and find best for a standard mid rune page, agaisnt an enemy ap laner. Ofcourse the seals can be switched out for armor seals.
Why i picked the mana regen seals over armor is beacause the extra mana regen i can get in lane helps me get that little more spam that i want to zone people out of lane.
For a AD matchup against mid i highly recommend switching the regen seals for armor clearly.
For Masteries I've chosen 21/0/9
I prefer the Utility tree over defense tree for my AP mana user champs, because of all the extra mana and mana regen you can get.
This is why i prefer the utility tree over defense tree for my AP mana users;
Wanderer : Put 1 point into this for the movement speed, i mean 0,66% isn't much, you could perhaps also put the point into Summoner's Insight for the lower cd on Flashand Teleport.
Meditation : 3 points in here for the +3 mana regen pr 5 sec. Which is great in the long runs, you do want to keep your mana up to spam those spells, wouldn't recommend switching out point here.
Mastermind : 1 point into this for the 4% CDR, and we all know how much CDR means for Lux.
Expanded Mind : 3 poiint in here for the 180 mana at lvl 18 giving you 10 mana each level, not that much of mana really, but helps out in the early phase.
Runic Affinity : This one here should be pretty self explainatory, you get longer buffs, such as blue and baron buffs, which is great all game.
You can switch out the utility points for Defense points as you please, and i would recommend it if facing enemy AD laner.
Another way of maxing yor skills, put some early 2 points into your Lucent Singularity for some early damage, much alike you do with Olaf and his Reckless Swing.
When you perform your skills on a enemy player , you wanna smartcast Light Binding and quickly after cast Lucent Singularity, you do not procc it at once, you want to put in AA's for your passive Illumination to procc between your Q and E ability. Okey, so back to the fight, when you've landed your Q and E on your enemy you then cast Final Spark AA, reactivate E and AA. And your target should be dead, this performance take's a lot of time to master, and even hit properly.
Taking Ignite on Lux gives her some extra damage during the laning phase, due to her aoe skills and zoning skills the true damage from Ignite can help secure a kill
You take flash simply because it's one of the strongest summoner spells, you can easily escape with it and enter a fight. Taking Flash over Ghost On Lux is beacause you want the mincious blink instead of the increased prolonged mobility, a squishy target as her wouldnt want an increasing mobility, you rather want to get out of there ASAP, and flash gives you that.
Restores 40% of your mana and to your allies around you, great spell aswell, but compared to what you can achieve with Teleport and Ignite, i wouldn't recommend this Spell, you will also start reciving blue buffs from the jungler around 7 min, so stay rather patience with your spamming.
Gives vision on a small area for a small duration, great spell aswell, but i rather like using this spell on Nidalee or a support for keeping track on enemy buffs. Also, both your E and R grants vision, so i don't really see why you would have this spell.
Removes all disabling spells on you, another great spell made by Riot, but then again your'a AP mid champ, and are probably building Zhonya's Hourglass So this spell just isn't ment for us.
In this section i will introduce to you why i've choosen these items for Lux, and other alternatives you can go with your Lux, pro's and con's of the items. All in all, a better understand of the items for Lux.
Sorcerer's Shoes: Pretty normal feets to buy as an AP carry, gives good magic penetration, wouldn't recommend buying any other feets then these.
Chalice of Harmony: Great item for to start at if against ap mid, gives you some magic resist and mana regen, also builds up for Athene's Unholy Grail and this item is something you want.
Seeker's Armguard: Gives you some AP and armor, great item to start with if against AD, also has a scaling ap and armor when killing minions/Champion. also builds up for a Zhonya's Hourglass. You want this item as much as the Chalice but not something you're rushing if not facing AD mid.
Void Staff: When you get to a certain point in the game, when the enemy Malphite is building MR, you want this item, gives great amount of Ability Power and a fair amount of Magic penetration, just to get that damage you want on those silly tanks trying to counter your damage.
Lich Bane: This will be your 6th item, a great item for Lux, has great synergy with her passive Illumination as of both your passive and Lich bane passive gives extra magical damage on auto attack on hit. I can't see any other items that you would use on her instead of this, but you can switch this item for the Morellonomicon so you get max CDR.
Athene's Unholy Grail: You want this item, because of all the stats it gives, Mr, ap and cdr. all of these are great stats for Lux, and should be bought under any circumstances.
Rabadon's Deathcap: A great item for Lux and any other ap carries, Gives a lot of AP, and another 30% of your current AP. this item is a must on Lux and all other AP carries, do not ever never get another item instead of this, unless your going Galio Who is a semi Ap carry tank.
Zhonya's Hourglass: This item is one of the best items on a squishy AP carry, makes you untragetable for 2,5 seconds, and if you do got any DoTs (Damage over time) on you, and is fatal, you can use this item to prevent yourself from dying. This has saved a lot of lives on the summoner's rift. This item is a must have on your Lux.
Lux's abilties are all AoE (area of effect) and work's great with champions with AoE Lockdown, such as Amumu's Curse of the Sad Mummy or Malphite's Unstoppable Force, thanks to their ult's , makes our Luc's abilties shine and hit a lot of targets in one time use of a spell, once they such champion as these two engages and lock the enemy team down, you want to go crazy on your spells, and dish out a ton of damage on all enemy players.
Here's a video of great synergy with Luc's abilties:
Lux's Final Spark is a great spell to use to steal buff's such as the
, it deals a good amount of damage and can be cast from a 3000 yard range. so compared to other champs such as Draven and Ezreal Lux is the safest champion to steal buffs with.*
Ofcourse as any other techniques it's hard to master, but with practice you will be stealing buffs like madman!
Lux's apperance in teamfight's are really important, the burst you deal with all your spells can kill a apc and adc, and thats really important. Secondly before this even to go successfully you want to be positioned where you wont be easily caught/engaged at, Lux's abilties got a huge CD compared to other ap carries, and her only defensive spell is Light Binding. So when you've done your combo, and you see people running for you, a ] Zac is using Elastic Slingshot; you do wnat your team to be with you, communicaiton is really important for Lux, due to her long CD's on her spells, and after a fight, you do NOT want to get engaged.
Where you should position yourself is pretty easy to understand, you want to be out of range for the enemy jungle/top to engage you, give it some training, and you will master this. Lux can easily carry a game for her insane burst damage.
